Quickbars and UI's are very subjective and what one person may prefer may seem idiotic to the second.

Still, there are a few tips and Taugrim is generally referred to

http://taugrim.com/2011/04/07/guide-to-strafing-movement-and-keybindings/

Do you have a mouse or keyboard with extra buttons, I have upgraded from a basic 3 button mouse to a G400 with total 8 and using ctrl, alt, shift modifiers I was able to put most of my utility (stuns, interrupts) on the mouse and it cost me about £20.

It also depends which spec you are running, I like to put my spam to 1 (Disturbance in TK, TKT in Balance) and then go up depending on how often I use said ability but for healing I hardly touch my 1 which is benevolence.

F keys can also be useful unless you use them for their default switching between group members.

Hey dudes and dudesses !

Keybindings is a very tricky thing ! I can't even explain and prove why it's the better way to play when I see clicker guildmates play very properly and with enough reactivity to GCD :p

What I can say :

I personnally use WASDQE (I'm on an AZERTY keyboard, I'll try to write for QWERTY) for movement. I kept Q and E to be able to have one free hand to smoke (I SEE YOU COMING GUYS, DON'T DO THIS !) and drink coffee etc... I'm now used to play like this. Spam spells (actually DPS rotation or heals) are on 1-5, def spells are on Alt+1-4, other things on shift+1-4. Important spells not under a big CD are on RFTGZXCV like decurse, interrupt, R is the big AoE (TW, FiB, or big AoE heal), etc...

I use TAB a lot for targeting but I can also target with mouse when i must focus something that isn't in the melee and isn't easily tabable. I also have F1-F4 for group targeting (very great for heal, I don't need the mouse in PvE ! BUT DON'T DO THAT AT HOME ! Keep using mouse please !).

What else... Yes, I have a Logitech Mx518 (actually it's less than 10€), so important bindings are on it. I binded the auto-run (here you see, one hand free), but others are like 4sec stun, the big CC that mustn't be broken the knockback wave that moves on shift+2 on heal spec, etc...

I think you understood the idea, if you want more precise things, just ask and I'll try to. As said just upstair, the keybinding can't be on a guide because it's very very personal. You guys can come and tell me "using Q and E for movement isn't opti, blabla, that won't make me change. I must come from me, and if changing there is, i'd come from me :)

I personnally bind ~15 buttons at level 1, and I fill them level by levels, then I add things if necessary, etc... Playing and leveling with them makes your muscle memory perfect, and if something isn't at its place, you can change and 2 more levels will be OK :)

Good luck, read the paper posted by 'first' dude, and do it how you like it :)

I'll fill in in case you were asking for ui looks.

Same story as above though, it is personal but I can tell you my ui for dps and heal.

DPS

I have 2 bars at the bottom stacked. They're a bit smaller than normal. I think their scale is like 0.85.

These bars contain all my attacks, stuns, stun breaks, interrupt etc.

Above those 2 bars is another quickbar with 2 rows of 6. This one is scale 1 and has some clickables. I usually have stims, clicky relics, agro drop, pull and my cc on there.

Heal

The 2 bars at the bottom now have 6 rows of 2 blocks each. They are bit moved away from each other to make some space. In between those bars are 3 things. The clicky bar I mentioned in the dps section. But this time as low as possible. My cast bar above it and then the ops frame. I'm always healing using the ops frame. This way I have it in the center of the screen. I made interfaces for 8m, 16m, and 24m. I usually run 8m. Then I have an ops frame containing just 2 groups. That way I keep my quickbars closer to the screen's center.

Both

All my interfaces share one thing similar. On top of the screen I have a bar with scale 0.9. It contains skills like my class buff, quick travel, fleet pass, speeder, my heal and 4 skill spots which I I have bound to the 2 extra buttons I have on my mouse. (Normal click and shift click).

I didn't talk about UI, I'll fix it :)

I chose to clear the top side of the screen (more distance in sight).

The bottom is like this (left to right)

- chat box, group / OP windows on the top of the chat

- 2 superposed binded bars (important spells) / my life, mana, buffs window

- 1 binded bar (CDs, pots, ...) on top of 1 non-binded bar (TPs, mount, sprint, legacy spells, buffs) / target's window

- map. (quests are displayed on the top right corner, and I hide them for the action.

The cast bars : mine is just under my feet (with regular camera angle), my target's is just under mine.

The painful absence of macros (cast @focus, cast @mouseover) made be abandon the focus window, but it was just on the left of my cast bar. I can understand the macros are difficult to handle when developping and balancing a game, but please, let us just the mouseover, focus and stopcast macros ! Please please please :D

Keybinding is SOOOO subjective. It all depends on what is comfortable for you.

For years I used two bars (in any MMO) and mapped the numpad keys to the second bar. My practice was to map "instant" abilities to the numpad because I feel more comfortable using it while moving. Since I PvP a lot, I tend to favor instant casts that can be used while moving over casts that require me to stand still for 1 or more seconds. Then my favorite channeled and long casts are on the first bar mapped to 1 through =. I then use my G1 - G6 keys for specials like adrenals and "throw the huttball."

But that's just my preference. IMO, the biggest difference maker of all? Learn to use a Razer MMO mouse with the 12 buttons on the side. It takes some getting used to at first, but once you master it you will wonder why you waited to do it. It's a HUGE advantage in PvP because you have 12 abilities you can use without letting go of the mouse or taking your fingers off the WASD movement keys. These are what I used to have on my numpad (or still do, but they are activated by the Razer buttons). That fraction of a second can make all the difference in PvP -- popping a stun or your bubble or a knockback before they get that killing blow in. It's also tough to circle strafe and use abilities if they aren't on your mouse.

That's why many PvP guilds won't even accept people who don't use a Razer or something like it.

Hello guys,

I decided to write this topic because I would like some ideas for making a good quickbar for my sage. Anyone have some tips? Grateful.

I had alot of troubles in the past managing to kite etc effectively. Eventually I tried out a really unorthodox keybind setup.

I strafe left & right with TY

I toggle autorun with 6 & use both mouse button to run/stop as a complement

I've unbound forward & backpeddle

I keep my ring & middle finger on TY and use all my remaining fingers for hotkeys. My thumb is decicated for ALTGR modifier & jumping while the rest let me have over 30 keybind easily accessable. I use a normal mouse with 1 extra button.

This works out great for me but I can see how it' might not be optimal for evryone :)

I hope you find something that works out for you!

After watching one of dulfy's video, I had to change my group and ops frame.

I'm a healer; so, I changed the the height of the health bars and increased the size of the debuff icon.

What I need to find out is how to make all most of the text above players heads go away. I just want to see their name, health and stamina. Seeing the name, on top of legacy title,, on top of guild,,, on top of health is very distracting. I'd be thrilled if there was an easy or automatic option to turn it off when in a battle. This is horrid in 16m
