leveling skills & rotation

My arsenal mercenary is level 21 now and with me having played Sith sorcerer and Jedi consular before, the sheer amount of abilities is overwhelming. Playing a sorc it was clear which abilities are good for assassin and useless for sorc, so I could get this sorted out quick. But with the BH, there are so many different shots and missiles that I sometimes find myself just using random skills to get the mobs down.

 

So, as noobish as it may sound, I'd like to know which abilities are important for an arsenal merc dealing with normal and elite mobs, and which abilities can just be thrown out of the action bar. For example, would a merc still use flamethrower at times or should I get rid of this skill?

 

It would also be nice to read about pyro rotation, because I'd like to try out a pyro build somewhere in the near future, too.
