Modifiable Earpieces and Implants

I'm not so sure about that. I kinda like the idea, but I suspect the reason they're not in game is to maintain the very thin appeal of any crew skills other than cybertech, biochem, and MAYBE artifice and armstech. And the latter 2 are pretty sketchy since you really only need one or 2 barrels or hilts unless you're fanatically trying to gear up every companion. And even then, it's likely easier to simply use extra coms to get the weapon with the barrel or hilt you want.

 

Realistically, the crew skill system needs a dramatic overhaul. There are systems in place that are primarily just a legacy of an earlier vision of how the gear would work (legacy gear, anyone?). Until they do an overhaul and give us a solid, single vision of gearing from level 1 to whatever the max is at that time, I have a feeling we're going to be chasing fixed accessory items.

Mmm...

 

As a whole I like the idea that any gear item a character may use could be adaptable, currently relics, implants and ear pieces can be upgraded to bear augments, so why not go the full route and make these last three items fully modable, perhaps in the same manner than wrists and waist were done...

I'd have to take a look at the numbers, but I think that the level of improvement on current Earpieces is probably too much more or too much less than the purple mods levels of improvements that you'd be able to drop into the Earpiece.

 

It seems like a great idea though, they should figure a way to make this work.
