TL;DR version: More Bind to Legacy armor please, multi-toon accounts should not need to give up their looks to share end game equipment.

Character customization and diversity is down for accounts with multiple end game (max level gear progressing) characters. This is due to the fact that more and more are switching to legacy-bound gear that can be shared with multiple characters.

There are a couple issues with this. First dual wield specs have an advantage since they are able to have a legacy bound offhand whereas all other specs would have to maintain seperate offhands for all characters. The simple solution to this one is to introduce legacy-bound shields, foci, shotguns, and daggers.

The bigger issue is the limited selection of bind to legacy gear. We are limited to a dozen or so sets, mainly at the end of several reputation grinds. This leads to several players abandoning, their prefered look for something more practical for multiple raiding toons.

There are a few ways to alliviate this issue. First the reputation armor for the cartel market sets (BK-0, Elite Regulator, etc.) are BoP instead of BoL like the rest of the reputation vendor armors. Changing them to BoL would open up a few more looks for Legacy bound gearsets.

Next the original legacy sets (Renowned, exalted) are bound to legacy, but the profession restrictions keep them from being used in the most common form of shared-gear toons: mirror classes. removing the profession restrictions would make these 20 sets more useful. Besides the profession restrictions are outdated on them anyway--intended to prevent stuff like jedi in imp uniforms, bounty hunters in jedi robes, and sith in trooper armor, all stuff that is in the game anyway thanks to the cartel market sets.

That brings me to the cartel market, the biggest source of new looks in the game. Adding a bind on legacy option on some or all of the sets, or perhaps making those items reclaimed through collections bound to legacy would vastly improve the options for shared gear sets.

The best option, in my opinion, would be to introduce a consumable, either through the crew skill system as was done with augment kits, or through the cartel market like dyes, that would convert a bound item to a bound to legacy item. This would eliminate the issue of forcing players to choose between a look they like and a gear set that is more useful to them.

Also this would help increase revenue from cartel market sales, as it stands players will be less likely to buy new armor, or packs looking for new armor from the cartel market if they can't use in in their main gear set.

Saw on PTS last night that the upcoming bounty (cartel market) reputation vendor gear is BoP. It would be great if that went BoL before it goes live.

Would be great if "bound" becomes Bound to Legacy instead.

This! This would allow you to log on a needed character and still have a chance of advancing your other characters. Even if you can move the mods, you can't move the actual shell and sometimes that's what you want.

While a lot of us would love this change, I tend to think it is unlikely, as there will always be some items that they do not want us to be able to share across legacys. I think having more items BoL or able to convert armor to BoL is a more reasonable first step.

However I /support this idea anyway.

Expanded Legacy bound gear options would also help minimize the impact of bugs like the one today's patch introduce with rep gear. A wider variety of BoL gear would mean less people would be dependent on the few affected sets.

I certainly think an armour shell or the mods should not become bound when you take the mods out of a non bound item, I find that really frustrating.

There is a danger making too much BOL as you will up simply feeding your new chars with BOL as you level up meaning Loot gear is even less in demand, further flooding the GTN with dropped gear that you cant sell and also further harming the armourtech and synweathing crafts which are already damaged enough with the supply chain of adaptive kits sold on GTN re-sold from the CM.

One idea would to give crafter's the chance to RE from a purple to a Custom BOL item. I think genrally BOL gear should be earned from your achievements and improving your legacy: cool:

Since even in BoL shared gear is limited to same, or very close spec's so I doubt more BoL would impact loot demand much, if at all. With crew skills being able to feed gear to lower level alts, and plentiful planetary comms providing loot sub-50 gearing isn't much of an issue anyway.

Since the introduction of the first BoL orange gear mods have been transferable even after use. There has been a growing trend to use BoL orange gear as a main raiding set to avoid the cost of constantly pulling the mods out with each transfer. All I'm asking for is a greater variety in appearances of the BoL orange gear. I don't particularly care about the source. If there are fears it would harm armortech or synthweaveing, maybe allow them to be the source of the convert to BoL kits suggested in OP or give them schematics for BoL orange gear to sell (this may be harder since currently BoL is really bind to legacy on pickup not bind to legacy on equip).

Completely new BoL armor sets would be nice, bu there are so many great looks available in game now that BoL versions of existing sets would be even better.
