Gearing Question: Leveling to 55 Via PvP

Hey there.

I'm tired of leveling the alts normal way and PvP is what I do at endgame anyway, so I thought I may as well just level my characters through PvP. Problem is when I hit 55 with these characters in level 30 greens I don't think it is going to be plausible to gear them up enough to start farming for the Part/Conq gear.

Is it possible to level and gear a character to 55, and then start PvPing in the 55 bracket without doing anything other than PvP? I don't have a lot of credits and I don't think the bolster that is present in the 55 bracket is as lenient as the one in the prior brackets.

It's absolutely possible to lvl up to 55 through PVP. From doing it myself I've concluded that the xp isn't as stable as that from PVE where you can pretty much guarantee the amount of XP you're going to get every hour and I don't get anywhere near as many credits from PVP as I do from PVE. However, you will get plenty of PVP commendations which you can convert to planetary commendations and get moddable gear and mods from the vendors (And 55 gear from PVP vendors with PVP comms), thus completely negating the credit deficit in regards to gear. Skills can be a problem sometimes though if, like me, you spend all your credits of useless things that make your characters look pretty...

Summary:

- You can lvl to 55 through PVP

- Gear is not a problem because of commendations

- Don't let vanity get the best of you and spend all your credits on shiny things...

Awesome, do you recommend updating gear with mods at certain level intervals? What level of gear is it okay to enter the 55 bracket with? I suppose that is my biggest concern. I don't wanna drag people down at 55 but I really don't want to have to PvE the last 5 levels to collect quest gear either.

It's going to take some time to reach 55 through warzones only. I had 182 games on one char between lvl 10 and lvl 50 and I did a fair amount of PvE on that one too so I wouldnt be surprised if you could double it. That's going to bring you close to 2.4, meaning that it would be stupid to blow your saved comms on Partisan (Conq will replace Partisan in 2.4, same prices, and you're going to need the Conq shells for the next tier, Obroan).

I wouldnt worry too much about gear while leveling through warzones. As long as your mods arent +10 levels old you're going to be fine but try to keep them within 5. Bolster is so messed up that even if you stack main on fresh mods you might have more end than main in warzones anway O_o Upgrade based on your progression. If you notice early that you will cap out prior to valor 40 you might as well blow some on planetary comms. You should cap out again around lvl 45, if not sooner, and after that it's just a matter of updattng through planetry until you reach 55. I guess you could do the weapon trick when closing in on 55, that will boost your comms a bit. Get some blue lvl 53 gear from GTN if you're worried about entering in rakata.

You can purchase level 20 and level 40 "pvp" (no expertise, just normal pve gear) gear that have blue mods in them with warzone commedations (purchased on Coruscant or Dromund Kass in the main city square areas). Start buying the lvl 20 stuff immediately, and then move on to the lvl 40 gear (there are no level requirements to purchase, the level requirements are only to wear it). Once you get all the gear, you can either start buying pvp medpacks and adrenals or do the purchase pvp weapons and refresh trick until you hit lvl 40 (buy a pvp weapon with warzone coms, then sell it back before the 2 hour binding time and buy it again). At lvl 40 (I'm assuming your valor lvl is 40 also, if not, get it to 40), then start converting wz coms to ranked coms until you're maxed out. Then go back to purchasing pvp adrenals/medpacks or refreshing pvp weapons. I wouldn't bother converting wz coms to planet coms. Seems like a waste.

Updating gear is only necessary if you want to advance your storyline. I typically pvp until I'm a bit overleveled, and then continue my class storyline only. That way, I get more companions and can send them on crafting missions, not to mention also getting class buff once you finish chapter 2.
