Why NO Swtor Commercials?

Advertising is really quite expensive. That's why you will only see it done for a handful of games - especially the TV commercials. Right now, the game is financially viable, has a strong regular playerbase, and continues to grow. There is no need to spend (waste, really) money on advertising at this point when the biggest form of advertisement is approaching on the horizon (the upcoming movie in 2015).

They have no marketing.

Yeah, tv commercials are expensive, but what I don't understand is why they are not putting anything on Star Wars Facebook page, starwars.com, Insider, or even why official SW twitter is not retwitting SWTOR news. They are only advertising this game on their own channels, hoping that they potential customers will hear about it somehow. There are even no news about SWTOR content in Star Wars fansites, I saw some on Jedi News but it was all sent to them by one of the SWTOR fansites (and linked to their own articles).

Maybe it has to do with Disney and why they are not promoted on those other sites. Idk but someone there needs to try and promote in other places. If a free game like world of tanks can do it then swtor should be able to pull a few of those CM bucks out for a commercial. IJS

they stopped advertisements on TV LONG before Disney bought, I only saw TV ads a few times in December of 2011 thats it.

either way I see SWTOR pop ups and ads on many websites I go to and on youtube, as well as Twitch, it makes sense to focus more on internet advertising rather than TV since its more cost effective and you are more likely to reach the target groups on the internet. So they promote the game, but they just don't go about it using TV, since well, who is more likely to be interested in an ad for SWTOR, a guy waiting for the commercials to end so he can keep watching the Simpsons, or a guy already looking at gaming feeds on youtube or twitch or something?

so yeah there is marketing there, there are advertisements going and there is marketing

SW7 will be great advertisement, but only if they actually include some mentions of SWTOR in the hype up to and during the film. Blurbs, ads, merchandise tie-ins, etc on Disney/Lucasarts/EA sites and media in general.

Companies usually prefer to spend marketing dollars on up and coming titles so I wouldn't be surprised if TOR gets no mention.

Yes, it will be "free" advertisement. But EA would be just dump not to utilize its potential to the max, having "Seen Ep 7? Continue living in SW world in TOR!" cross-promotion on SW official website, social network channels and stuff.

As others have said, most people don't seem to understand that TV advertising is incredibly expensive when you're trying to reach a national-level audience.

Sure, you could buy time on one station in one market relatively cheaply (depending on when the commercial airs) but there are 210 television markets in the US, most of which are served by the 4 major networks.

So assuming you ran ONE 30 second commercial on each one of those stations ONCE for $100, that would cost you $84,000 just to have your commercial seen a single time on the station.

That doesn't get your commercial run on every station in the market, only the network affiliates.

And that $100 may get you a slot in prime time in market 210, but it'll be running at 3am in the large markets.

Also, remember that it's only running once and relatively few people will see it.

It also doesn't get you seen on cable networks or anywhere else.

So for the sake of argument, let's say that they spent $100,000 on running TV commercials.

That, in turn, brings in about $50,000 worth of new subscribers.

Any bean counter will tell you that's a foolish way to use your advertising budget.

You have to spend money to make money. That $50,000 worth of subscribers will increase as the buy cartel market items and more game time.

Besides, it's not like EA can't afford it (especially with all the mickle and diming they do).

Having a TV commercial and/or a full-blown cinematic trailer would be the only way to really get the "game is dead" people to shut their yaps.

I would love to see something new for that reason since the cinematics we do have are breathtaking I just want more.

I don't think we need TV commercials, but maybe some advertising on the internet could be nice. Though there already is some, without the cinematics.

I almost think it's been long enough that they could use the three movies (The game intro video, the Imperial one, and the Republic one) and use them once again as adverts if they don't want to make new ones.

I saw an advert for WOW's new x-pack when I went to go watch Interstellar tonight. I also saw an advert for the new Halo movie as well as Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth game. SWTOR could put an advertisement before the new Star Wars movie when it gets released and it could have a HUGE impact and a HUGE reach across the world. Im sure EA and Disney can work out a deal to lower the cost of advertising as it would help both overall.

No, you're asking them to spend money to lose money.

If they spend $100,000 to make $50,000, that's a stupid way of doing business.

It's got nothing to do with what they "could" make down the road maybe possibly someday.

Advertising works on a formula: If I put my ad in front of X number of people, I can expect Y% of them to spend money and bring me $Z revenue.

Their formulas would take into account subscriber money as well as an average cartel coin buy and that is where the arbitrary $50,000 number comes from.

My example is an over-simplification but that's essentially how it works.

That's why television buys on this scale for this type of product don't happen.

During pre and early launch, they've got an advertising budget to burn through but with an established and aging product, that money is much better spent on things like web advertising and marketing emails where you might be able to make $10,000 by spending $5,000.

they're advertising on the internet, (and clearly advertising pretty heavy, I see their ads everywhere) which is more bang for their buck efficant. after all, it's not people with TVs who play MMOs, it's people with the INTERNET.

TV ads are an expensive waste, and don't reach audiances very reliably (I've seen warlords of Draenor commericals on the internet. I've NEVER seen a TV ad for WOW)

You may be seeing them because websites like google like to keep track of your online interests using cookies. Occasionally clearing out the cookies that aren't storing your passwords and the like that you don't want to log out from will result in you seeing a wide range of ads.

Example: A month ago, I got nothing but MMO ads for different MMOs. Right now, because over Tue last month I narrowed down my choice laptops for my upgrade down to twelve and researching them constantly, I get nothing but computer ads.

Hope, Decieved, and Return are incredible; I still rewatch them from time to time and they still give me goosebumps. I'd be willing to shell out 50 CC for a new one. Hear that Bioware??? Take my 50 CC and make me a new trailer!

Joking aside, I'd love to see Blur create a movie using their animation prowess; with a decent backstory and cool characters it would be incredible. I doubt it will happen, but a fan can dream.

And sometimes those dreams come true. I remember as a kid I was a huge X Men comic fan, and also watched Star Trek the Next Generation. I fantasized that Cpt. Picard would be the perfect fit for Xavier. Years later, lo and behold, it happened :)

Considering that the numbers I've heard for Blur Studios animations is around 1 million dollars per minute, I'd say you'll have to shell out more than a measly 50 CC to get them to do one...

Think I've seen some Diablo ads. That's been around for a while...

Would that be Diablo 1,2 or 3?

Because while D3 is from 2012, you have to keep in mind that it was also released for xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013 and Xbox One and PS4 in 2014, both launches getting new ads running.

Now, try again and name one game from late 2011/early 2012 that still has ads running for it.

I did wonder why they do not advertise too, there is nothing anywhere even on internet.

We see SWTOR ads on line only because we visit sites like this if you take PC on IP which never have visited any SWTOR web sides you will not see even one add. So all internet ads are hiting people who already know about this game.

We have expansion coming out and there is not even one article or even mention on any PC game web side.

This game have very poor exposure and when I mention to someone SW game they have no idea what I’m talking about you mention WoW and even non gamer person know about it.

They should have some advertising it would bring more people to game at list some ads every time something big its coming like 3.0.

This game make on average 120 mil a year profit, how much more would make if people know about this game and played.
