Cross Faction Private Chat Channels

I know, it has been asked 1000 times... so once more wont hurt :D

Seriously, I do not see the issue of having cross faction chat, at least in Private Channels.. it doesn't need to be public, like Gen or anything.

With the current 12x XP, people are leveling toons like mad... it would be nice to stay in touch with friends, etc while on the other faction.

Problem would be with PvP

They can prevent companions and pets from showing up in warzones and ffa pvp areas; they can disable cross-faction chat channels under the same circumstances.

I say this while admittedly fuzzy on why exactly this is a problem, unless to somehow pretend that people trying to grief others will not find a way to do so anyway, but I violently dislike pvp and stay away from it. That being said, I now use an external chat program to chat with friends apparently 'because pvp'. Sounds more like an excuse than a reason.

Fine, I'll explain further. People can give away strategies to the other side JUST so the other side wins and with it being private, it would be impossible to know who the rat is.

Which seems like a non-issue anywhere but warzones and ffa areas, so.. as per my post, not really a reason at all, since they can simply disable this in these areas like they disable other things in these areas.

I hadnt considered the PvP implications (although, the phrase "this is why we can't have nice things" crossed my mind on reading the first reason given was PvP).

I PvP myself, at least enough for the dailies/weeklies in unranked. This seriously can not be the reason why cross faction chat can't happen.

There are a multitude of other games with PvP that allow this very thing. Fact of the matter is... this is the only game I have played where there is this type of restriction. In the other games I have played, world/general/zone is completely open, guild chats are restricted to members.

Get out with "PVP implications". If people act like idiots report them and done, or block cross-faction channels in PVP. Entire rest of game communication shouldn't suffer because "PVP". Cross-faction communication wall is one of the most ridiculous things a SOCIAL MMO game could do. Seriously, a game that is suppoused to be based on communication between friends and guildmates... As an avid PvPer, this game doesn't even have the competitive support that WoW does, and win-trading was a problem in that game even before the addition of battle.net communication. bnet didn't make it any worse.

"Because PvP" is the worst reason to not allow cross-faction channels. As for whispers, we really need cross-faction friend lists already.

Make it for Sister Guilds only then at the very least, moreover, I'm tired of having to swap sides to see who is on my IMP guild when I'm on PUB side. You should be able to chat with a "linked guild" & see it's Guild list from both sides.

I don't want to make it "harder" to implement. Since there is no way to "link" a guild today, that only adds development time.

I agree with your point about seeing who is on), which could be alleviated with a simple cross faction private channel that your guild (and sister guild) use. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

Simple Solutions are often the best: Make private channels cross faction

But we're talking about basic communication features. It absolutely deserves all the dev time it needs. Expanded communicationa nd guild features have been requested for YEARS, nothing has changed since early launch, zero. I will gladly "sacrifice" 5 new amazing Cartel speeders if we can get communication/grouping tools that ain't seem like they're from late 90s internet chats. Edited by Pietrastor

I do not disagree with you. My point is, they havent invested dev time to date on guild features nor enhancing chat. The more complicated we make the initial request... the more likely it will not be done (as hours invested to return will be calculated).

I'd be perfectly content with simple cross faction private chat channels. No other bells, whistles, or requirements.

Now, guild tools... that should be another thread... I have a list... :)
