Samoth_Nomad Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Not sure what all the crying as about, but I found the event to be a nice touch of content and a good break from dailies. I finished my first Kingpin mission after 3 hrs of playing the event today. I never spent more than 15 min. on a planet, talking to shady characters. The level scaling works nicely. Tips for folks having problems: Choose a planet that is not the first choice on the list Buy the drinks and probes. They make the success rate near 100% Take advantage of instances. So, all in all, thanks for the new content BW. I look forward to some of the new legacy titles, especially "Death Mark in seven systems"
jankiel Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Yeah I agree. I bash the game a lot for a many things but the event is done well in my opinion. Don't get it where all the butt-hurt is going from.
ekimmak Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) How'd you get it so quickly? I thought there was a daily lockout on it. And... yeah, not going to use the purchase interrogations. I went 10 shady characters straight before I got my first information, and that was using the friendly drink. Despite making it easier to farm LS points (which I doubt are that much to begin with) I'd rather not bring my credits into something managed by the RNG. Besides, I'm saving up for Treek. edit: Also, I'm a little unhappy with the capture or kill mechanic. I tend to forget that capturing is an option when I'm too busy trying to take the target down. It's a pretty strong elite, so I tend to blow most of my Legacy abilities on the fight, and that 10% window doesn't give you much breathing room when you're raining lightning and orbital bombardment down on someone with a sticky bomb on their chest. Hambunctious Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Multiple characters. I did it on 5 earlier, and will do more later.
Rhysling Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Agree. I had a lot of fun doing them today. Earned 8 Bounty Contracts and then did 1 Kingpin Mission. It was a nice change from the other daily missions. Well done BW. I have been enjoying the last couple of content updates.
Eillack Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 OP must have been one of the many, many ninjas. "Quick" .......
AshlaBoga Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 My complain about the quick and easy event is that it's TOO QUICK. I hit my cap today. It took me 4 hours. Admittedly most people don't sit down and play for 240 minutes straight but what I do with my days off is my business. Apparently 9 Henchmen and 2 Crime Lords puts you over cap (if you have the +10% guild bonus). Since each bounty takes about 22 minutes then 240 is enough to hit cap. P.S: It only took 9 Henchmen to get 2 Crime Lords because I got a Completed Bounty Contract from the first Crime Lord. Mind you, I thought that Lord Trok was fun. "Through Greed, I gain Strength." 'The Dark Side is no match for credits' I said mockingly as I jolted her into Chaos:)

