Superman_AZ
For the past few weeks, I've seen people mentioning dropping their sub status and moving to preferred status to save on the sub fee. While $15 is hardly a wallet-breaker, I understand the value for the service is in question, especially when only playing a couple of hours a week. So, I looked around and found SW-TOR Free Features comparison guide. I was (pinches fingers close together) this close to moving to preferred status, until I saw all of the limitations on the account. I don't think I would mind dropping to preferred if I get to keep my crew skills, cargo, and legacy unlocks which I have already purchased. My other issue would be the 350k credit cap. I make close to 500k a day at the GTN. I'd hate to have to use escrow just for the inconvenience of big purchases. I can't imagine not having full access the way I do now. Plus, no more sub would likely mean no more forums either. Anyone else ever drop from Sub to preferred and come back to subbed? And if so, what was your biggest reason to do so? TUXs
You drop $200 on cartel coins each month and you thought about going F2P?! Uh huh....something in your fabricated story smells fishy. Why try to save $15 when you spend more than that for the coins? Edited July 9, 2013 by TUXs
chuixupu
You can buy all the unlocks for pretty much every limitation with either CC's or credits. You can now even purchase an unlock to bypass the credit cap.

Most of the really cool things (or at least what people consider cool) or the higher tier mods cost more than you will be able to have at any time as a preferred/f2p. RazerCannon
I found F2P perfectly fine, actually. I only resubbed temporarily because I found a cheap 60-day card on ebay, and the price for it plus Makeb as a subscriber was essentially the same as Makeb for F2P. I will be going back to F2P at the end of the week, and I should be fine. I have the unlocks I need to essentially have the same experience. The only hitches are (a) the 350K credit cap, which requires some planning and (b) the RE chance dropping to 10%, which is a pain but manageable. OP, why do you need to make 500K a day at the GTN? What does that enable you to do? I get by on 350K quite easily as I adventure around. Maybe I am missing something.

Why try to save $15 when you spend more than that for the coins? My time will be getting more limited as summer draws to a close. It was just an idea. Besides, lately, it would seem "I am the problem" or "People like me are the reason the game is failing". So, since my money doesn't help the game, and it only seems to hinder it, I figured I would ask. No point in supporting something to which I am apparently the issue. This way, when I do hit endgame, I can simply stroll over to the GTN and purchase gear to get me going. I like to play smart... not hard
Darth_Moonshadow
That would be good. If I purchase that BEFORE I drop my sub, do I retain it? and is it Legacy wide or just per character? Yup yup! Any Unlocks you buy stay. Artifact, Server slots, Cargo Bays, the works. All you would need to do is "re-unlock" them, which is just clicking the Unlock button and presto! I wish the credit vouchers were an unlock. I'm pretty sure they work one time only. Like the consumable med-probes. chuixupu
Not really. You can bypass the cap but not by enough. Most of the really cool things (or at least what people consider cool) or the higher tier mods cost more than you will be able to have at any time as a preferred/f2p. Not by enough is subjective. Some people said they went over more credits than I ever owned. The only thing that I'd balk at the cost is paying for the weekly operation unlocks. Though I have known some people who were smart enough to spend credits on buying tons of them ahead of time. Not sure what you mean bout higher tier mods costing more. Do you mean if you want to rip them out of shells?

Plus there is always, what you mentioned (ripping off the shells), convenience items, augmenting etc. I personally don't think that Preferred/F2P makes sense for anyone who plays hardcore. If we're talking about 4-5 days a month, then yeah Preferred is a no-brainer. PS: But, obviously, it is subjective. I agree with that. Superman_AZ
As it stands, I only get to play about 25-30 hours a month. Once things pick up at work in August, That will drop to 5-10 hours a month. At that point I just could not see subbing or investing in the CM to log in, play for an hour or two a week, and then log out for 7 days.

Mostly because really don't have the credits to do so despite being a sub. I'm not arguing for going Preferred, I think $15 a month is worth the trouble, but I honestly do see how a lot of people can get around the restrictions with some planning. Edit: Correction, I have bought augments off the GTN. But I won't spend more than 15k for them because I am cheap Edited July 9, 2013 by chuixupu
