KarmaForce Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 It's pissing me off. I was just about done writing a long CS ticket and just before I was done, the damn game logged me out and I lost what I've been typing the last 20-30 minutes! I'm already pissed because I ran into an obvious issue and had to tell you folks about it. Also, I get pissed off when I get logged out unexpectedly when selling/ buying stuff on the gtn. How about an alarm and big red text saying your about to be logged out instead of putting tiny lettering in a box covered by your current window with no audio signal either
LordArtemis Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I agree that getting logged out for some in game activities can be annoying. Surfing the GTN, I have to do a bit of a short job every once in a while to remain logged in despite the fact I am clicking away on the interface. A quick solution...in most cases when you are engaged in some activity that keeps you standing still in the game, you can move back and forward quickly (short distance) using the WASD keys while working to prevent being logged out...do it every couple of minutes and you will remain logged in.
AceMcVeer Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 You were writing a ticket for 20-30 minutes? That's a lot of time wasted to get a TLDR canned response.
Glumish Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Unless your words per minute is somewhere between 1-5 maybe you're taking too much time on those tickets.
Veluthurk Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Agree with the OP. I have been logged out many times while flipping through the GTN.
chuixupu Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Are you sure this isn't a problem with your ISP? Can't say this ever happens to me or anyone I know.
Scindus Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 It's not an ISP problem, you will get logged for inactivity while browsing the GTN for too long if you do not 1.) Jump or take a step in a direction every few minutes. 2.) Have a crew mission finish and click accept on it , and I think 3.) Speaking in chat. You can actually see the "You are now away from the keyboard." message hit your chat log if you watch for it while browsing GTN and not doing any of the above listed actions. This caused me some headache when I first started playing, and then once I figured out why it was doing it, I just make sure to not let it happen anymore. I assume it does the same thing while writing ( a novel...) in a CS ticket. For sure, both seem kind of ridiculous, since you are obviously, NOT away from the keyboard. -__-
chuixupu Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Ooh, ok, I see what you're saying. Yeah, I think browsing the GTN should count as "activity". Not that it's hard to just move around a little, but I guess some people get reeeally mesmerized by the GTN., <.<
Betadurin Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I've been logged off while working the GTN for a while. Now I click W for a sec and the timer resets.
Selven Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 You don't have to move around to avoid the inactivity. Turning the camera will do the same.
Gren-Aluren Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 It's a poor attempt at preventing macroing or automation.
TechbotAlpha Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) I got logged out for being 'idle'...while in the gosh darn character creator, trying to decide which options I liked best! Dear Dev team; THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Dear GOD! This is bloody elementary Edited August 17, 2013 by TechbotAlpha
Selven Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I got logged out for being 'idle'...while in the gosh darn character creator, trying to decide which options I liked best! Dear Dev team; THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Dear GOD! This is bloody elementary Yeah, this is just about the most frustrating I've come across in this game! I like to take my time while creating a new character, so I found a solution. I go to the appearance kiosk and play around with the options there. Pick my race, hair and so on - then I take a screenie of the choices before logging out to actually making my new char. It's silly I have to do it like this not to be logged out, but for now it's the only way to be fast enough.
MaximusRex Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Yes, so many times I've been at the GTN looking up items and bam I get logged off. So annoying.
Solloby Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) I got logged out for being 'idle'...while in the gosh darn character creator, trying to decide which options I liked best! Dear Dev team; THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Dear GOD! This is bloody elementary I've also had this problem, especially when trying to name the character after I've made them exactly how I want them, only to find the name is already taken and I need to think of another. Depending on how many name attempts I go through (each one given much thought) and how long I spent picking the options I like, it's very easy to get logged out on the character creator. Not cool. LordArtemis Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 The problem appears to be that the system that records idle status does not recognize UI input as activity. The only UI activity that I am aware of that it recognizes is Crafting UI choices and looting (including gathering the loot from missions when your comps return). It would be helpful I think if we could list the actions that are and are not recognized as activity from the idle status system. Here is the preliminary list, add more as you see them. Recognized as activity Movement of any kind (minimum distance applies) Camera movement of any kind Opening the mail UI Retrieving items and/or coin from mail Not recognized as activity Browsing the GTN Placing items for sale Placing items in your bank Mailing items Character creation There may be items in this list that are not listed in the proper area, so if so please let me know so I can make corrections. Also if anyone would be willing to test these items out to confirm they are in the proper categories I would appreciate it. If we can identify the actions that do not trigger the idle system perhaps we can get those triggers applied to other actions in the game to correct this problem. Thanks for your input.
Solloby Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 ^ Camera movement isn't identified as activity as far as I know? As far as I can tell, apart from logging into a server, if you don't enter a character and start moving about you get logged out. I haven't found any kind of activity to prevent you being logged out for inactivity while playing with the character creators or admiring one's characters in the selection screen, but haven't tested if going into and out of the character creator from the selection screen is considered activity or not.
