The Hope trailer was terrible and stupid SPOILERS

BloodPurity

A small bunch of vastly outnumbered and outgunned troops who have the high ground and could easily set up a killing field decide to jump down to the lower ground against Sith Warriors because "hey wher'e like so cool guy right right?"

And then the leader charges into melee against a Sith lord with a Light saber to try and shoulder tackle him?

It just makes my head hurt how inept and stupid that video made them look when there supposed to be the Republic elite.

yet they still won the fight, so how inept does that make the Sithies look? ;)

Of course they won, they're the good guys. If the video was more like the game it would of had sixteen Jedi and Troopers attacking one giant droid :p

To be honest tho, if they just "held" the highground, the imperials would just fall back to a safe distance, regroup and outflank them.

They needed a quick, decisive victory that eliminated the entire patrol. Something they couldnt do if they had stayed on the highground.

Attacking from the highground gave them a decent surprise advantage tho, but it turned out to not be enough. Fortunately they got help from a jedi.

Also, you mentioned spoilers? What spoilers were you talking about?

Well, the trailer did show Satele... it showed Darth Malgus... It showed Commando weaponry... it showed lightsabers... clearly noone would have expected any of that prior to that spoiler ;)

As for the tactics... The republic team was using surprise fire followed by a charge to force the enemy to stay in battle. Opposed to only using surprise fire and letting the enemy escape to regroup, forfeiting the element of surprise.

The republic team wasn't holding any kind of hardened installation, did not have any vehicle support, no air support either, no artillery and no engineers to "guide" the enemy forces. They were not fighting to defend any installation, they were fighting as an ambush and in an ambush situation, you never want the enemy to get a chance to regroup and counterattack. You want it to be over fast. It usually gets dirty, but it needs to be fast, or else it isn't an ambush any more.

did you even watch it? yah..they "still won the fight" because Satele shows up and saves them.

the guy has a point..though I wouldn't go to that extreme...what they did was in fact stupid and they were obliterated because of it.

it took reinforcements to save them and turn the tide.

watch it again.

Just because Satele was not seen in the preparation, it doesn't mean, that she wasn't there already. Maybe she was performing one of those Jedi meditations, to make her presence unknown in the force, so that the Sith were unable to sense the ambush?

Also only a complete fool or really desperate fighter would try an ambush and not have reinforcements ready. You always keep reinforcements unless you are already fighting with your back against a wall. At least that is how I was taught in the german army. That way you can react in a flexible way to how the battle works out... as it will never work out exactly as planned.

At the end of the trailer you see Jace Malcom shoot his Digital Deluxe flare gun into the air, the camera zooms out to show that accross the planet Republic armies were winning accross Alderaan.

We don't know what happend in the other battles but I don't think Satele was helping with them all (albeit she might have shown up late here because she was in another battle).

To be honest tho, the only "stupid" thing they did was to attack a large group of sith without any jedi to support them... it wouldnt matter how much high ground they had, they were doomed to fail.

Which makes their attack not only foolish, but brave and honorable... in some peoples eyes

lol

after 15 years of marriage, my last girlfriend may be a distant memory but I'm sure she was real once.

but imagine this first date conversation if you will

"Wow, what do you think of that Jedi, he really shouldn't have been doing that, his lightsaber blade was all wrong and the tactics he used, well, they would never work."

"Why are you leaving?"

High ground means nothing if they have air support - which given the size of the Sith forces you can assume. Taking the fight to the troop level effectively negates that as they won't strafe their own troops (at least not in non-fictional battles).

The shoulder charge is called self sacrifice and/or valor. Obviously, he had a plan as he had the thermal detonator in his hand prior.

All of that aside' its called suspension of disbelief. If you don't have that and you are questioning the tactics vs glowing contained beams of energy that can cut through almost anything then you may want to reconsider your objections priorities.

Plus, The Sith could have used the Force to get to the high ground themselves or even pull the troops to the low ground. So the Troopers would have lost the advantage anyway. Might as well lose it on their own terms.

And charging the Sith was a good idea, as it sure surprised the hell out of Malgus. And it did get the Trooper close enough to blow him up.

Wasn't a Thermal Detonator, it didn't explode as one. Seemed more like a concussion grenade.

Thoughts on this...

1) Not all Sith and Jedi are the awesome! They're certainly tougher/better/what have you than a non force user, but they're not as awesome as say Anakin, Luke, Obi-Wan, Maul, basically Jedi/Sith with a bit more background to them. Some Jedi/Sith are basically like Raina Temple with some training in Lightsaber use.

2) They have the high ground against Lightsaber users. "Shoot em men!" *watches all the blaster fire get deflected away*

Which was one of the poor points of Episode 3. After all the leaping he did, why didn't Anakin jump HIGHER?! He had the capability.

Wow, thought this was a necro thread as I can remember this discussion years ago when the Hope trailer first released.

It's cinematic, it looks kewl, it's space opera.

If you want realism I think you should be watching 'Band of Brothers' or 'Pacific'
