good question. Not sure but i have a tip. On your low lvl alts dont take anything off of him. You wont be able to put it back on. I was going to replace the mods for it on my lvl 16 jedi. When i unequipped the sniper rifle, i couldnt put it back on him due to high lvl requirement. I even tried taking the mods out but the high lvl requirement is still there. Not sure what to do now. I guess i will have to shop for droid parts or make em.

HK-51 can use both Aim AND Cunning as a main stat. It's supposed to make gearing him a bit easier, depending on what class you play. Go to town with either one...although I've done some reading on blending the two to beef him up some more, but that's all hearsay and rumor at this point.

Well there was a thread somewhere on these boards where a boffin had worked out it was better to split HK 50-50 Aim and Cunning than to max out one over the other.

Don't quite remember the reasoning behind this idea, but being of very little brain myself I took his word for it.

Not so sure about this. I found he wasn't using his gun, and his assassinate skill didn't work when I tried to use him as he comes on a lowbie. I stripped everything out and bought him a low-level gun, and he became a killing machine. Even with no gear at all other than a gun he slices through all opposition on low-level planets. As cybertech gear became available I slowly outfitted him piece by piece. I have kept his level 50 gear for when I reach that high.

Some people say leave his gear in, but it didn't seem to work for me.

Same for me but I managed to get a custom vibroknife, 2 Coustom cores and 1 Coustom sensor on dromound kass and gave him a primodial sniper rifle and gave mime a lime green indestructible crystal I. His knife and gun(which gave him 800 hp). Even with no gear he does more damage(dps) than my sith with lvl appropriate gear with blue mods.

Also o e other question is HK a good companion for a Jedi sentininal?

Actually, don't listen to this tip. Sure you mean well, but if you leave the gear on he will act as though he has no gear because you aren't levelled enough to use it.

Put that stuff in the cargo hold and come back for it later. If you take Cybertech (?) as a crew skill you will be able to craft a lot of parts for HK. Otherwise you have to gear him up just like any other companion. You don't get to be level 15 with a companion making use of level 50 gear.

Ya i just realized that. What i meant to say though, is when you unlock it for a new character, dont take your sniper rifle off until you have a replacement for it. Otherwise you'll be stuck without a weapon till you do.

it is worth noting as most people seem to overlook this that at lvl 43 which i am currently on the toon i am looking at that my hk has 222 cunning as base stats and only 88 aim as a base stats. So although he can use both you can stack cunning much much higher so assuming you can make custom mods it would make more sense to use cunning mods is what i have found the only downside is if stack both cunning and aim you get crit chance off them both with alot less dimishing returns then if stacks just 1 stat

HK is special in that he gets the exact same benefits from AIM or CUNNING. You can use either or a mix of both.

Because of diminish returns, it works out statistically best to split the ratio of AIM:CUNNING at 50:50. Briefly, Main stats provide a boost to damage and a small boost to critical chance per point. The boost to damage is not on diminishing returns. The boost to critical chance does have diminishing returns, but not that severe. Because of this, it works out better to split the AIM:CUNNING ratio to max your critical chance. Overall though, this is a relatively small boost gained by splitting them.

He tends to be a pain to gear though (like all the droids), so IMO it's fine to not really worry about the AIM:CUNNING ratio and just use the best gear you can get for him

I recently picked up HK, and did some thinking about this myself. My conclusion: Since HK's base Cunning is higher than his base Aim, I would make Cunning his primary stat, since he can get that higher than his Aim stat. HOWEVER, if you're using him on a low-level character, you'll want to stick with Aim. The issue is getting your hands on moddable Droid Parts. Until you can get a full set of them, you have to make do with the premade, prestatted greens that the game gives in mission rewards (these are actually intended for your Ship Droid, but aren't actually specific to him, so you can use them on any Droid companion you have). Since these premade Droid Parts are all Aim-based, it's better to have him stick with Aim. However, once you get some moddable Droid Parts (however you end up doing it), you can start switching him over to Cunning, where his higher base stat will mean better damage.

Of course, this is all my conclusion; it's not backed up by math or anything. From the sound of it, going 50/50 would provide a higher Crit Chance, but I prefer to work with the more consistent damage you get from low crit and higher standard damage than to rely on getting a crit to inflict serious damage.

Unless you use moddable droid parts and spend millions on top end mods and armor, diminishing return shouldn't be an issue. It's certainly nothing to worry about while leveling.

For low level toons, HK-51's gear appears broken, and you get no stats for him. Even remodding won't help, because the empty shells require level 50 also, so like someone else said, just put it in your cargo hold and regear him from scratch.

No, you should take all of his gear off. If you leave the level 50 sniping rifle in, it is exactly the same as having no weapon at all. Put in a crappy low-level green blaster rifle, though, and he'll be able to delete meatbags at will.
