Disicipline Calculator at Dulfy

Need to understand more than anything...

When I look at the calculator, I realize its not finished product and may not be the actual device developed by Bioware, but if the calculator is for real...

My first take is that there is really not much for choice in this, you simply gain s fixed set of skills as you level, and the real choice you get is tn the choosing of the order of the 6 abilities inht eupper right hand box, which ultimately as you attain the top level you would have them all, the other two boxes of abilities seem to automatically unlock as well as you level. So the question, where is the choice or customization to make us slightly different, as I see the calculator it will actually make us carbon copies of each other which in a way is a great step backwards from the 3 tiers we currently have, but perhaps I am missing something...

Also in the descriptions of the coming disciplines are we are being giving an advance class respec choice? One time only though, did I read this right?

Can any one clarigy this for me/

Sue

Given the source of the calculator (Not Dulfy, but her source) it is not advisable to discuss it here in the forums.

The source of the information used in the calculator was the Dev Livestream a couple weeks ago. The calculator has been--and will continue to be--discussed here quite frequently without issue.

The calculator is only using data from the livestream, so I think it is fine to discuss it, but even then, the OP wasn't even talking about the calculator specifically.

To answer the questions:

It is on purpose that you have less choice. They want to make sure that each advanced class has only three different Disciplines, and no hybrid specs, so have less choice in that regard. On the other hand, you have much more choice on raid utility ablities now, that were previously restricted to a certain tree but can now be specced by everyone.

And no, advanced class respec is not coming with 3.0. You can only switch between Disciplines, similar to how you can now switch between trees.

I'd definitely recommend you to watch this livestream, in it they explain the whole Discipline system and their motivation behind it, and they answered all your questions in there.

You only choose utilities. You get 7 points, 3 must be spent in the first section to progress to the next, then 2 more points must be spent in the first 2 tiers to move to the third and you have 2 points to spend after that. The choice is that you can have any utilities you want provided you spend the amount of points required to move to the next tier on the abilities you feel are most applicable for your playstyle. It's not like you should have been spending your points in your chosen skill tree any differently than anyone else before if you were attempting to maximize your potential.

As I understand it, the current field respec option (under "character perks" in legacy) will allow you to switch disciplines and/or reset utility points any time you want.

And what they've said about the rest of it goes in line with what you just said. We will be locked into one specific discipline path at a time, gaining a strict linear progression of upgrades within that set path based on the character's current level. Every path from 10 to 60 will feature 4 active abilities exclusive to that path, 13 passive abilities exclusive to that path, and 7 points to be spent on utilities. Utilities are arranged in 3 tiers with 7 options per tier. You must spend at least 3 points within tier 1 before you can put anything into tier 2, and you must spend at least 5 points within tiers 1 and 2 before you can put anything into tier 3.

edit: I missed that there was apparently some confusion in this about advanced class. To be clear, disciplines are only replacing the skill trees within each advanced class. Sorcs will still be sorcs, and assassins will still be assassins. They'll just each see 3 paths as their options instead of 3 trees. And then there are the utility options on the side, which will be the same for every discipline within the same advanced class.

Hey Andrellma,

Just to alleviate any concerns around that content. What Dulfy has in her calculator is only information regarding the Sorcerer, which we have talked about at length officially on our livestream. As long as that calculator only contains information which we have released/covered, then it is totally fine to post about on the official forums!

How it works is you pick the "tree" that you'd like to play as and all of the abilities on the left side will automatically unlock as you level. As you level however, you unlock utility points that you can spend. There are a total of 7 points and, based on the calculator, 21 possible utilities. It's impossible to get them all. The utilities on the right is where they've given you your customization. It's actually more likely that players will have different builds now than it was with the tree system.

Just because "he who shall not be named" made it doesn't mean we can't talk about it. Everything on there has already been officially announced by BioWare. It's all from the live stream.

Yeah, the problem comes with posting unreleased information pulled from game files.

Since the information in the calculator was pulled from what was presented from an official source (the dev livestream), it's fair game.

It's essentially the same as discussing things that were seen in the expansion's trailer video.

Thanks for clearing that up, Musco. I had always been under the impression that pretty much anything from that source was generally considered taboo.

Ermm... they named an in-game cartel market regen item after Dulfy... not sure they'd have done that if 'that source' was taboo?

Regardless of other sources, all of the information is available from the livestream they did. Just because there is a wrong source to obtain information from doesn't mean there isn't a right one that has the same thing.

Thank you for your kind replies...

I am not as versatile as many of you are in finding detailed information about anything in particular in the SWTOR forums, call me navigational and search challenged :<)

When the whole discipline thing came out, I will admit at experiencing quite a great deal of anxiety over it, and thus I want to learn as much as I can and have pre=planned layouts so when the day I log on and all 11 of my alts are suddenly skill-less, I can go about an rebuild them and then go on to play and enjoy myself.

I would like to see a detail explanation on how to system works, in written, with pictures oh please, and then walked through what the various "powers" actually are, having grown in 3 different countries and spoken 2 different languages, I do not always interpret the short descriptions as readilly and clearly as many of you can. For instance many powers say target is slowed, and dealt damage is halved. I tend to get confused here and one of my interpretations are: My target is slowed down, but while its slowed down any damage the target suffers is halved, as opposed that n ot only are they slowed down, the damage they could produce is also slowed down. I would be grateful for more precise language to be used such: Target of power suffers a 50% reduction to their speed and damage dealing abilities.

For all I know, there is already a place with this valuable information in the forums, rather than the off-site calculator at Dulphy or somewhere else. If so can someone please, please give me a thread?

They have not released detailed information on the classes as of yet. They covered some of the Sorcerer utilities during the livestream someone linked previously, but the calculator on Dulfy's page is the only information that is out currently. They will cover more classes through livestreams in November.

How is it fair that sorcs have their discipline fleshed out but no other AC's do? All the info is out there, why must you restrict it to the one class you guys chose to show off?

Also, if it wasn't for this other avenue of content, do you think people would still have the same level of hype as they do now?

P.S. The answer is no

I realize you are posting this because you want to hate on Bioware, but all of this information was in the live stream. And they've only released Sorc because that's all they covered. Next week they are going to cover general combat changes. Then they are doing other ACs in November. Do some research and you won't be so angry all the time.
