Best Class for PvE Healing

I'm completely new to the game. I just finished installing it and I'm about to boot it up and play. I just wanted to know, for future reference, what are the best classes for;

PvE Tanking

PvE Healing

PvP Damage

Thank you in advanced, and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

From a strictly personal opinion perspective:

Healer: from what I've seen, the Scoundrel may be best, when done properly. My Sage does a good job as well, and is a bit easier.

Tank: Guardian

DPS: I find that my Gunslinger works the best for me, but I think the Sage, Sentinel, and Commando also work well.

Note - the tank and healer votes come mostly from observation as I have no tank (as yet) and the good Scoundrels I've seen appear to work better than my Sage the majority of the time.

Note also that this may depend upon the particular skill tree you choose for each class.

There is no "best class" except the one, you like to play the most. Each has its peculiarities, often more than one with the different skill trees. Actually, I find the balance of the class system one of the most felicitous aspects in the game. Furthermore, the player matters more than the class in terms of pretty much anything, and how the class fits his/her play style. The best we could do, is point out pros and cons of each class. Rather many threads about that already though, so tbh I currently do not have the time to write it up yet again.

Like the poster above said, it's definitely a lot of personal preference. Try the one that sounds best or looks like the most fun. Chances are, you'll discover before 55 whether or not it's really for you.

My personal opinion is:

Tank: PT/Vanguard

Easy to learn, good threat both single target and AOE, heavy armor. Con: few CDs.

DPS: Concealment operative/Anni Mara/Scrapper Scoundrel/Watchman Sent (I don't like any ranged classes right now, hoping that changes in 3.0)

Op: Easy, fun, bursty as heck.

Anni: Relatively easy, two lightsabers, lots of interupts

Healer: Mercenary/Commando

Kolto shell/trauma probe OP! I find it easiest and enjoy it the most.

Of course, everything is changing some in 3.0, so what you might like now might not be your favorite then.

As other people say, 'best' is subjective, but since it's an opinion, here's mine as someone doing HM 55 Op raiding (and reading various opinions voiced by progression Guilds):

  • PVE Tanking - Shadow/Assassin . From my personal experience, they seem to have some of the best up front Threat generation and utility in the game. At one time, they were the tank type that took the most skill to play; I think some of that has been mitigated with changes made to them a few point releases back, but I think there's an element of that there still. (Full disclosure: I play a Guardian in progressive raiding and moonlight with a Shadow and Sin tank in lower content. I find them both enjoyable, but I find the latter two to be more rewarding)

  • PVE Healing - Toss up between Scoundrel/Operatives and Commando/Mercenaries. I think a combination of the two is considered THE best healers to take into NiM Oricon content. (FD: I have one of each type of Healer, but only play Sage/Sorc and Scoundrel/Op in endgame. Both have merits I enjoy. Our progressive raid group, until recently, ran with two Sages. It's viable. But a mix is considered 'better'.)

I can't speak to the PVP DPS since I don't PVP.

But, again, like someone else said, everything is changing in 3.0, changes we won't find out about fully until November, so this is only good until December 2nd.

Tanking: Juggernaut/guardian. With 3 interrupts, 4 damage reducers, and some crazy cool looking skills, jugg/guard tanking is the way to go, I've rolled a jugg/guardian 3 times (a 55, 37, and 28) not to bad, their dps isn't bad either.

DPS: hard to day, it's a tie between concealment/scrapper scoundrel/op and combat/carnage Mara/sent. Sentinels are to die for, with some if the coolest animations, easy to know rotations, and decent dps out put its great, scrapper is a bit more intensive stealth burst class, also nice melee dps with some ranged.

Healing: Sawbones scoundrel, unless you are using the worst rotation in history, or you just plain suck, you will never run out of energy. It is so good just to spam underworld med then emergency kolto. So satisfying with a high crit you can go far in this tree.

Thanks, man. I'm loving my scoundrel so far. Can't wait to try tanking after I get done with this toon. :)
