Mellilot
I reached level 13 before I found out how to select specialization for my smuggler. This was after searching the forums, wikis, and anywhere I could think of that might explain - but in the end a kind player , character name Puncho (may all his missions be successful!) told me in a few words how to do it. Thanks to him, and here for others who like me need a bit of help, is what to do: When you reach level 10, go to the fleet starship. In the corridor leading to the embarkation point for Ord Mantell you will find your class trainer. Speak to him, and he will refer you to another NPC who directs you to 'Lefty' the advanced trainer for smugglers. This little routine will allow you to specialise and select abilities. Easy when you know how! (NB : the advanced trainer, 'Lefty' also appears on Coruscant next to your class trainer - but will NOT enable you to specialise. And the 'K' key will not take you to the ability tree, contrary to advice given in a thread on these forums) I presume a similar routine is to be folowed by all classes, but I am bound to say that such simple but not readily obvious information should be made readily available in-game. And if it is available, it should be traceable by a simple search.
JaHakk
When you finish with your starter planet you get a quest to go to fleet. You board the transport shuttle and it drops you off right in front of person that sends you to your specialization mentor. Its not hard if you just follow your quest. This ^^ Although I won't lie, if you're not trying to do every mission on every planet etc., it can be hard to miss those missions. Ex. when I leveled my trooper, I don't even remember how I got to choose my AC because I was picking up every mission anyways, but when I was leveling a marauder, I had to look closely to find which NPC to talk to. I think that Bioware should make choosing your AC a class quest E.g As soon as you hit level 10, you discover a mission that directs you to the NPC that allows you to choose an AC.
