He was my first, day one launch, and... Wow... What the **** did I do to him? where the **** was I going? what the **** was I thinking??

He's a 28 Vanguard (who wishes he was a commando now), in Alderaan, couldn't even take on a 3 normal mob without calling in the entire republic fleet for backup and was wearing greens all over. Elara wasn't geared, neither was the Cathar, I was dead broke, and I wondered how the heck did I even get to Alderaan??

How do I save this train wreck? My Jedi Guardian and Bounty Hunter are well off doing fine as 40's covered in PvP gear with credits to survive on (not millions or anything just hovering around 100k)

I have no idea what to do. He's in armormech and scavenging. I was wondering if I should just play my other toons and support him when they can start dailies and whatever shenanigans are on the GTN now. I mean it's jarring to see level 26's wearing purple mods and sporting 7k hp when my guy is struggling at 5k. I mean wow I didn't know what game I must have been playing then. Anyways, help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: when you see 526 days since the last mail he got, that's when you know you lost interest in the game for a good while. I haven't played in a long time.

Keep him. Go back to Tatooine, I think you missed the bonus series there. And try and do some lowbie PvP on him, if you can stand it.

Sending over some loot from your higher level characters would not be amiss, either. Are you making him a tank?

In addition to the sensible advice above, be aware that whatever gathering skills you have, that Alderaan is an excellent place to gather materials. Thus you may be able to gather mats to craft better gear for yourself, or sell to other players to gain the cash to get better gear.

In addition planet based commendations have now been amalgamated rather than planet-based so you may have a stack of these to get better mods for your existing gear. Flashpoints are also an excellent source of gear and cash.

Don't despair, even if it's difficult at first I am sure you can recover your character to glory.

Happy gaming :)

526 days since you last played? Wishing you had chosen Commando instead of Vanguard? On Alderaan wearing greens and companions are not geared? Out of money?

Hmmm....

I would suggest starting a *new* Trooper. DO NOT DELETE THIS ONE (yet). Just start a *new* Trooper and play with him for awhile.

With game knowledge acquired you will make better choices. You will be able to "correct" your Advanced Class choice (if you want). You will "remember" the Troopers gameplay.

And... you will probably know by the time you get to choose your Advanced Class (or shortly after) which one you want to play (the new or the old one :)).

Hi Karimloo... :)

I am in the exact same position... When I arrived at Alderaan, I had soooo much trouble ... :( I was being attacked by other players and not lasting more than 5 seconds before I was sliced and diced unceremoniously - and without getting a shot in...

I gave up and went on-line elsewhere for a while and only popped back recently to transfer my character from the Australian Sever as prompted by the site's automated email..

I was asked to assist with a Heroic two days ago and I was soooo impressive, I haven't been asked again... Last night I was wandering around sightseeing as it appears to be the end of the game for me - Gearbox's silly robot thing just won't die so there's nothing more for me to do... Then I was attacked and left crawling in the middle of a paddock collecting my body parts, only to have the vermin Vangard return and repeat the process - 2 more times...

Some how I managed to reach level 34, though I am still being slaughtered by level 30's..

I am a Trooper Commando and have the best things I can get for my level from the Balmoral trader guy at the Fleet Command place... I worked out the mods thing and all of mine have 14 in them - I don't have access to the 15's yet... I dress Aric Jorgan in all my seconds so I think I am looking after him as best I can... My armour rating is around 2500 and he is 2000..

With 50,000 credits and a comfortable coin supply I am still reluctant to buy anything from the cartel... I am worried anything I buy will make me less protected or be redundant in two or three level shifts... (I have my eye on an outfit worth 1400 coins - though of course it only comes in one colour..:( )

I could probably handle being chopped into pieces continuously if I could actually wear something remotely feminine - or at least respectable. The on-line shopping facilities are desperately lacking in fashion sense... and seriously, who wants to wear the same thing every day..??? OMG..!!! I even had to upgrade my gorgeous head band yesterday for a pair of ridiculous glasses... absolutely devastated...:t_confused: - I actually gave it to Aric to wear so I could at least see it - I can't say he's really that impressed of course..

I popped into the forum in hope of finding something that may assist move me forward a tad in the game. I will take the Tattooine advice and see if I missed the 'bonus' part there... though reading your post makes me wonder if I am destined to roam the wastelands, dressed appallingly and at the mercy of every level 1 - Free-To-Play - player that wants a cheap kill.. (Hmmm.. where's the crying Smilie..???)

