skitzogreg
I'd like to send a friendly reminder to all players (F2P and Subscribers) about chat etiquette and the effects of what happens when you are 'ignored'. I'm not here to say what you should/shouldn't say in chat; that's obvious. However, before you decide to troll in Fleet chat [or planetary chat], remember that your trolling is likely to get you 'ignored'. "Well I don't care who ignores me, [scrubs/n00bs]" is an interesting response, because one might not understand what happens when you are ignored by hundreds of people at a given time. I say this, well, because when you're ignored, you can't queue with the people who ignore you. Do you really want to invest your time in a game in which you cannot take advantage of queuing for matches/flashpoints/operations? Consider this before you feel like throwing out nonsensical madness into the chat box. Also, the likelihood of you being ignored is likely quadrupled when one posts "bacon" or "Jawa" into chat. Also, I understand that F2P cannot respond here. That's okay, it's still visible.
OddballEasyEight
I always wonder how many of the "huge ques for PvP/FP's" complaints are from people who have been ignored by hundreds of other people...
Ashenti
the ignore function does not prevent you being grouped in PvP Warzones. other than that, spot on.
MahneWarrior
Ignoring people who PvP can real screw over your team, since what if that player you have on ignore is defending a node and the rest of the team simply drops the ball so to speak and he only needs one person to help them. You could have been that one person.
Arlon_Nabarlly
I believe this is true with PvE but not PvP. I've ignored people in WZ then ended up on their team in the following 2 warzones.

If you have too many people on your ignore list, you won't be matched with them for flashpoints/operations. If you're too quick to /ignore everyone who "bothers you" in chat, you're hurting yourself just as much. I've seen people ask the same questions over and over and over, watching it be answered repeatedly. It turns out that they had /ignored half the people on the planet during some political discussion that had broken out in general chat. I reserve the use of /ignore for credit spammers or the possibility of someone being a direct harasser of my character(s). If you feel that someone is excessively spamming open chat channels, then feel free to use the "Report Spam" option. Don't let one bad experience with a player ruin the possibilities for the future. Take the light side option... Edited July 8, 2013 by EJedi
UltimateKrucible
I use /ignore as a "naughty step" - in that transgressors go on it for a couple of hours, then back off when I assume they've learned their lesson.
Gwena
That is a good point about /ignore, and also about how it goes both ways. I reserve /ignore for individuals that are spouting truly offensive or hateful things. I'd rather not group at all than play with people like that. People going on about silly things like bacon and Jawas (actually, this trend seems to have died off a lot on my server) or asking newbie questions or talking about how hot Mako is or the pros and cons of Obama . . . it's no big deal. Inane but harmless. I certainly wouldn't /ignore someone for being mildly annoying for a short span of time.
SlimsPicken
There is zero downside for /ignoring any and all jawa bacon reddit nonsense people. Sure, you wont be grouped with them via GF, but thats good, since they are the puppets who will waste your time and make groups fail anyways. In pvp they wont call out or guard nodes, so no loss there either. The only downside is the list is finite.

SlimsPicken
If he gets annoyed by mentions of "bacon" in GC, the OP really needs to get over himself. Tolerance is at a all time high for stupidity. I support OPs disdain of all things bacon and jawa related in chat, all it does is scroll the box down and bury the decent conversations/questions. No need or want for that, and people who have no respect for others by clogging up chat with inane drivel deserve to never see a group, because all they would do is annoy them. The funny thing is, in the real world, when people do/say completely stupid stuff in others physical presence, they are either shouted down, dismissed, or physically cowed into submission. Yet, they come on the internet and think that same exact behavior is going to go over well? It doesnt, but online we cant do anything but /ignore you for being a fool...you are safe. I still dont tolerate it, however.

Pubsam
For people filling chat with nonsense I prefer report spam. In my dreams maybe some punishment will befall them. But for the people that make it on my ignore list, I don't really care how big it gets or if I have to wait any longer in queue (though since I'm either tank or heals and I overwhelmingly ignore DPS, I doubt its affecting me), because as someone else said, I'd rather not play at all if I have to play with them. Yeah because you can tell that. I'm sure you survey everyone you group with before you roll with them and have proven this assumption Hey guys you ever participate in Jawa chats, just wondering, I'm doing a survey. "Use the GF, dumb-a**." "Obama is the best." "No, Obama is the worst." "How do I get my advanced class?" "Press alt-f4." "WTS <whatever>, 250k. PST." "Use Trade, a**-hole." "Can someone give me 10k creds?" "Go table dance in the cantina." Yeah, wouldn't want to miss those gems. The best thing you see in GC are the occasional funny jokes and clever comments. But if you and the OP are that uptight, no one else can stop you.

EJedi
Grouchy Groupkiller. I like the sound of that. Yeah. Nice. I just get tired of people joining a group, then getting all pissy the second someone makes a single mistake or whatever. If people can't even have the patience to overlook a little bit of silly chat, then they're going to completely freak out the second someone wants to have fun in a group. Not everything is binary in the world.

Mr. Grouchy Groupkiller is the reason I don't group any more. I met him enough times in DDO (which is a heavily group-oriented game, or at least it was at the time I stopped playing) to get my fill for a lifetime. Reno_Tarshil
On Jedi Covenant across all my toons there, people have stated to me that I'm on their ignore lists and quite frankly I could care less about the que issue since I have a guild I can que with. I just think ignoring someone is boring and pretty much says "Hey I have nothing witty to say, so you win and welcome to the ignore list." If you get tired of people spamming Bacon, be edgy and say Bacon sucks.

That is often the case. It's hard to believe they actually think anyone else cares you've been added to their ignore list. If you get tired of people spamming Bacon, be edgy and say Bacon sucks. Only a scruffy-looking, nerfherding Chuck Norris enthusiast would press alt-f4 to that. Edited July 8, 2013 by branmakmuffin
Khayleth
I don't pvp and I'm a tank, my queue times are not in jeopardy no matter how many people I put on ignore. So if someone pisses me off I just put them on ignore since it means that if I'm queueing they just missed their opportunity and have to wait for another tank to pop, I feel bad for the dps putting people on ignore though, they have to wait a very long time compared to me. Unlike others however I don't feel the need to tell someone, if there is a person acting like that I just put them on ignore and be done with it, no comments mentioned, long as I have them on ignore it's like they don't even exist.
