Shockstrike: why would i ever want to do this?

New Vanguard ability in 3.0, it reads

Now lets think about this.

First off it has the same issues shockstrike has. Generally speaking hitting a opponent with the butt of your gun hasn't been a effective strategy ever since they stopped making rifles out of dense wood. Not to mention unless I have to reload after every shot, I wouldn't want to be hitting people with my gun butt considering its usually faster to just shoot the guy than it is to flip my rifle around, then hit the guy, and then flip it back around.

Secondly, the whole energizing part. Specifically the fact that I'm electrifying the rifle butt, which happens to be the part of the gun that is usually tucked into my shoulder. Obviously it would have a toggle, but if I had the ability to electrify a part of my rifle in order to make it a effective melee weapon, wouldn't it make more sense to electrify the business end of the rifle? You know the part of the rifle that I am probably already pointing in their general direction anyway?

Oh and heaven help us if the rifle malfunctions and electrifies prematurely.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I have to agree to a certain extent, they really should try to keep things a bit more believable and natural, some abilities seem very impractical especially for the functional purpose they seem to have.

A Stockstrike would surely be useful to momentarily stun someone or knock someone over to the ground, but to do damage to someone, especially someone with heavy armour which usually is the case one would think to use something sharper like a bayonet, or just pull the trigger on the rifle which you are using.

Stockstrike/Shockstrike would be better off altered to function as a mild emergency CC/resource regeneration utility in case you go out of ammo, a move of desperation, available only when out of ammo for 3 seconds, knocks the enemy on the ground for 2s, and channels a 2s reload sequence which allows the reload of your weapon with up to 30% resources, it can be interrupted, cancelled by movement and reduced by 'pushback'.

The real issue is that rifles are being used at all. The Vanguard should be given the eye implants that the cyborg on Maelstrom Prison has. Forget about the rifle and just blast the eye beams. Problem solved.

I would love to know how I'm supposed to fire explosive round out of my eyeball.

Obviously, nanomachines will fire out of your eyeballs and construct explosive rounds in mid-air.

In other news, Flamethrower and Flame Burst are now executed by shooting fire out of your butt (note: these skills can only be executed with the help of a second person and a lighter).

Stockstrike has to be the lamest attack in the whole game, in terms of animation and concept. I had hoped they might use 3.0 to revamp it and give it a cool factor to compete with the Bounty Hunter's Rocket Punch. Sadly no, they just made a sparkly version instead.

Honestly I find Stockstrike better than rocket punch, but I would prefer a practical ability over both of them.

I have to agree here. Rocket Punch, because it does the damage immediately instead of a slight delay, makes the whole rotation feel disjointed and like i'm slowing down immediately after using it.
