[Question] Will the Group Finder be Discipline aware?

QUESTION:

Will the Group Finder be Discipline aware?

In other words, will the Group Finder now queue you based on the Discipline you have active at the time of queuing and will it prevent from changing your Discipline if you are queued in the Group Finder?

(For example: if you are a Vanguard and you chose the "Shield Specialist" Discipline you will automatically be queued as a Tank; if you are a Vanguard and you chose the "Assault Specialist" you will be queued as a DPS; etc...)

Or will players still be able to cheat the system, and their group mates, by choosing a role that they are not specced for?

(I really hope the answer is "yes". ;))

Since the answer is currently, yes, people can do that, I would imagine they would still be able to when Disciplines launch. If it becomes problematic afterwards, as it did with PvP, I suppose they will make an effort to change it if they feel it is necessary.

But we really don't know and we won't know for a while.

Why exactly do you think the group finder will change at all for the update? Did they mention they are reworking it? Because if they don't, I see no reason for it to not work as it works now. You will be able to queue for the roles your class can fulfill, regardless of what your active spec is.

Well, currently you can "spec all over the place" and end up with a tankyDPS/healerDPS build which, in the right hands, would actually allow you to fulfil the Tank/Healer role minimally without being fully specced into that. With this change, the introduction of Disciplines, players will no longer be able to "spec all over the place" and will actually be locked into a specific role from the outset: Tank, Healer or DPS depending on the discipline they chose. So, being able to choose your role in Group Finder seems redundant and prone to... let's call it... mistakes in choosing your role.

I don't know if it is changing and, no, they have in fact not mentioned that it is being changed. But in light of what Disciplines brings to the table it seems like a valid question to ask if the Group Finder will be Discipline aware. Strangely enough the wording of your answer would appear to imply that you are one of those that likes to queue as something that he isn't or at least actively supports the possibility that others can do so despite the impact to group play that it causes.

That would be nice. Since the discipline system will eliminate hybrid builds, I see no reason not to auto assign roles based on the discipline you q as.

Exactly. :)

And so, the question stands: Will the Group Finder be Discipline aware?

Of course I like the option to queue as anything my class can fulfill. Field respec exists for a reason. When I'm on my mercernary, I'm specced for DPS but queue as both dps and healer for FPs. That way, I can continue levelling and if I get picked as the role I'm not specced for, I just respec when I get into the FP.

It does seem logical that this will be the case after the update as well. What I mean by this is, if they didn't change it up until now, I see no reason why they would change it in the expansion, since the Disciplines seem to be functioning in the same way as skill trees do.

Except some people want to queue as multiple roles because they can spec into either one. On my Commando, I always queue for both dps and heals. While I'm in the queue, I'm sometimes doing dailies or something, so I'm in my dps spec. If the queue pops for dps, I just do the FP as a dps. If it pops for heals, I quickly respec to heals, swap to my healing gear, and proceed to heal the FP. Usually it pops for heals, but I would still rather be dps spec while doing dailies in the queue.

Forcing people to be in the healing or tanking disciplines when they queue for a FP/Op would be annoying because it prevents you from switching to DPS (which is much faster and more efficient) to do dailies or whatever.

So my many many toons that have field respec, and carry 2-4 sets of gear cannot queue as both? Thats a terrible idea.

Oh, come on. Seriously? You really think that if the Group Finder becomes Discipline aware, that not being able to choose your role is going to impact you guys in anyway when you both admit that you carry the extra gear with you and have a field respec?

Let's just imagine for a minute that the Group Finder is Discipline aware. Let's also not forget that queue times for Healers and Tanks are practically non-existant. So if you want to queue as a Tank or Healer with a Discipline-aware-Group-Finder, you respec to Tank or Healer, queue up and BAM! you're in a FlashPoint. What changed from the way things are now other than the fact that you would have to respec *before* queuing for your almost-instant pop FP instead of *after* you have been assigned a role (which 99% of the time will be the Tank/Healer role that you are already prepared to fill)?

