Is there any point to this? I've been playing PvP server and has not encountered one enemy player upto level 55.

In a planet Alderaan, there were 3 instances and in my instance there were merely 38 players. It makes it nigh impossible for people to meet on open map.

Besides world PvP, is there anything PvP server does that is different from PvE server? I left SWTOR 3 years ago and Illum seems to have gone for some reason. I'm confused.

The engine Swtor uses couldn't handle large scale open world PvP so they go rid of it. As for what is the difference in servers, I don't believe there is much of a difference. Strongholds were supposed to provide the opportunity for opposing factions to fight in open world. I'm unguilded so I haven't experienced that yet.

I think you mean Conquest, not Strongholds. Unless you were referring to the name of the patch rather than the game feature.

OP - You're might be on a server that has a faction balance problem. It might not be a bad idea to pop into the forum server section and ask some questions about faction balance on your server's public forum. If that turns out to be the case, you could visit some of the other forums for other PvP servers to see if there are any with a faction balance that might be more to your liking. Then you could start transferring characters to that server. I hope you find what you are looking for!

Ganking.

When you hit 55, head back to Tatooine and gank the lowbies coming through...it helps to have both an Imp and Pub at 55 so you know where both factions need to go as part of their class quest. Great fun!!!

I KID! No real point like in some games - 99% of all PvP happens inside WZ's...Oricon has some great opportunities for OWPvP, but it's usually one sided.

Ilum was laggy and horrible at times, but I had a blast there and to this day I believe one of their biggest mistakes was removing the PvP content from it.

the 38 players are your side only. You cannot see the other side's numbers.

World PvP in a game with Levels (ie classic MMO) is pointless since most world PvP consists of ganking lower level players on levleing planets. Alos, if there is a side imbalance that completely makes world PvP pointless yet again as in games like SWTOR anything other then a 1 v 1 is 99% a loss for the guy, let alone 3,5,10,20 vs 1 or 2.

The should just remove the PvP (and RP, there is no reason you need a special server to RP on) servers and force ALL PVP into WZ/Arenas/duels and a few locations(yes add more) like Outlaws Den.

Wait, in fact they should just have 1 server for US and 3 for EU (English, French, German), unless you could run different language clients on same server, then just 1 EU

Or make the PvP server max cap only. Cannot go there till you reach 55 (or 60).

I just transferred a low level character over to PvE from Jung Ma just so I could play him.

Used to be more of a point. In the early days there was loads of owpvp not including Ilum. Later some servers had planned and unplanned big battles. I miss all that despite the engine, and in some cases the server, choking on it.

Now the only owpvp I see is related to conquest groups in enemy territory and a little periodically in newer daily areas.

Obviously the point is to give folks a choice, so those not wanting to run around flagged all the time can enjoy their game without running into an idiot who's whole idea of fun is to jump someone 30 levels lower than him.

Same for the RP'ers. If folks want to make believe they're some crappy sith dude or holier than the pope jedi, please let them bore each other to death on their own server.

Luckily there are choices, so to each their own.

As was said they were going to be totally open pvp. They were also going to run a number of their own rules to support that. That kind of went the way of so many other things too much money and no longer enough people to do it all.

I think that idea would be unpopular among many pvpers. I know more than a few people who play on pvp servers in WoW simply because they like the thrill/challenge presented by higher level players who can obliterate them. When I used to play on those pvp servers with them, I'll admit that I was not a fan of the rampant ganking, but if anyone put a message into general chat or on the forums to complain about it happening on a pvp server, the entire community was pretty quick to jump on them about it. It was fairly clear to me that ganking is a part of the PvP realm experience that many players enjoy whether they be a sadist or a masochist.

Ganking.

This is pretty much the sole reason most people roll on pvp servers.

I used to roll on pvp servers because I thought it would be neat, always having the thrill of never knowing if you might have to fight someone else leveling in that zone...turns out that the "thrill" was getting repeatedly ganked by max level characters on your lowbie. Been like this on just about every pvp server I've ever played on, so I quit playing on them.

There is what may turn out to be an interesting experiment on that over at Pathfinder Online, matter of fact. It is still barely alpha but the proposal is to reward 'constructive' and disincentivize 'destructive' behavior. So if your town declares war on another town then it's open world PvP between those towns but without such formalities the player takes a huge reputation hit for ganking someone and ends up unable to train. Interesting concept I'll be interested in witnessing... eventually. Edited by Gleneagle

Lineage 2 was very similar to this, and it worked out pretty well.

Typically a plantary instance is capped at 100 players. That means there are 62 players on the opposite faction in that instance(usually a little less though, because new instances stay open even after there's more space in the previous instance and they don't prioritize capping out the first instance).

Alderaan has very little overlap between Imperial and Republic quest lines. You might see enemy players in the final map, particularly within the royal palace because the Imperial and Republic quests lead to the same instances there.

The best planet for overlap is Voss though. They've actually got overlapping respawn points and speeder transports on that planet.
