Star Wars Music Copyright Laws question.

I have made a few videos and threw them on Youtube in the past year and some of those videos have had their sound blocked due to copyright laws. Now I am indeed no lawyer here, but I must ask...when it's Star Wars music, in a Star Wars game, that I am not gaining any money from, what exactly is the problem? I do not understand why this was an issue, especially when one of those songs that had copyright claims is music that is ACTUALLY in the GAME!

Do I have a case here or am just SOL?

Maybe it has something to do with Disney owning the rights now. I always found it odd that on the Disney blocked out the logos on the instruments the people were playing, logos like Fender, Gibson and Marshall, all well known and produce some very high quality products, products most owners show proudly. I later found out Disney are really tough on licensing, and hammer people for doing it without paying, so they are simply really careful so as to not have someone come back after them, makes sense.

Maybe YouTube is just being careful so as to avoid any potential problems now that Disney owns the rights? Just a thought/possibility.

It's the music used in the game that came from the movies that causes the problem. I have tons of SWTOR videos on Youtube and a handful have copyright claims, though none muted yet, due to the music being from the John Williams soundtracks (a.k.a. Sony and Warner Music). BioWare has the license to use the music in the game, we do not have a license to use it anywhere so we can get hit with copyright claims on our videos even though we are using in-game music. Sucks, but it is what it is. Oh, I do have one video blocked in Germany because it has "QUEEN AMIDALA AND THE NABOO PALACE", sound recording administered by: SME; I don't get that.

Funny anecdote, I had a dev rolling his eyes when I posted a screenshot of one of the first copyright claims I had, he thought it was stupid just like I did. Another funny anecdote, I have two videos of the same in-game conversation but only one has a copyright claim on the music even though they're exactly the same music-wise.

If the claim isn't from Sony or Warner, definitely fight it.
