Nemarus
Welcome to joystick QQ thread number three hundred and ninety four. Here at GSF forums we take pride in making sure all of our joystick threads are the same and completely interchangeable. Well, to be fair, if he'd added a reply to an existing Joystick thread, he'd have been yelled at for necroing. And while I certainly am fine with the current control scheme, the fact that so many continue to ask for joystick support indicates there is a population that is interested in GSF but is blocked by dislike for its control scheme. And that should be interesting data for BioWare to consider. That being said, I also think a fair number of people try out GSF, don't do well, and immediately assume that if they had a joystick they'd do much better. They don't realize that the game takes practice and time to get good at, regardless of control scheme. So even if BioWare did add joystick support, it's uncertain how many new people that tried GSF would stick with it.
General_Brass
Still no flight controller support... much shame upon you. LOL yes because we need yet another way for a few people to have an advantage. Oh Before you go all joystick envy I have a logitech 3D pro myself.

Oh Before you go all joystick envy I have a logitech 3D pro myself. Why do you assume that joysticks would be superior to mouse control and aiming? It might bring people into GSF, and it might make those people better just because they're more familiar with using joysticks, but fine control given the current lead indicator setup is going to be a lot better with a mouse. SammyGStatus
Bought a Saitek X52 Joystick for SC, and kinda wanna use it for SWTOR... But the fact that it won't be nearly as accurate makes that desire pointless :/ If you want to use a joystick, play SC or Elite Dangerous... IL-2 for a WWII Flight Sim also! Well I am pretty damn certain if the implementation were even close to being competently done it would be superior. My joystick has more buttons/controls that are far more optimal for flying a craft than any mouse/keyboard combo I have ever seen. Just off the the top of my head I can bind the power settings to the hat, the 1-4 to the buttons on top of the hat, the two fire buttons to the sticks fire buttons, throttle to the analog throttle and strafing etc to the spare buttons on the base by the throttle. The control that matters is aim, and a mouse is MUCH better. The limited number of hotkeys and the simplicity of the throttle system for GSF means that more physical buttons don't really do much. Xbox live was originally supposed to integrated PC and console gamers - why didn't it? Because the PC FPS players destroyed the controller FPS players. The xbox controller is really a piece of crap compared to a good set of flightsim controls. You are comparing something that looks like it came from fisher price to controls modeled on the actual systems used in life or death situations. The point remains - you will be able to click the lead indicator more precisely and much quicker with a mouse than a stick of any kind. Developing joystick controls for GSF may be good for population growth, but let's not pretend that it's going to make joystick users the new uber players. Highborne
Still no flight controller support... much shame upon you. Oh, QQ more. I'm doing damn well stuck on the wrong end of Australian lag (400ms on a -good- day). So if you're doing poorly, don't blame the fact you have to use a mouse. Slinktress
Gaming mice (good laser ones) are as little as $10-12. You can program your F1-F3 on mouse buttons, no problem. Joysticks are for console games and made for complicated combo effects, heaven forbid they jump the learning curve even further by introducing combo effects GSF still beats the List view and right click dorkery I suffered in EVE all those years I can fly and 180 and barrel roll! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Verain
I'm up to four friends who stopped being interested the moment I told them there was no joystick support. The game would be better with it, but it's obvious it won't get added. The reticule system could work- excellently- with a joystick that controls the ship pitch and yaw with no input lag, whilst the mouse controls the aiming cursor. Odds of that? Zero. This is the Thrustmaster Warthog. http://simhq.com/_technology3/images/technology_174a_001.jpg They manufacture it under license from the U.S.A.F. it's a replica of the A-10 control system and no it doesn't have a version for PS-anything or XBox-whatever. Edit:And yes that will give you an advantage over a mouse. Also, in case you didn't realize it, it costs considerably more than the consoles. Magira
I do not understand the problem. Of course, it is possible to use a joystick or a gamepad. There are enough programs that emulate the mouse and the keyboard on a joystick. Here for example: http://joytokey.net/en/ Do I immediately try ...
