dingoperson
Some people said the Gunslinger was a bit like the WoW mage. I guess the mage didn't have setup time to change between walking and shooting. +1 second for going into cover. Now, the funny thing about the cover mechanic is that often it just fails outright. You are standing at an incline, one some crates etc, hit the button - and when you do that you expect your ability bar to change. You try to queue up commands. Except that the message pops up: "Unknown effect". You actually had the old ability bar all along. +1 second for checking that "OK, the game has now managed to place me into a cover position like I wanted to", and for selecting the right opponent. Now, as a lv22 gunslinger getting stat boosted, I have 11500 health. I am gunning for a lv50 Sith Juggernaut with 18500 health. So I fire my signature move, the Aimed Shot. Now, this takes 2.5 seconds and do about 1700 damage in PvP. To take down that health I need 11 aimed shots. + 27.5 seconds for 11 aimed shots. And there's a tiny bit of input lag, personal lag etc (I played WoW a little bit and haven't PvPed all that much so far), so let's say 0.1 seconds is wasted in between each aimed shot. +1.1 seconds for inefficiency lag = 31.5 seconds. Now, if when any shot is going to be fired the opponent has moved _out of sight_, the shot fails. I have to run after and re-cover. If the opponent also moves _out of range_ I can't fire any more aimed shots. So presuming the Sith Juggernaut stands perfectly still and doesn't use any kind of recovery or protection abilities it takes me 31.5 seconds of sniper fire to take him down. I'm not going to accept that I'm totally noob at this, because I still get in the top 1/3 pretty much every time and never below average. But between the level (and hence ability point) difference, mega-geared hyper-health opponents and a cover mechanic as painful as pulling teeth, I can't recommend gunslingers or snipers to anyone for PvP. Consulars and DPS troopers/BHs look far more fun.
Grimhand
You realize that level 50 gear grants expertise/far more health/damage than level 22 stuff right? Level 50s roll pretty much anyone not at least level 40. Gunslingers/Snipers are among the top PvP classes right now.
dingoperson
That might well be the problem. Just an "above 30/below 30" bracket could fix a lot.

DO NOT USE THE DEFAULT HOTKEY FOR GOING INTO COVER. Repeat. DO NOT USE THE DEFAULT HOTKEY FOR GOING INTO COVER. Don't press "2." There's a major delay. If you use "F," you go into cover much faster.