AshlaBoga Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Lol, a shame I'm Republic Yeah, the two I did were DK and Ord Mantell and I've got to say that I enjoyed the DK Crime Lord much more than I enjoyed the Ord Mantell Crime Lord.
Shadovarn Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I imagine he's been doing them on multiple characters and then compiling all the contract thingies on one.
pan_sObak Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) event is a good job! did ityesterday with my 6 chars at 2-3 hours was thinking to do it with my crafting alts but decided not - sometimes one more time is too much :-) low lvl planets were overcrowded as hell - not less then 170 players and naar shadaa and tatooine has just 16 and 32 at all but of course distance to travel a bit more default interrogation probe has fails but not much - 75-80% of success it seems that doing henchman contracts much better for reputation as it gives 900 points and kingpin contract only 630 so gonna grind henchman to max reputation, open all kingpins and only then start doing it, may be next week Edited August 15, 2013 by pan_sObak
Samoth_Nomad Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 OP must have been one of the many, many ninjas. "Quick" ....... I didn't ninja anything, although i did have a couple shady customers ninja'd from me as i was about to click on them. Didn't matter much, because there seemed to be plenty on the planets I visited. I hear the starter planets were rougher, but I went to Tatooine, Nar Shadaa, and Alderaan, and didn't have a problem finishing quests quickly at any of them.
WarbNull Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) I actually saw the camping that people were complaining about. For me though I was lucky enough to find a few that were not being noticed. I saw more people just going for the area around the Cantina to get the Shady Characters. But they are other areas for them and I got the rest of mine away from the Cantina. I did have a few snipped from em at first but I got all five really fast. On the actually taking of the Contract, where you have to kill the guy or freeze him it was a little different. I had to wait for a chance to use that because there was a lot more people around it. But when I did it went really fast. Being a lower Level toon everyone kill him fast and I did not have to really do anything. But while waiting for my chance I did die a lot just sitting near by. All the higher level players Spawned higher level enemies and I just happened to get attack even when I did nothing to engage the NPC. Those Spawns do not really care for who it is that spawned them they attack anything and being a lower level it only took one hit from them to kill me. In the end my repairs costed me more than my reward from the kill and the cost of drinks and probes. If I had to give issue with the Event it would be as follows. To easy. You just use a few drinks and probes on a few shady characters then kill an NPC which everyone around gangs up on. Then you are done until the next day. Not sure about the so called King Pin thing as I can only really do one per toon. No real Story behind it. You just hear a few words from the the first guy on the Fleet starting you on the quest to your contact on the planet telling you about the Target. When you question the shady Characters there is no dialog what so ever. Then when you are there is nothing but a few small remarks and your reward. It only last One Week per Month and you can only do One Mission per toon each day. My main complaint is that it is not a Real Bounty Hunter System. This is an Event that makes everyone a Bounty Hunter. Really makes the Bounty Hunter Class less unique if you ask me. If everyone can be a Bounty Hunter then what is the point of having a separate class for them. They should have made it some other story that did not involve Bounty Hunting. Like some other Company wanting people killed or installations attacked and you just went out and killed or attacked them. Maybe some Corporate Mercenary or Espionage like things. Something that the Czerka Cooperation would be doing behind the scenes. That would have made more sense and fit in well with the Titans of Industry. Anyways I found the Event boring and definitely not what I wanted for my Bounty Hunter toon. I probably will not even bother with it for my other toons. It just does not seem right doing Bounty Hunting with a Class that is not a Bounty Hunter to begin with. It is really just a waste of my time. It is just not for me. I will say that some people liked it. Just not me. Edited August 15, 2013 by WarbNull
danielearley Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Glad you enjoyed it, but personally I found it boring and unchallenging. I don't like the Shady Character mechanic, which if you are on the wrong planet you have to camp. The bosses are unchallenging, the King pin missions are slightly more challenging but have more or less the same reward! But I like one of the legacy Hats so I will continue to do this until I have the required Rep to get this item, then I will never play this again.
JPryde Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 OP must have been one of the many, many ninjas. "Quick" ....... I got to admit, that I was pretty worried about the places being totally overcrowded... ... but when I came home from work yesterday, I did 3 missions on Alderaan, Tatooine and Voss (1 each) and only on Alderaan did I even see another player looking for the shady persons. Later the evening I was doing two more missions on Nar Shadaar and Alderaan again and on Nar Shadaar I was having a bit of competition... three people and me were looking for the shadies... so it took me a whole 15 minutes to get them. There was no ninjaing going on at all from what I could see. Guildies however reported to me, that it was much worse right after the event started and especially on Ord Mantell and Coruscant...But that was to be expected from a new event in its first hour.
Duvack Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Also found it very easy to run this event. went to Hutta for my first one and everyone was camped out inside the cantina waiting for spawns. Went outside and found a lowly SC hanging out by themselves so was able to click them 5 times get my contract info and move on. Total time 20 minutes (including time spent inside and then figuring out there were some outside.)
Amaranth Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I agree, I am really enjoying the event so far. The shady characters mechanic is pretty stupid, but considering we still have chickens clickable quest objectives that have to respawn, I'm not really surprised by that. That being said, I only had one instance yesterday across four characters of someone trying to ninja from me. I'm sure the starter planets were worse, but luckily you can avoid those... I honestly found the Czerka dailies to be much more frustrating.
ImmortalLowlife Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I ran one on Ord with my lvl 37 smuggler last night. It only took me about an hour to finish. I did notice a lot of camping, but I also found 3 that no-one seemed to be paying attention to so I ran back & forth between them.
Arkerus Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) I have had zero issues with this event. Sure, every one in a while my shady person gets stolen but that's the same as hunting specific mobs. I've done it on 4 different characters with no issues. People are whining because they get delayed by a minute. First world problems indeed. Edited August 15, 2013 by Arkerus
Ayelinna Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I unlocked the kingpin mission in about 2 minutes. I sat on the fleet with my 20 million credits and bought a load of contracts from other players. I got this money but buying stuff off the cartel market and selling it on the GTN because im very rich in real life, i want this to reflect on my game play because i cant be bothered to play the game and spend 3 hours getting something when i can get it in 2 minutes.

JPryde Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) ROFL What ever floats a persons boat comes to mind here. Funny... my mind was more like "all cretans are liars" But who really cares... Buying ans selling contracts is perfectly valid, and if there are poor souls around, who rather buy the licenses rather than gathering them for themselves... so be it. It doesn't affect my gameplay at all how anyone else is getting their kingpins. Edited August 15, 2013 by JPryde

Lium Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 OP must have been one of the many, many ninjas. "Quick" ....... This exactly. I keep hearing people say they did it so fast and had no issues. Um, guess that makes you cool? Because last night on Ord Mantell it took me almost an hour to get all five Shady Characters before confronting the boss. So many people camping and ninjaing the Shady Characters. Maybe I should try one of the high level worlds. Because the lowbie worlds are absolutely CROWDED.
Malastare Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 This exactly. Yes. Because most people don't think and just take the first option. If you had picked any other option, you'd have been done in fifteen minutes. My wife and I both finished the Shady Character hunt on Nar Shaddaa in under five minutes, and that was even with three other people around. On Alderaan, we were the only people looking for them. We did five of the contracts and one Kingpin in an hour or so, including a trip to Coruscant and Dromund Kaas. We avoided both Hutta and Ord Mantel entirely. Does that make me cooler than you? No. However, it proves the point that there is no reason why the event needs to take a lot of time. A mild amount of critical thinking would have told you to avoid the first planet on the list, or the lowest-level planet on the list... or any option that managed to be both of those things... Of course, if most people used a mild amount of critical thinking, it would have taken me longer. So... Don't think, everyone! Just pick Ord Mantell and Hutta and clickfest away. No, no. The first choice is definitely the one you want.
