While we're ripping off Warcraft...

Don't get me wrong, huge fan of the game but if you're going to blatantly rip off the WoW levelling system, the max level scale down in anticipation of expansion and the removal of any form of hybrid, why not do some useful things? Flying mounts so I can ignore trash, racial benefits, the ability to do an op more than once a week? Surely the latter are things that should be made, not stat drops. The whole point of a level INCREASE is an INCREASE in stats and damage, whereas now it'll be February at the earliest when our dps is finally back to our level now.

It's more an mmorpg plan that does it in a way so the leveling experience doesn't become obsolete and only late game is in effect. Not necessarily ripping off WoW.

I think you have to really read and comprehend what they are doing. They are putting our max dps numbers down to coincide with what they are planning for the long extent of the game. So it stays healthy at all levels and doesn't just "wait till lvl 50 bro, then it really starts." They want to really nip that in the bud right away so that does not happen here like it did there for many, many years.

Also, it's not like they are nerfing it so we will be doing absolutely horrible amounts of damage. They are scaling things down to so it will appear to do the same damage as now but with a different plan of action for the stability and health of the game.

I agree they did rip off WOW however, the very first thing you asked for (flying mounts rofl)... Is one of those things the WOW devs regret to this day. In SWTOR you would have to totally rework each planet to make them work. I would rather spend the devs time moving forward, than going backwards.

I haven't played WoW. What was the problem that flying mounts brought to the game?

First what is good about flying in WoW - They did it right. When you fly in WoW you see the actual world passing by below including active characters, resources, mobs, etc.

What it cost - An enormous amount of effort. All of the Building tops etc had to be finished. Unlike scripting flying you can fly anywhere you can walk and a lot more places.

What is wrong with flying:

1. The amount of effort it takes to make free path flying seem realistic. I would rather the SWTOR and WoW devs spent time generating additional content.

2. The difficulty in designing content that is still fun and challenging when people can just fly over those pesky mobs, skip encounters, etc. For the last few expansions you couldn't fly in the new territory until Max level but even then it trivialized additional content. When they added the Isle of Time for example it was a no-fly zone. I really liked it, it was small but still interesting and challenging where it would have been trivial had flying been allowed.

The new WoW expansion will start out with no flying and there is no firm plan to put it in the game for the new territory. Personally I think this is a good idea. Not everyone does but we'll see how opinions change after the expansion drops.

For the effort it would take to put in true flying I imagine they could probably put in quite a few new story arcs. Plus I'm not sure the technology SWTOR is using could even handle the kind of flying that is in WoW.

SWTOR is its own game and I enjoy it. Although if they were gonna rip off WoW, I would like to see:

  • All chairs able to be sat in
  • Water that is actually water; i.e. swimmable
  • Holidays.
  • A city as a home base instead of a space station
  • A big planet that goes on and on.
  • Drinking :D

Other than that, I like SWTOR better, especially the way gear is. Changing out armorings/mods/enhancements is way better than transmogrification

Star Wars universe has different holidays from ours. Life Day isn't actually a Christmas equivalent, since the TV Special it came from was aired around US-ian Turkey Dinner Day of Gluttony and Thanks, so it could cover a wide range of gift-giving winter/late fall holidays.

*goes to the Cantina to bring out booze and only finds foods* Oh, thought there was booze somewhere...

The Holidays was the only thing I didn't care for, the rest seem fine IMO.

Unless we had some SW holidays invented (Victory Day on the yearly anniversary of KOTOR I, lore-wise recognizing the end of the Mandalorian War, maybe and such.)... Those would be fun.

Flying mounts so I can ignore trash

You can already. You need:

- Speeder Piloting 3

- Knowledge of game mechanics (aggro distance)

(- if you're stealth class, learn to use your stealth CC whenever it is possible)

I still don't know how people aggro that one group of dogs just before instance entrance on Section X (Republic) because there's no way you aggro either of the groups if you know what to do.

One company revamps the damage curve of their entire game because stat inflation was risking the game's integer cap.

One company wants the damage players need to do to clear new content to be about the same as what they are already doing, so smooths down the curve a bit so players achieve their requisite DPS in the new gear.

Yep, *exactlty* the same situation. Total ripoff.

Besides, is it ripping off WoW if WoW didn't do it first?

That is actually kind of cool.

You could also make up a holiday for May the 4th or May 25th (which I always assumed was the Star Wars date of the Battle of Yavin ) sense that was the release date of Star Wars

Wow.. One of my late night ramblings actually sounded cool and fun. I'm going to go make a thread in suggestions...

On topic: Saying "WoW did it first" is like on South Park when the episode was about "Simpsons did it first".

If it works, why not use it?

I'm not personally crazy about flying mounts, if only because it would require extra time coding in roofs of things, as said up thread, and that would be time away from other new content, or maybe even fixing content.

Well, they could take one page from WoW and mark NPCs and kiosks that offer group missions with some kind of differentiation from normal ones. It is a bit irritating to go through a slog of dialog, only to discover you were accepting a heroic quest.

That would be awesome. I hate having to go through my memory of "Is this the guy who gives that heroic that I'm going to skip for now, or is he a normal quest giver?"

Flying? Ya the WoW devs are actively trying to remove it.

Racial Benefits? I love swtor BECAUSE they don't have racial benefits. I can play the race I WANT to play without feeling gimped.

Multi versions of the same op per week? No...just no.

Why, so players have to spend more time slogging around through the same terrain over and over again?

Not that travel makes sense in any MMO, where it's become unquestioned tradition that you have to walk from O'Hare to LAX before you can fly between them on a plane...

i want flying mounts also... Its a star wars game without flying spaceships. Only platforms and cut scenes.

but swtor devs are fast food restaurant...I dont want to see mounts flying and my legs and cloths hanging in the air.. Even the basics are broken.

Swtor devs are the most lazy in any mmo... lol

They know they did wrong and they dont care to fix it. Bugs from day 1 and still here....

In the other hand, not all planets can be optimized for flying. Nar shadaa, Courasant, small ones like czerka, manaan, etc... cannot be optimized for flying.

They have to revamp all and give extra areas into them. Flying in wow is one of the best features, I dont think blizzard devs having a bad time with it. Another problem swtor has, is the draw distance. If you fly, you want be able to see anything underneath... lol

The truth is, that they keep it cheap, nobody knows if they ever decide to invest in swtor more money and fix it, upgrade it. Wow had lots of subs, so they invest more money into it. But taking some things from wow that are not successful, but only convenient for the devs... low investment + unwanted features = bad recipe.

World of warcraft removes tokens from the game, I think read that in an article.... Well, thats a good thing swtor should also consider! Conquest is succesfull and its all about crafting and credits. So fingers crossed into that.

Bioware have had many projects in the works, dragon age 3 (its finished), now we also have 2 star wars games in development (one is a mistery), lets hope its a swtor revamp and mass effect 4. They may offer some more bucks into swtor now... I am possitive that most of these projects are from swtor annual income...

ps: its sad that Da3 and mass effect 4, wont have modding...
