How Do I Disable Red Text During Combat?

Recommended Posts

I'm sick of all the red text filling my screen with things I know about, such as:

Not ready yet.

You are not close enough etc.

Most of the time I am fully aware of this, I'm usually just spamming the button because it's due of cooldown, or I'm running in and will be close enough very soon.

I've tried disabling all flytexts, but these still show.

Any advice?

Cheers.

You can't. Community has been asking about giving us the ability to but Bioware on several occasions have said no. They said "It has important information about fight mechanics" or some such thing. It's complete BS. Edited by Toweleeeie

If you know about it why do you keep spamming the same button?

In the preferences options you can set a window of time to queue your abilities (think it's from 0.5 secs down to 0 in 0.5 sec increments) maybe alter that so you don't have to spam so much.

In my experience, if you know your abilities, their rotation and have moderate manoeuvring skills, Red text really isn't an issue.

what red text?

oh the text that tells me "target not in range" when trying to heal someone accross the map. "Must be behind a target" when trying to BACK stab? "The Skill not ready" when spamming a 1minute cooldown? The not enough focus/energy after awesomely epic 11111111 rotation?

Its there for a reason, if you stop doing what it says to stop doing it magically goes away.

no current way.

I don't have this issue on my ranged classes but I have serious issues with my melee characters. It is even worse when my latency starts going nuts.

Thanks dude,

was a bunch of a**holes, if they don't want to remove it, they should at least let us customise it (text size and location on screen) in the interface editor.

Thanks again though.

Sadly a lot of this game was designed poorly, this is one of the aspects the devs have admitted was a poor design choice as they can't remove one type of text without removing all pop up text.

Sadly you can't.

It's one of my pet peeves since I record videos with the UI turned off for better immersion, but I still can't get rid of that red text. :(

Hmm, that is strange, when I film (god, let the finals end so I can get back to it), I disable the UI with Alt+Z, and it hides the red text as well.

A few people seemed to have missed my point here,

but to those that have answered the questioned asked, thanks again.

Explained further, this isn't during any rotation, or on long cooldowns etc, nor is it on main abilities. It's very situtational. And in many cases it's on abilities and utilities that are off the global cooldown.

I have cooldown text enabled, so I can see clearly when I have just a fraction of a second left before I can use it.

For example,

if I'm getting burned, and need to use a medpak / wz adrenal, that's got less than a second left on cooldown, then that button(s) is getting pounded.

Pulling an enemy healer in, I want to grab him with the most distance between me and him, so I start hitting the button from out of range repeatedly, as soon as I get in range, I've pulled him.

If I go to Maul somebody, but they move around, I know it won't work because I can see what's happening, I don't want big red text "you need to be behind to use this" blocking my vision for several seconds in critical moments.

Thanks anyway, you're dead right about knowing rotations, and I do just "feel" my cooldowns, but in some cases, repeatedly hitting a button until it's in range, or off cooldown, has it's benefits. I only wanted to get rid of the silly red text.

Cheers.

I absolutely HATE playing melee classes in this game because of the inevitable god-awful red text spam such as:

1) Not Ready yet

2) You must be behind the target (I am!!)

3) Cannot see target (he is standing right in front of me!!)

4) Out of range

No 1 and 4 make my life absolutely miserable and 2 and 3 are more often than not bugs, but either way Bioware have made it absolutely clear that they have no intention of ever fixing this no matter how much the player base hate it... so I jsut have to suck it up and avoid melee classes

I think I've been asking for this since launch.

Buttons get mashed - I do it even more when my ping gets worse - and the center of the screen gets flooded with... 'non-info'.

SO PLEASE Bioware: if all else fails: hardcode a flag.

If there is totally crucial information: make that an Enum... (RANGE_ERROR, TARGET_ORIENTATION, PLAYER_POSITION, ...) and leave the "important information" as is.

OR: put it in the options: "If you disable this, you will not see quest status updates anymore. Be aware that you might miss important information if you turn the onscreen text off!"

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

Error text must go away!

See how anoying that is?

What is so unbelievably hard to understand about "other people do things differently"? Where does this "well for me this doesn't matter, so it doesn't" attitude come from?

Well, if you are a button-mashers and/or have bad latency and play a melee... this text ist the most experience breaking thing... it's really REALLY anoying!

How about this then: The red text is the game punishing you for flooding the server with useless commands. Every time you see red text, the server needed to accept, process, validate, then error-handle your request. The red text is there to get you to stop abusing the server out of impatience and lack-of-skill.

What do you think the server thinks about it? You're sending a dozen commands a second, knowing that no more than a couple could even possibly have outcomes. How would you feel if I stood over your shoulder asking you a dozen questions a second --even simple questions like "What is the second character in 'badger'?" Why do you think its fair for you to play in a way that loads the server as much as six normal players and demand that the developers make changes to the client so that its less annoying for you?

And in full disclosure: I play a melee character. About eight of them, I believe. And I probably have just as many ranged. I don't remember ever seeing red text of the level you report. And I even have a shadow and assassin who both deal with the stun-orientation bug where they are forced to hunt for their target's "back".

I know it will never happen, but I'd actually smile if the game enforced command quotas: You can send in ten ability activations in 5 seconds. Go beyond that and the server/client starts throttling you to an even slower level for the next 5 seconds. I wonder how much smoother Warzones and Ops would be without button mashers sending in a hundred commands in the period of time where I and others who have an intuitive feel for timings send in just ten.

how about a kick and flag for bot/macro investigation :)

I play mostly melee. In fact I only have one Sorcerer, Sage, Commando, Merc, Gunslinger and Sniper. I have two Shadows and at least one of every other melee AC. Two Operatives, or should I say one Operative and one soon-to-be-Operative.

How cute... to actually think that button mashing has any kind of serious effect on server performance... :D Just cute.

Now, since you actually went ahead and pulled the 'skill' card: /closed. There is no argueing with the obviously more skilled ones. I humbly apologize and bow to your argumentation and justified condescending tone towards us inferior players. We n00bz should just go and L2P and get some skillz to even hope to pwn someone who really knows thow to play, spec, gear and own. Yep. Good thing that no one should do it differently...

because... you know... button mashing by hundreds of players is like a DDOS on the servers! If everyone in the fleet jumps three times in one second, it crashes!

Also:

Floating text - red or otherwise - is disturbing. In MY opinion.

You should also think about what it does to switches on your keyboard. You're a gamer, right?

That's one thing I liked about WoW. No text spam, just a Gnome telling me "That spell is not ready yet. I can't do that yet. I am too far away." After awhile though, it would get annoying and make me wish I had text I could just ignore. Now I just keep my action bar in view and watch my LoS on ranged.

O_o you know you can turn that audio off. (in wow) - it's in the settings even.

And the error text. (dunno, if you'd still need an addon...)

You can EVEN disable the error-sound that some items make via macro.

I didn't mind it, I just tuned it out. Not really an issue these days since I had all 3 accounts permanently deleted.
