Planetary Control:

Star Wars: Galaxies had many pvp areas on the planets. Usually 3 areas on the planet where rebels and imperials could control 3-5 computer terminals/stations/antennas thus controlling the facility. Once all 3 areas were controlled the planet was under that faction's control.

The more planetary control a faction had the greater the valor/xp/legacy xp received that day/week/month. This directed areas for wide open pvp from both sides. Each side had a chance to take control and/or steal control away. Community as a whole participated because of the xp rewards it boosted.

Open World PvP Area:

SWG had a city on Rori called Restus. It wasn't a very active city, let alone planet. To bring in more interest into the planet, the Devs put on an event within the city. PvP started with objectives like take control of this antenna relay, this computer terminal, kill this faction leader and his troops. After 2 weeks of fighting the battle destroyed the city. The remains of the city became a wide open pvp area with the same objectives during the event. Who ever controlled the city controlled the planet. Planetary control gave a boost to faction legacy/valor/experience gains. There were pinch points in the city, areas where we could regroup or set up for an attack. 1 main shuttle/spaceport with respawn areas on either side of the battled city.

Why can't SWTOR have its own version of SWG planetary control and Restus? After Jump to Lightspeed (open space flight) it was the most popular area of activity in the game.

this is faction based area pvp not a free for all zone. so teams of pubs and sith alike can battle it out together and control the war's outcome
