SH Decoration interface designer should be FIRED.

THE SINGLE most INCOMPETENT interface in the game (and SWTOR menus, crafting, etc. are HORRIBLE .. no search feature???) But the SH decoration interface gets the prize for most horrible.

First, the interface tries to "guess" what you want to place on a hook, even if the item YOU had in mind is on another menu. The menu oftens reverts to show all items, instead of what YOU picked, which was, show unlocked. If I put a chair in one place, and click on a hook next to it, the menu shifts to the last item placed in a similar hook, even if it has NOTHING to do with what you're doing. There is NO SEARCH FEATURE!!!!!! If I select a category, like "furniture," and put a couch down, when I next click on a hook, the menu switches to tables, or chairs... or whatever.

HOW ABOUT you just leave the effin menu ALONE??? Give players the option to turn off the auto-sort, because it SUCKS. It is counter-intuitive, and I find myself cursing the interface and whatever person or persons are responsible for creating it.

Seriously, go play WOW and figure out how to do menu interfaces. SHEESH.

I don't know about the interface but I had no problems decorating my houses, its pretty simple to navigate tbh, but can also be weird at sometimes when you used up all the current item and have to sort by available instead but thats the only setback I have with it.

It's absolutely horrible and inconvenient, yeah. I'm decorating my third stronghold now, and it's a huge pain when you're switching between the types of hooks. Every. Single. Time. I want a search function, I want no auto-switching between categories/show, and I'd like to be able to shift-click each decoration in decoration menu to show it in chat.

The items category switching is indeed bad.

Using hooks was already not convenient but now it's annoying.

It makes me think of the character sorting on the login screen, wish they left that alone.

When they try to think for the player they do it wrong and makes things more troublesome

It's especially bad for trophies.

I was surprised to see I still had a few trophies, on Dromund Kaas, when my list on Coruscant was desperately blank. And then I realized the interface had just decided to show only operation bosses. Cause, y'know, Flashpoint bosses kinda suck.

You choose FP bosses. Next hook? Ooooh, look Timmy, it's reverted to OPERATIONS trophies again.:mad::mad:

Fired and never allowed to work for another game company ever again!!!!!

BTW - your new patch ruined my medical droids rendering my med station in my StrongHold completely useless.

THANKS BIO-FAIL

Meh, use your fab droids or Felusia for a vendor. and repair. The med droids only sold low-level crap anyway. I do hope they fix the med droid NPCs BUT.... the BEST thing about yesterday's patch?

You can now place 25 actual NPCs including companions and vendors, dancers, bartenders, etc. independently of minipets and live mounts!

Please don't start tossing out *JOB TITLE* should be fired.

Because, the designer did their job, the design works well. The implementation is what is broken. I think they tried to use code from the GTN and it does not work the same.

Yeah they did a really good job with the interface just needs some more tweaking for later, but for now its working as intended and it really is a great one tbh alot better than some other mmos

I disagree.

Maybe they did a great job regarding the constraints but the actual system isn't that great.

Here's a few example of why it's wrong, UI wise:

  1. The player has no visual indication in which direction the item is going to be moved or rotated.
  2. By trying to make preemptive choices the system goes wrong 90% of the time
  3. Browsing items isn't convenient, at least there should be buttons to next/back selected items without needing to hit next on a page then select an item.
  4. Can't preview an item size without actually buying and dropping it in a hook
  5. Can't resize the preview window
  6. There's no search function
  7. There's no way to find where you actually dropped a specific item, nor recover it without finding it in the specific house and hook
  8. You can't pickup items that are larger than their hooks without changing the hook layout
  9. Larger items in larger hooks prevents you from picking up/tweaking smaller ones when covering them
  10. You can't select multiple items and apply the same pattern to them
  11. You can't edit the stronghold owner banner
  12. You can't browse the GTN without having the inventory, GTN and decoration windows overlapping.

Now there are many other issues with the Stronghold design but UI wise it's even bit tedious.

THIS. The preemptive choices and lack of search function (in any SWTOR menus) drive me nuts, in particular, but ALL of your points hit the mark.

That was a really good list, actually, of frustrations with the strongholds UI. I wouldn't probably go so far as to say (as the OP did) that somebody should be fired, but I would like to see them iterate on the interface.

One thing that I will say would make my life a lot better with regards to stronghold decorating would be some sort of search function. I usually know exactly what I want to place and what it's called, so it's frustrating to have to select about three different dropdowns to make my list manageable, and then page through the results to actually place it. And that's assuming I remember whether it's civic, environmental, technological, or whatever, which I messed up all the time when I first started using the system.

This is only going to get worse as BioWare continue to add more decorations.

I still say they should have added more centerpieces, starship hooks, and stuff like that, but if you can't navigate the menu that easily i'm sorry for that but its already to simple imo.

Simple =/= efficient, even less convenient.

The mouse is considered as a simple interface, yet one of the least efficient one.

The exagerations in this thread are outstanding. I don't have much issue with the interface past a lack of search functions, but then again, people say they have a herd time searching the crafting menu. Really, it's hard to use the sort function?

It's inconvenient at best, but it's not broken. People crying like this and not providing solutions to help improve upon the interface are the problem. Armchair programmers who think assembling their facebook page makes them knowledgeable. Just let me know where you work so I can demand you be fired from your job for not performing to my expectations next time.

I love society today trying to make first world problems sound bigger than they are.
