That thing in the trailer is sweet I must say. Now I really want to play an Imperial Force user. OOOOOOOOO I hope I get the Cathar sword from the Hypercrate right now!

I think its horrible, theres a reason why the cross guard wasnt bladed, the only person likely to be injured by the "new bits" is the wielder themselves.

It's just as practical as any lightsaber, considering without a cross guard the user is likely to lose fingers if not their hand in an actual melee.

But then again, I always laugh at people who will accept all the other light weapons that exist in star wars, including the rather stupid lightwhip, but now a cross guard is going too far and they try to claim it will injure the user first? Like the use of a lightsaber by itself wouldn't cause bodily harm to begin with? I am just shocked that sword design 101 was considered for this new lightsaber.

As seen in the new Star Wars movie trailer, I specifically have this in mind:

Dual wielding this on my marauder = awesomesauce.

Please add to game ASAP Bioware

Actually that is ok i guess but the Lightsaber Baton is more menacing then that cross saber http://level7.nu/media/modules/articleimages/LVL/2007/02/15/08/93315520070214screen004.jpg

Be great for Dual Wielding Marauder/Sentinel class...

Actually, I've always considered most of the "rule of cool" sabers, from the whip to Maul's staff, to be both silly, and best suited for those determined to kill themselves.

You did notice the beams coming from the sides, right?

Neither lightsaber you linked to has that and that's what's being discussed.

Yes, I'm fully aware that this thread is a discussion regarding the metal portion of the lightsaber hilt that has a metal crossguard similar to the two lightsabers I linked.

Only a fool mortal would injure themselves with weapons such as the cross sabre and the other sabre type weapons mentioned here. The people wielding these weapons are force users......huge difference.

Excuses, excuses.

Every bit of concentration and "force power" used to prevent killing yourself with a daft weapon is a bit not used against your opponent.

These weapons are featured not because they're more effective, or more deadly, or anything practical -- they exist for one reason and one reason only, to look "cool" and get gasps and cheers out of the ignorant.

Indeed -- it's the lethal bits sticking out of the crossguard that make the saber in the trailer daft.

There are reasons that real swords didn't have blades sticking out of the crossguards like that.

Wow, haters gonna hate.....and not just you but everybody who has a problem with variety.

So what your saying is that anybody that watches a movie and witnesses anything shiny and flashy....and are impressed by it, are ignorant.

Hmmm, i dont think i would ever want to accompany you to any movie....or anywhere in that matter....you would just nick pick everything to death.

Please do! That way my Jedi won't have to cut anyone's hands off. All those goofy Sith will do it themselves...
