Republic or Empire? Are there differences?

I rolled my main character in the Republic because it tends to have less players(on the Harbinger server), hence there are less newbies in PvP.

However, what I didn't consider was the fact that Republics/Empires have different stories. My understanding is that all flashpoints/operations/expansion's missions have different stories for each faction, correct? In that case I would rather play on the empire's side since it is more interesting for me.

Are there any more differences to playing on either faction?

Empire has cookies.

EDIT : Except a few operations/flashpoints. Both have about the same stories.. Told from a different point of view. The change is really in the planetary quest lines.

And the class/companion stories, of course. :p

But other than that, you're correct. The plotlines for the operations and flashpoints are pretty much the same, just from a different PoV.

Really depends on your server and what kind of player you are,

The class stories are completely different on each side. To experience each story you need to play each class at least once. If you just want to get to level 55 and do end game then take this advice:

POT5 is a PvP where the empire dominates in PvP. The rep side has some good players but the empire has all the big pvp guilds.

If you want to do PvE and don't care about PvP at all, any of the PvE servers will suffice. Either side should be ok as well.

reps are corruption, evil, destructrion.

imps are the good guys

I could give u some examples, but it will be spoilers...

ps: But I experienced all 4 stories in reps, plus i got many characters and I play empire.

I think to experience the game one needs to at least try to play through all 8 stories. That's said, playing any Imperial story for me is so depressing. The mad fest of cruel sadistic theocratic tyrants with oppression as a policy, and the population reduced into slavery and subservience with basically good people twisted into either monstrosities or pathetic ruins. Gods, how I hate playing my Imperials.... BH is Okay'ish, I guess, but then there are awful Mandos.... But here are still planetary sidequests, of course. Kindda bracing myself for finishing the Warrior after my Trooper hits the end of Chapter 2, and doing the IA with 12xXP, because I can't stand the thought of playing her for a few months.... hopefully be done in a couple of weeks and can shelf her finally. I think it is good for individuals who are idealistic about 'the Good' to play through Republic class stories since they show where idealism can get complicated. It is a positive to see how grey the good can get. And it is also good to see the downsides of the dark side.

Human beings learn best through play, whether a child or adult. I think the stories told by BW's writers are culturally significant.

The Empire may have cookies, sure.

But if you care about winning PvP at 55 on the Harbinger you'll want to be a Pub.

Are PUG imps really that bad on Harbinger? That was the main reason I rolled Reb in the first place, but I figured the difference wont' be much since the only reason I could think of is population difference.

How about ops? If I use a group finder, would I run into more noobs with voss gear in Empire?

Yes, but the cookies are all at least a little on the Dark Side.

Pretty much except for the gameplay for end game ops and most flashpoints, EVERYTHING is completely different based on faction, side quests, class quests, planet quests, some flash points, and most daily zones. (CZ and oricon being the exception, same quests dif dialog.)
