are campaign armor shells being removed in 3.0?

I just read in the developers threads that classic commendatios will be removed in 3.0. Does that also include the campaign armor shells? Or will there be another way to obtain them?

The campaign shells can be crafted but you have to buy one from the vendor and hope to learn the pattern when RE'ing it.

They may be purchasable for basic comms in 3.0, like stuff from planetary vendors probably will be. People without any expansion still need gear, so makes sense to still have some level 50 gear around. But no concrete info about it at this point.

Honestly it would be very nice if all of the raiding gear for an expansion is thrown onto the basic comm vendor at the start of every new expansion. And while they're add it, add an option for people to reverse engineer the shells and learn schematics.

You can already reverse engineer the shells for a schematic, except for the very latest stuff. And only the shells obtained from unassemmebled pieces can be reverse engineered for a schematic, with the exception of campaign gear purchased with classic commendations.

Oh I know, believe me I've been working on some of the classic comm gear.

Can you offer some more details about this type of reverse-engineering? I wasn't aware it was possible. You've already specified it's unassembled tokens only.

  • What is the current highest level of shells you can learn? Arkanian, Underworld, Dread Forged?
  • I assume nightmare shells (Kell Dragon, Dread Master) are never available to learn, correct?
  • Can the armor, mod and enhancement be stripped out without affecting the ability to RE a shell?

Thanks for the help.

correct, its unassembled tokens only with the exception of campaign shells purchased with classic commendations. Dread forged is currently the highest level shells you can reverse engineer for a schematic. You can reverse engineer all the lower level armor shells for a schematic except for Kell Dragon. Dread Master and Kell Dragon currently can't be learned, but might be learnable in the future. Yes the modifications can be stripped out without affecting the ability to Re the shell for a schematic. But if you reverse engineer the shells while the modifications are in there then you will also destroy the modifications as well as the shell.

Excellent. Thanks for the details.

You can still obtain that gear from the old flashpoints and operations. I'm not sure why that would change in 3.0.

I think the only gear they've truly removed at this point was the Tionese, Columi, and Rakata when they upgraded the drops to all be Black Hole. Hopefully this time around they leave us all the Black Market, Verpine, and Oriconian that you can get from ops and flashpoints.
