errant_knight Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I'm on one of the busiest servers and I never had to spend more than a few minutes looking for shady characters and getting 5 info units was trivial. Will it affect anything really? No. But it's indicative of the way the game has gotten increasingly easy since launch and why missions are increasingly shorter and less complicated because some people want everything handed to them. Want something cool? Just buy it, no need to work. Want money? Just spend an hour doing dailies and you're good to go. Need to hunt something? Just use your macrobinoculars and they will show you an exact location. How about a mission/daily area that's designed at the outset to be difficult? It could drop something rarely that cant be obtained elsewhere, require thought, and have extra tough fights. That would be cool. And if it was presented that was from the beginning, people couldn't complain.
Lesaberisa Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Changing the number of shady characters doesn't affect the diffiuclty of the mission, simply how convenient it is to complete. (Speaking only to your specific example that seems to have provoked this topic) Edited August 16, 2013 by Lesaberisa
MaximusRex Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I'm disappointed that people don't know the difference between difficult and annoying.
ELRunninW Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I'm disappointed that people don't know the difference between difficult and annoying. Agree, and they also should really spend more time thinking about what they are about to post. I think posting should be made harder in game. You should have to collect 20 forum bounties on different planets before you can create new thread.
TUXs Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Agreed. Took me 45-1hr last night to run 3 characters through it all...all on Coruscant, all at "prime time" (8pm central)...this event didn't need any tweaks imo.

First it was too hot (ie: hard) NOW.. it's too cold (ie: easy) Next month..nobody will even care.. it will just be routine when the event pops. In other words.. just right. If by difficult.. you mean standling in line waiting your turn for a contrived NPC pop... oh yeah.. that's difficult skillz required there. If by difficult you mean random chance to be the first to gank the same NPC...oh yeah.. random is also a difficult and epeen defining skill. They fixed an obvious flaw in the event sequencing that was causing frustration to a lot of players and which had absolutely nothing to do with the players skills and abilities to do anything other then log in. This NPC is a step event in the mission.. not a world boss. They could have left it as is of course.. but it was clear that it was an unneeded bottle neck in the mission... so them doing something about it is fine by me. Edited August 16, 2013 by Andryah

errant_knight Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) No, I mean that I never had to stand in line, just move my feet around the area instead of having to do nothing. And no, it doesn't matter that much except that, as I said, it's part and parcel of the way no one expects to have to actually DO anything. This is just a trivial example of a general mindset. AlienEyeTX Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I'm disappointed that people don't know the difference between difficult and annoying. ^This. It has nothing to do with difficulty. I mean, unless you consider the challenge of trying to log on when nobody else is around. For the most part, this has not been a problem. But when it was a problem, it was a big one.

But, importantly, I like being able to do stuff.
Inflicktion Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Well I don't think it was made that much easier seeing as it was already very straightforward, but I am disappointed that BW would cave in to the QQ again. I shudder to think of how simplified the Rakghoul event will be when it makes its return. We can't even get events to start spontaneously anymore because people QQ'd so hard about how unfair an unscheduled start is. This community is just. . . Nice to see the trolls who were defending it yesterday bashing this argument today. Do you guys ever log into this game or do you sub to play white knight on the forums?

So by calling it general you acknowledge it is a majority? Then what is your point? would you like BW to cater for you only? Not that I care about how hard or easy the event is, but what is your point?
SlimsPicken Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I'm disappointed that people don't know the difference between difficult and annoying. this. aint noone got time fo dat crap.

errant_knight Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Oh come on! You know exactly what my point is! This is perhaps the easiest rpg I've ever played and getting easier because of the high level of griping about not getting instant results. That was an excellent point about the rakghoul event. It was the best event by far and likely wouldn't be made now.
ELRunninW Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) I think what you consider being easier others consider being less annoying. What has been reduced is the amount of the repetitive tasks that you have to go through to complete a quest. I am not sure that quests have been made actually easier. Nobody is defending the event here btw. Edited August 16, 2013 by ELRunninW
Andryah Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) getting easier because of the high level of griping about not getting instant results. Stop exaggerating. There is PLENTY of high level griping in this forum that is not given instant results of any kind. In fact there is plenty of griping at all levels about the high level gripes being ignored. The forum on any given day is ~70% griping for results and a large majority of it is not given any gratification (instant or otherwise). The bottlenecking caused at different times and locations in the game over this NPC.. was nothing skill related at all.. it was simply a QoL adjustment (exactly the same effect as instancing.. to alleviate crowding). If you cannot see that this adjustment was a QoL type of adjustment.. then I don't know what to tell you. Edited August 16, 2013 by Andryah
Tatanka Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 There is only one group of people that should have any issue with this change... the Voss. All of those extra shady offworld characters showing up more often has to be raising some Voss blood pressures someplace.

I personally think the OP just wanted to gripe. give us a difficult encounter on the targets...now that takes skill to execute. Standing in line? hmm...no difficulty there. imagine if this were a movie...then i guess the quality of the movie would be determined by how long you had to stand in line to get the tickets? No thank you. I'm glad they made this change. If they actually wanted to make it more interesting, then they should give us a puzzle to solve. or clues (real clues, not just a quest objective saying "you found a clue") now that stuff is interesting. but waiting in line spam clicking for an NPC and then dying because your lvl25 and the player who won the spam clicking event was 55...I'll pass.

I agree completely. They could add some challenge to the actual objectives. Maybe try not highlighting the objective on the map. Or give the option of a higher reward if we want to take that kind of challenge. They could highlight 3 or 4 possible targets for the bounty... you pick one and kill or capture... then when you go back to your contact, maybe they tell you that you got the wrong guy. They could do all sorts of stuff with that!

Yeah, I was hoping we would get a clue from one guy on one planet, and then travel around hunting for the next guy and then the next until we got our target. alas, we got a handful of shady characters standing in a sewing circle.

On the surface level.. I would agree with you. However, since it is a recurring event monthly now.. how exactly would this make it interesting after the first mission? Besides.. it does not make it more challenging as people will just go to Dulfy.net and pick up the cliff notes anyway. and I mean no disrespect to Dulfy at all.. because she is just plain awesome for all that she does for the community.