Making the Group Finder Discipline aware isn't going to impact you guys, and others like you, in any way at all.

What it will do is stop those that have realized that by queuing as a Tank or Healer they don't have to wait for a FP to pop even though they don't have the spec, the gear, the mindset or the skill to Tank/Heal and they hope to breeze by under the radar and hope that no one notices that they aren't fulfilling the role they queued as (and since they can actually get away with this behaviour up until their late 30s, they feel that they are doing nothing wrong).

Tell me je-s-ter, do you enjoy getting queued as a Healer, respeccing as a Healer and then realizing that the "Tank" in your group is nothing of the sort and yet he expects you to fulfil your role even though he has no intention of doing the same? Wouldn't you prefer that that never happened to you again?

With the introduction of Disciplines, players will know what it is they are choosing when they choose a Discipline. They will *know* whether they are choosing a Tanking role, a Healing role or a Damage Dealing role. Better yet, the *game* will know what they chose and will know what that Discipline can and cannot do (just as it does now with relation to your Advanced Class). It would make perfect sense if the Group Finder was Discipline aware.

And so, the question stands: Will the Group Finder be Discipline aware?

Would it be possible to get an oficial answer to this question, please?

After all, this is a question about how a new system that is being introduced might interact with a currently in place system.

A simple "yes" or "no" would be enough.

Thank you.

We really need this, people lie all the time about their spec, and they DO NOT RESPEC as some claim.

They are dumb enough to use the 36 point talent for the spec they supposedly don't have.

Nothing like trying to tank when one of your "DPS" keeps dropping Whither...

There's no reason to think this. It's possible that it will be easier to achieve the builds that are currently hybrid not eliminate them.

Huh? Hybrids will presumably be eliminated...you'll pick your ONE tree/discipline and that'll be it...no more points, no more trees. How would you get a hybrid?

lol, no it's not, I have Qed as DPS + Heals for years and it NEVER pops DPS.

I have however been in many groups with fail healers that actually have a DPS spec and lied.

Then kick the liar. The option is there.

A better way, assuming you can change Disciplines on the fly for free in addition to the utility skills (I'm not sure if they clarified that), would be to force you to respec if you end up in a role with the wrong discipline. So you could still queue as two roles, but if you end up in a role that doesn't match your discipline, it makes you respec before it lets you in the instance (or at the very least indicates to the rest of the group that you're the wrong spec so they can vote kick you if you don't respec).

You'll still end up with people in the wrong gear sometimes, or people who aren't good at their chosen role, but at least they'll have the right spec, or everyone else in the group will know they have the wrong spec right at the beginning instead of after they've wiped on the first boss.

I hope it will not, you are really hindering players that only spec for a specific role when in group and another when not (Tanks in group/dps when solo or healer in groups/dps when solo). I like to run as dps when doing the dailies while I queue as a healer, what you are proposing will kill that.

So I really hope not.

Perhaps I misunderstood, then, but from what I read it sounded like skills from other trees would be more available, not less. I guess it depends on what they consider a 'utility'

It won't kill anything. This was already covered in this thread. Click to go to page 2 and read the first post on that page.

Anyway, this thread is about asking if the Group Finder will or will not be Discipline aware. It really isn't about discussing the merits or demerits of such a system (although to be honest, how a system that prevents "lying" or "abusive behaviour" can be considered "bad" is beyond me).

When we say hybrid will be eliminated, it means you can not pick two learned abilities from two different trees as you can do right now.

For example: Smash-Gore hybrid for marauders, you go as high enough to pick gore from Carnage tree and then go as far as you can in the smash tree, this type of of hybrids is gone!

Other core talent will be locked as well, for example unremitting from the Jugg middle tree will be locked as well since it will be OP for other two trees to get. So anything vital for the tree will be locked down.

Now the stuff that would seem you can share is the low key utility like the following (as an example):

Force Camouflage now has a 100% to purge movement-impairing effects.

I have read (otherwise I wouldn't be replying!).

It is not logical (or possible) to be discipline aware and have the freedom we have right now.
