Star Wars 1313 Abandoned by Disney

We knew Star Wars 1313 was dead when they closed LucasArts and laid off all developers. Theoretically, they could have continued the project, but hiring a new team that has to read into the project would have been too cost intensive.

Therefore, not really much in the way of news, not sure why IGN is publishing it now.

Because the trademark was abandoned on december 23rd 2013, thus making it final.

Before then there was always the hope that it might have been resurrected.

Did nobody look at the video at all?

Disney announced shortly after they bought Lucasfilm that they were pulling the plug on Star Wars 1313. This IGN report has to do with not renewing the trademark. Trademarks are for set periods of time and have renewal dates. There was no need for them to take any action on the trademark until it was due to be renewed. So IGN is just reporting that a few weeks ago the trademark expired and Disney didn't renew it. Not sure why they even bother to "report" that as it doesn't really reflect any action or comment by Disney about SW 1313....it's simply the logical result of them pulling the plug on the game awhile back.

Thank you for the through response. My apologies for waisting everyone's time.

It's a rediculous move from Disney though.

Many people where exited about this game, finally a more mature and less childish game in the star wars setting. Something fresh and original and they axed it.

They really don't want money it seems, all we get in recent years is lame clone wars games, lego games and angry birds star wars.

Seems like TOR is still the last descent star wars game to be released, and probably will be the last descent one for a long time.

They axed it because they're getting rid of Expanded Universe to make story room for the new movies coming out.

Actually it is a very wise move on Disneys part.

1313 was supposed to be about boba fett climbing the ranks and getting to be the bounty hunter we know and love (well some).

There is going to be a new movie about Boba Fett and rumor has it that it's not even going to put him as a clone of jango fett (since Kasdan never liked that concept and he is head writer on the project), so having a computer game out that could possibly contradict that movie was a big no-no.

Of course, what will be in the movie is just rumors, but the movie is definately coming.

So pulling the plug on that game makes perfect sense from Disneys standpoint.

Yes I did, but like JimG said, the game was dead for a long while. Whether or not they are renewing the trademark has nothing to do with the game. If they wanted to relaunch the game, they could still trademark it again or publish it under a different title.

And I like I wrote, you can't just resurrect a game when all of the developers are gone, it is just not viable. Just because the files are still in the computer doesn't mean you can just give them to a whole new team and let them finish it, it would be easier to just create a new game.

I was already very excited for Star Wars 1313, the game looked promising and it was nice to meet the lead developer at Celebration 6. Therefore, I was very sad to hear about all the developers being gone from LucasArts a year ago, but now I've gotten over it and couldn't care less for any news about this game anymore.
