Can a Dev Explain Why PvP Was Left Out of the Expansion?

I'm just curious as to why PvP is being completely left out of the first major expansion in a year and a half? What was the logic behind this decision?

I would not think it would be the development of new modes of play being that players have overwhelmingly expressed for going on 3 years that re-skins of the same game modes in new areas would be as, if not more, welcome. It certainly seems that a re-skin of an existing game mode a few times a year would be manageable if several new FP's are manageable. And a few re-skins would add tremendously to the experience and decrease repetition that plagues warzones.

I fail to see how disciplines isn't a major PvP thing. Particularly since most of the utility skills seemed aimed at PvP.

Besides I have no idea what people mean by PvP "content" the content is our opponents. Everything else is just scenery.

Trying to pawn off necessary combat changes as content is laughable. If you said the same thing to pve'ers, there would be no end to the wailing and gnashing of teeth. The unsub threads would take over the forums. I don't thing asking for a couple of new maps is asking too much, if only for a change of scenery.

Only if I get a randomly generated maze map or a true enourmous 10-leveled platform map.

And 8v8 arenas, because it is fun to deathmatch in the huttball map.

I'd settle for reskins. Those are pipe dreams. Let's start small, like a belsavis based civil war map.

Yup, if the shoe were on the other foot and we got new PVP maps and armor and the PVE crowd were told their new content was balance changes (no new ops or flashpoints) there would be riots.

...I'd prefer the focus be on class changes, balance, owPvP (Ilum </3), and new things that are more than just aesthetic changes. You know, fun stuff.

Great question. I, too, would like an answer from BW.

Finally, someone with a mind of their own that refuses to swallow Musco's swill - hook, line and sinker. +Rep

I fail to see how Disciplines are anything other than indirectly related to PvP by virtue of being part of character builds. The revamp is more for PvErs than anything, both leveling and endgame.

Oddly enough, pre-Disciplines, I never once heard anyone say how much they thought Skill Trees were PvP content. Bunch of clownz grasping at straws. lol

And nothing I have seen from Disciplines so far has impressed me in the slightest. In fact, the new system has left me completely underwhelmed. The VG/PT changes are sideways garbage. Let's hope the gameplay is better than what appears on paper.

Oh sure...some of the classes are changing, but balance... L O L. Based on what I've seen so far from Disciplines, balance will be as far off as it's ever been in this game.

The disciplines could be a major thing. SO far are disappointing imo.

Eric already posted about this, check the dev tracker and you'll see what they have to say. If they wanted to say more then they would.

As to any comparison to PvE, it's always wrong. They aren't the same thing. You can change up combat all you want, but if there is no new operation, you're still killing the same boss in the same way as the mechanics haven't changed. PvE will always require new content constantly. In PvP, it's not about the actual objectives, but how you beat your opponent to capture said objectives.

Those who tow the players are our content are clearly nabs to pvp. When you've played 10+ years of pvp mmos against probably hundreds of thousands of new players it starts to mean very little. Players aren't new they all start to seem the same. The difference are the mechanics and maps. Thats why pvpers move games more often than pvers and pvp mmos have such a short life just until the next big pvp mmo.

If anything its the opposite pvpers aren't attracted by new players as most of the big pvp guilds move to new games following each other. They want the same skilled players but in different maps and with different mechanics to learn, not the next wave of nabs to farm

Are you new to this game? It takes 18+ months to get a new WZ map, OWPvP was tried and removed and balance will be a year down the road after 3.0.

I too would settle for re-skins because anything beyond that is just fantasy at this point. PvP takes place in boxes...I'd like more of them, even if they're all just re-skins with new terrain to navigate.

the discipline learning curve applies to all players of all formats except maybe space combat. I agree that it's a major adjustment for PvPers, but it's not a pvp content addition. are they dropping new "content" for pve? I would expect something new (content-wise) with any level xpac. that's just how its done as far as I'm concerned. so yeah, I don't blame ppl for complaining about that. at the very least a new sandbox (either WZ or arena)...no matter how rudimentary, would have been fine. it's not like they could do worse than queshball or ahg.
