bigbobsr
I have several mastered ships, I have maxed level my characters..............so, now what??? Why continue to paly GSF if I can't spend the points I get or get any more XP for matches? No more practical reason to play GSF. (Except for earning credits and bragging rights.) There needs to be a way to spend the SR & FR points on other things. Transfer X amount per month to another character. Rate of exchange for Cartel Market coins. Rate of exchange for in game credits to spend on your character(s). Something................. Just brain storming here, any thoughts? Bob................. Focus on becoming known on your server, or try your luck on another server. Quality and style of competition can vary widely. If you already are one of the better pilots, branch out into one of the ships or components you haven't mastered, even if they aren't initially appealing. Do dailies and weeklies and save up tokens for when the new ships come out in 2.8. Or, at the end of the day, go play something else for a while. It's allowed. Loc_n_lol
Buy a t2 gunship, outfit it with interdiction drive and both torpedoes. Now master it.

It's not the best of ideas. What happens is the economy generally tends to get skewed in favor of whatever group decides to control the exchange rate (unless it's fixed, and then it simply gets gamed by gold farmers). It's not something I would support as a result. If I need more of a certain currency, I'll procure it. Besides, you know all the ships aren't released yet, right? We still get cloakers, and there's some T3 heavies in the pipeline. -bp

havokhead
I wish they'd attach hyperspace armada/first mobile fleet rep grind to GSF, some of their rewards are cool & aren't we still part if the fleet being fighter pilots? We shouldn't have to grind out the heroic space missions in a freighter. I'd love to see some exclusive ship skins , colour modules, reactants etc etc from this as well
Icebergy
I know! Bear with me for a second because this is a radical concept. You can play for... wait for it... ...to have fun.
RebekahWSD
+1 Why play any game if not to have fun? Thank you! I know it's kind of a foreign concept now, but there was a time when the carrot in video games was the fact you were playing a game.
Luneward
What the above people said. Though until your ship is 100% complete, you aren't done yet! /ocd off. That being said a lot of ships play very differently if you use a different set of components. I personally think the dual torpedo gunship is a hoot to play. Sure a hoot that gives you a big bullseye on you, but still a hoot!
DamascusAdontise
There are achievements for GSF, I know a few people who work on those. Gives them a reason to play both sides / different ships / different playstyles. If those don't tickle your fancy hold onto your pants until the next update, they have announced fleet commendations for boxes of mats that you can sell (though there is chance involved so its kind of like gambling) I hope that they plan on adding to this system, once the fleet commendations vendor is updated I think they will (hopefully) At any rate I agree with you, playing for enjoyment is good. You cannot deny though that it would be nice to have some other rewards, and I believe it would motivate people to queue more games (myself included) Fun play can be short, grind play is not however (and a little grind reward wouldn't hurt this game at all)

Ramalina
This has never been true for RPGs though, which is the game model MMOs came from. Whether you're talking about computer RPGs or tabletop RPGs this really depends on who is designing/GMing the game. You can have loot centric play where your character eventually dies by being crushed by all the bling, but you can also have gameplay where loot is moderate to rare and tends not to stick around very long. The reason that loot grinds are so common is that it's a measure of progress that's easy to implement and measure. Compelling gameplay without a loot treadmill is more work and more difficult to do, but done well I think it tends to be more rewarding.
RebekahWSD
This has never been true for RPGs though, which is the game model MMOs came from. I would argue that, while part of an MMO, character advancement is not GSF's core engagement. GSF is much more patterned after team based shooters. ForceChuckle
@Luneward @Loc_n_lol It's good to meet other DustTorp/CometTorp enthusiasts. Being able to chain lock 10-11K is very satisfying indeed. @OP Playing to have fun is really where it's at but I can see your frustration. Many of us on the Bastion have branched out to other servers to play with the wider GSF community. While not having a legacy req system isn't ideal I just don't see Bioware changing it any time soon. They should probably roll out more skins for existing ship types. Edited May 27, 2014 by ForceChuckle include more posters in response
