Reno_Tarshil
The "real" word-on-the-street from last week here in Vancouver is NO plans for new SPECIES (not races, they were very adamant about that wording) in the near future. Yes, Cathar was a great success, but as of now there are no new species in the works. I really don't get why people post bad information without any kind of proof. It just makes them look stupid. To cause trouble.
RickShan
This would break the story on Voss. Voss Jedi Knight tries to convince the Voss that the Jedi will gladly accept them. Does that sound slightly broken to you? I (hope) doubt this is real. OP, why don't you provide source? Just trolling, then? From what I've seen recently in this General (trolls) Discussion forum, very few people actually care about story and it's mostly filled with PVPtards trying to ruin one good story based MMO... What makes them look like total morons, though, is derailing their thread in their own OP. Can we even be sure that the OP says what it did when the thread was opened? It certainly wouldn't be the first time that it's not. Thanks for the tip though, and I can understand why they're pretty adamant about Species instead of race. Race would be an offshoot of the same species, such as, simply for example, Japanese and Chinese. Meanwhile, Cathar and Human would be completely different. Never_Hesitate
Sigh I tried to give you a valid chance to provide a source so we could discuss this, but once again you've turned your own thread into a mess. Here is the "proof" for a playable sarlacc Can we now discuss how awesome it would be to play a sarlacc?

DarthTHC
That's a single instance though. The case he pointed out is a whole freaking planet(!!!). Regardless, at this point I most doubt people care... The hardcore lore zealots jumped ship long ago, I reckon. It's not any worse than Ewoks in this timeframe. Yeah, yeah, they made up some garbage backstory. If it were ONE Ewok, maybe. But it seems like every time I go to fleet, there are dozens of the tasty little furballs just waiting to be skewered with a spit, slathered in BBQ sauce, and rotated ever so slowly over an open fire. eldefail
Which is a really big shame. For me SWTORs biggest flaw was always the lack of interesting racial choices. Interesting doesn't necessarily have to be opposed to "attractive" or "appealing", though. I don't see Kel Dor ever making in as a playable species, but I do see Nautolan, or Bothan, or other species that are both interesting and unique appearance-wise, but still aesthetically pleasing. Plus, as you mentioned, there are technical reasons (limitations?) that cause the devs to prefer humanoid critters. And it was a huge, HUGE disappointment that a game with so many interesting and strange races in the available lore decided to go down the "differently coloured humans" route. Weequay, Nikto... all that would've been great. I would've loved to be able to play an Ithorian... maybe a Selkath, a Quarren. Hell, even a Gungan would be more interesting than what they have. -_- I think a lot of people feel this way, myself included. The issue for species that can't or don't speak basic is that suddenly the player character is the special snowflake who DOES not only speak basic, but does so flawlessly and fluently despite possible biological impediments that favor their native tongue. It's either that, or stick in the generic race appropriate voice files for huttese--you know, the same 5 or 6 lines repeated over and over and over again for literally everything by every Rodian, Nikto, and almost every Twi'lek NPC in the game. Players would get insanely bored with it and complain incessantly. It would likely even put a damper on cartel market purchases for their respective race unlocks. We don't have non-humanoid playable races for this reason. Technical limitations and the average player attention span preclude races like Ithorians and Selkath. TUXs
Wether or not they implement it, or where I may or may not have received info is irrelevant... The question is Who wants it? Not me. I got nothing against it being added, but a new race doesn't change ANYTHING for me. The quests are all still exactly the same...that's as cosmetic as it gets - I don't get all giddy when they announce new armor in the CM, this of the same vanity imo. DarthTHC
I couldn't care less if they added or never added a new species. I won't pay the 1800 cartel coins for one, no matter what species it is.

Styxx
Given the number of felines I see every day as I play, it seems like a whole lot of players enjoy being... erm, as you so tactfully phrased it... pissed on. Surprisingly enough, all I`ve talked to ingame actually like Cathar more than Togruta and would like Voss more. But the forum poll says otherwise. Might be just novelty, might be because they are all secretly warm and fuzzy on the inside, I don`t know. While I do appreciate that at least SOME got their wish, we have only humanoids + cats and dogs + twis. I`d like one more alien like species that is the NUMBER ONE asked thing and not one more humanoid, thank you. Not even creative, since we already have blue humanoids as Chiss and red ones as Sith, or bald / white as Rattataki so Voss won`t bring anything new. Wylf
But the forum poll says otherwise. Thats because the forum community is never representative of a games actual community. Only a small part of a games community actually uses the forums - and from this small part of the community only a small part actually goes to vote on such polls. There was also a Twitter poll issued by Bioware - I linked for it a while back, I`ll try to dig it up again. And it won`t kill them to poll INGAME, would it? If they truly want to give the species the players want and not gain artistic points, that is. [EDIT] http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=555544 Scroll to 13 November. As for voting, they asked a planet vote around that time, too, then we ended up with Makeb. And Makeb was NEVER a top 10. http://torwars.com/bioware-wants-feedback-new-planets-and-improvements-to-ui-customization/ http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=4229478#edit4229478 Edited May 20, 2014 by Styxx
EranofArcadia
On a largely unrelated note, is there a list or guide somewhere that says how much of the backstory in the game comes from pre-existing lore, and how much was made up by Bioware (in this or the KoTOR games)? I totally would. OP, as for Voss, I wouldn't play one, I don't particularly like the story on Voss, the Voss people, or anything Voss. But others have been asking for it, so if it were to hypothetically ever enter the game as playable it wouldn't affect me at all. Devaronian on the other hand... For example a poll would list Yoda species or wookies as possible player race. Even though these would NEVER make it into the game. Thus BW would be ignoring the wishes of the community and giving them a huge finger with a slap in the face by not doing what the poll says. As for planets they never said it was going to be the "next" planet, they could have makeb 75% complete (not even on the list) and offer a poll on "possible planets" when makeb is released again middle finger and a slap up the head while urinating all over the community
