the strongest point of swtor

I just felt like making this thread because I realized what I reaally enjoy the most about swtor. It`s not the stories themselves which are definitely good (well Agent, Knight and Warrior that is) but it´s rather the story crossovers which are one of the best things about the game.

Where with an imp char you kill an NPC who helped your rep char on another storyline. The same goes for companions and there is actually a huge complexity in the crossovers of the planet storylines with the class stories on some later planets like Corellia.

That is a huge plus of this game. That and the animations of most abilities.

Some of the class stories are better than others, but they all share in common the qualities of cohesive storytelling, good writing and top notch voice acting. You also get the sense that the majority of writers and voice actors were really enjoying their work.

Then it all goes out the window at 50, sadly.

I wonder if the recent 12x xps promotion might be a bit of an own goal. It seems to have been a popular promo, which is a good thing. But it also shines a spotlight on the fact that the stories are one of the best aspects of the game and something that has been totally diluted in post 50 content. And yes I know there's a story for each class in 3.0, but it's just one mission and the 'testing the water' statements Bioware have made seem mostly to be a stalling / placating measure. Time will tell of course, but I'm not holding my breath for a return of major class story arcs.

For me...and I know this is odd....its the sound.

Hands down this has to be the best sound effects I have ever heard in an MMO, and even some of the best in gaming.

I would say that the combat animations (at least before some of the silly changes, like the overload nerf and putting the trigger at the beginning of the animation instead of the end) are also top notch, especially the variety of death animations.

I have to agree. The individual stories are great, but having 8(!) of them all interwoven in the same world...that's what really makes this game like nothing else.

Come to think of it, I should add: That's why, even as a solo, story-focused player, I'd rather have this game than KotOR 3-10. Those would have been a single story, then another single story...where this game is something unprecedented.

Well, maybe a bit precedented by DA:O's origin stories.

It's the class stories.

Well....the true thing which seperated class stories from the normal faction stories were the companion talking in cutscenes. The class stories are good but unfortunately most of them sucked. The only really good ones are Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior and Agent. The other are only slightly above the planetary storylines. Class stories like Trooper, Inquisitor or Counsular are just slightly above average.

Yeah, I love the way the stories all tie together and we see characters in more than one story. It really makes it feel like a larger world with things going on beyond your character. And there are lovely moments of recognition when you encounter characters again or when stories intersect.

The sound and music are among the best I've heard and while I think the animations and effects were actually quite a bit better at launch than they are now, they still add a great deal to what I consider to be some of the most visceral combat I've encountered. They just made some unfortunate effects and went much too far with 'bigger is better.'