BTW... If I stumble on a guy who lets me get one shot in before he slices me to pieces - I'll know it's you..:p

Jaz...

First Karimloo, glad to hear your Trooper is doing better now. it sounds like it's just a matter of time and your comp's wiil be up to the task as well, congrats! - :)

Second Jaz, - :D I really had to smile at your good nature in the face of such adversity.

it sounds like you may be on a PvP server... if so consider switching to a PvE server instead or if already on a PvE server make sure you're not flagged for PvP. ( as you have seen PvP can be quite brutal and unforgiving ).

as for your Trooper Commando, are you spec'ed for heals? or damage? if you're set up for healing try using Tanno Vic or the bug faced guy ( sry, can't remember his name... Yuan? Youn? ) if you have him. Vic is your main tank companion and you can throw heals at him as he fights the mobs for you.

if set up for damage, use Elara as your comp, she's a great healer and has that very nice British accent as well - :).

( as a yank I'm very fond of her voice... just saying ).

actually, Vic is a good choice no matter what your spec is.

Aric is ranged damage only and for a Commando you really need a melee companion to take the heat off of you during the fights.

as for fashion, get adaptive gear that's moddable, either from the GTN, social gear vendor or the cartel market. as long as it is moddable you can keep it geared to your current level.

at your lvl it can be waaay too expensive to try to keep multiple sets of armors geared to the proper level, however, there are now dye packs which are pretty cheap on the GTN so perhaps that may satisfy your sense of fashion short term.

doing the bonus series for the last planet you were on is a great way to get comms for better mods. even if the bonus series is well below your current lvl ( will not earn xp ) you'll still earn the comms ( Balmorra bonus series earns around 18 comms for example if memory serves ).

and last, make sure your weapons are up to lvl too, as well as relics, implants and earpieces. these can make a huge difference in whether you live or die.

no matter what, mid lvl characters can be a bit squishy but once you get into the lvl 30 range and above it tends to get easier.

anyway, I hope at least some of this helps and best of luck! - :)

Haa, I returned to my commando in a similar fashion. It had not been 526 days but long enough for me to forget everything about him. I found him as a level 46 on voss, I had no idea how to play him and he, along with every available companion, was in 20 levels old gear. Not sure how I got there in the first place but I speced heals, bought some cheap, yet level appropriate gear, for a companion and somehow managed to get through it. Corellia was a much smoother ride.

GTN scav mats. Prices on the lower-midlevel stuff should be surprisingly good.

Go to Tat or even Nar to gather mats if you have to. In fact, either of those bonus series quest lines is a better bet for you than Alderaan. Tattooine bonus is actually lower level (and less cool IMO) than the Nar one, which has L31 opponents.

OMG...ty magecutter..:))

I'm at a place called Jung Ma and after some extensive googling it appears to be a RP PvP...O.O I tried to look for a preference box that will stop me advertising myself as a walking scabbard, unfortunately I can't find it anywhere...

After I read your post... I immediately sent Aric off to work in my ship's garden and Elara is now helping me meander through the wastelands - We are working really well as a team offering some resistance to the over zealous vermin Vangards now..

I went back to taris and completed lots of heroics to get more commendations and used them at the Fleet Market to replace all the 5 and 7 rated mods with 14's - including Elana's as well.. (she loved the head piece as much as I did btw.. :) )

Now that we were both all set - I went back to Gearbox and his contraption and with the assistance of Elana's healing, the fortitude stim, a medi-pack and a few well timed combinations of gadgets and blaster things, we squished him..:D - along with the Sith commanders too..:p

I cant thank you enough for your advice... It was very easy to read and seemed put to everything into perspective for me... Each step seemed to blend into the next and it all worked wonderfully in the end... - not for Gearbox of course.. lol

Now that I am quietly confident I am getting this all together, I will start looking for some decent outfits before i head off to Balmoral... :t_angel:

Thank you so much...xxx

Dear Trooperette Commander JazPent,

so happy I was able to help and thank you for the smiles your posts brought me - :p

FYI because you're on a RP-PvP server there is no way to avoid PvP action... just the nature of the beast.

also, while I am quite fond of Elara you might consider gearing up either Tanno Vic, Yuan (if you have him) or your droid for combat. it adds a nice change of pace and can really take the heat off of you in tough combat situations.

best of luck and congrats on squishing Gearbox ( he totally had it coming ) - ;)
