Oortael
So, I won't lie, I'm coming from STO, and I bought it when it first came out. They offer a lifetime subscription. Can SWTOR come out with that? I'd prefer to pay once and take a risk rather than pay month to month...or periodically every 3 or 6 months. How about it? Lifetime sub? Please? What's everyone else think?
Shadysketchy
No, if they announce lifetime subs; many players, including myself will be cancelling immediately, as lifetime subs are never offered by successful MMOs

aarowill
lifetime subs sound good to the consumer, but they actually hurt the game long term, it gives the devs less money to work with for content patches. is that what you want? I'd say paying with the plans they have available lets you support the devs better.

toolegittoquit
No successful MMO has ever offered lifetime subs, wont start now. What is the measure of MMO success? Specifically, is Lord of the Rings Online a successful MMO? It offered a lifetime subscription option when it launched.
raeyk
NEVER!, and i am subbed currently. Noone will ever likely pull this off with out looking like a complete money grab.

Fezra
NO Not to sound like a jerk but you came from a game created by a company that has spent the last 5 years putting out utter crud and calling it an MMO.Cryptic knew their products sucked and would eventually go F2P so a lifetime sub made sense for them.It doesnt here as they would actually be losing money in the long run. Dajunka
For the first time ever I would consider buying a life time subscription to a mmo, as I see myself playing SWTOR for a very, very long time.
Koyi_Aldira
Just out of curiosity OP, how much would you propose this to cost? Considering the 6 month costs 80 dollars rounded up.
Hyperblue
$300 is fair for lifetime sub. And, I think it should be offered. Not everyone is going to pay that kind of money, plus you can always help the devs by buying in-game items, etc. Yeah, there are a lot of subscribers now, but you had to commit to a subscription to even get the ability to play the game--even though you bought it and got 30 days "free". Who knows how many people will actually stick with the game come the end of January. $15/month is nearly double the price for a Netflix subscription. Also, stating that a successful MMO wouldn't have a lifetime option is a little silly considering that we don't have a very good benchmark. In the grand scheme of video games, there are few MMOs (And most are quite homogenous) compared to general console releases --it takes a lot of work and promotion to create an MMO. So, it's hard to have a hit MMO with so much material out there grabbing a gamer's attention. Why play the same game for months on end when you can check out the new release from Sony, EA, etc? I love STO too and paid for lifetime subscription as well, but this game, like STO will only have so much life in it once the main stories have been played through. The monotony of engaging in the same kind of battles over and over becomes grating, and then it's time to play the latest Xbox game.
Vegetian
Lucas would never authorize a lifetime sub...not only does it clearly hurt the game (economically), but he also loves his money too much. I would except Arnold to be elected governor of California again before lucas gives the green light for lifetime subs for tor. Ok so yea maybe Lucas isn't calling the shots on the board...but he does authorize the license..thus if they start offering or contemplate it, he can threaten to pull it. Therefore..he is the man. Kalfear
No, if they announce lifetime subs; many players, including myself will be cancelling immediately, as lifetime subs are never offered by successful MMOs I, for the first time ever took a chance and subed fopr 6 months in TOR But your right, if they offered a LT sub, Id play out those 6 months and cancel on the spot Life Time subs are a sign of financial ruin going to B2P or F2P models in the near future (as STO did). I have absolutely no issue paying a developer for a great game, for as long as I play the game. If you were to ask the OP what he thinks is fair I bet he replies with $150.00- $199.00 for the lifetime sub. About the only way I wouldnt vacate a game thats offering a LT sub is if that sub costed the FULL PRICE of 3 years. So in TOR case, $15.00x36 = $540.00 Price Tag. I doubt many would take advantage of it but a developer saying they think they can make you happy and content for 3 years tells me they dedicated to the franchise and game. Someone offering a LT for $150.00-$250.00 tells me they have no faith in game long term and just trying for a quick cash grab before admitting publically. What is the measure of MMO success? Specifically, is Lord of the Rings Online a successful MMO? It offered a lifetime subscription option when it launched. yeah its really NOT Edited December 24, 2011 by Kalfear
