So called, the grey players...

Greetings,

According to game director James Ohlen, "We have a system for people who want to stay more in the middle. But that’s something coming up in a later release. It’ll let you play a ‘Gray Jedi’. Basically you don’t need to go to the extreme to get rewarded. You can have a different playstyle.”, so can we get some updates on this, where it stands now, Bioware?...

(Just to note, this was sad around the beginning of the 2012)

Thank you,

Best regards!.

Not everyone, I bet someone still is alive to give us at least some useful information on this...

there's no info to give. it's not happening. isn't it obvious? they promised us a lot of things that never came to be once the game tanked past a certain point and had to go f2p.

they don't put anything alignment restricted in anymore..there's your "system"

there is nothing else to say about it.

You're too negative about this, game is still so alive, and with lots of potential, so many features only to come...

and you're naive. it's not coming. there's no reason for it too. they don't add anything with alignment restrictions anymore.

But keep lying to yourself and pointing the finger at others if it makes ya feel better.

well, I don't blame you, but where did you get ''they don't add anything with alignment restrictions anymore''?, you're so sure about this, and to add, there IS reason for this, it is regarding characters development, so good enough reason for them to address this...

I don't think it's a matter of resources. Between the expansion, all the stuff in 2.3 and working on new class stories it seems rather clear that the game once again has resonable amount of dev resources compared to the worst period prior to F2P/Cartel Market transition. But yeah, I just think they don't really consider it an issue anymore as nothing new added has Light/Dark restrictions. And just by looking at the forums, it kind of confirms that most players don't really care about it much either. Threads about grey gear pop up very rarely nowadays. Edited by Pietrastor

I'm guessing he/she used thier eyes - all new gear they have added to the game in the latest expansions is endgame & cartel/reputation gear, of which not one single piece has any lightside/darkside restrictions whatsoever. Ergo;

"They don't add anything with alignment restrictions anymore''

I remember when this was being discussed there were a lot of people complaining that they didnt think choices made in game should affect using gear. Im not saying they abandoned it for that reason but i highly doubt you will see anything at least gear related affected by dark/light side.

Its not even done right though and would need to redo the whole alignment system which isnt happening. There really is no grey in the choices. You either do light/dark side and to balance it out you choose equal amount of those options

I kinda like the need to balance the choices. Take the black talon fp, for a gray character (that im doing with my new mara) i killed the captain for disobeying orders, but i think the general is worth more alive. It runs a balance of how i want that character to be, and I think an ending to reflect that would have been nice.

I do agree with you about the gear tho, anything that doesn't have a ls/ds requirement is grey, in my eyes

Considering the only benefit to alignment is the ability to use leveling relics (which are minimally useful quite honestly) and a companion legacy skill....... I'd say the "Rewards" from going Dark 5 or Light 5 compared to simply playing your story how you choose, regardless of alignment gain/loss is really a non-issue anyway.

Maybe they realized if they did this, it ruins the whole point of the alignment system. If you want to play the grey jedi, you lose out. What's so hard about that? :p

Why give up any semblance of consequences?

This reply should have ended the thread. New gear is restricted by RNG in the CM, not alignment.

Important to you maybe but not overly important to the actual game.

it's small things what makes this game good, and of course there always will be more important things...

I would like to have them make some lowbie relics with out an alignment restriction. None of my chars have relics/have on level relics because I have neutral on all of them, there's no light/dark side points to be had in WZ's.

this thread wasn't about the gear restriction in the first place, there is many other good things from alignment vendor like a speeders or pets...

It was and is a horrible system, because you don't make choices that you like & develop a real story, you just click all light-side to qualify for the pet and color speeder you want faster, or the ability to wear a relic sooner, or to generate more free companion affection faster, or to not be hideous with force corruption(even though it can be toggled). It was and is bad design with the rewards in an MMO, and I'd argue that it wasn't that great in KOTOR single player games either; you just had less pressure to tip the meter to one side or the other as quickly as you do here.

The game has several "features" that were half-implemented or have been neglected and/or abandoned completely.

Sometimes it's a good thing, like with adaptive armor replacing the social point concept.

The problem is that they just leave the old "feature" in there to rot.

If you are talking about the "neutral" aligned player characters then yes they did update us about 2-3 months ago via a fansite. It was around the time of announcing 2.0 or cathar or such like. I will try to find a link but it might take some time. It was either on Torhead , darth hater or dulfy's site.

Cheers,

BadOrb.
