Aelaias Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) I can haz one? Let's see what the new bolster does for the recruit. Edited April 7, 2013 by Aelaias
Andrew_Past Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=021200100000000000000000000000000322002221220031212203200300010000200000000000000000000000000000&ver=20 This build will probably be my standard build. There's some room for variation. You can take 3 points out of free Sweep/Sweep CD and pick up Force crit or Battlefield Command. http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=020200000000000000000000000000000322002221210030212203200300010003200001000000000000000000000000&ver=20 This build is more aggressive, but in PVP you might be giving up too much for too little of a gain.
Aelaias Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 That aggressive build is looking attractive; I wanted to incorporate swift slash what with the crit chance getting nerfed in general and for dispatch in particular (so overpowered, those vigilance types). Also, I don't understand the gather strength skill, it just screams filler to me. Thanks for the input.
Draqsko Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Gather Strength is not a filler perk in PvP. It is kinda useless in PvE but just think about all the times you are snared, slowed, or stunned in PvP, it will stack up and add more damage to your next attack that uses focus. It can stack up to a 20% buff currently. I find it to be one of the hallmark talents for Vigilance PvP, go ahead try to CC or snare or slow me, you WILL pay the price when I catch up to you. Bonus Answer: It will stack up even if you are immune to CC, and it will affect abilities that cost you no focus if they would cost focus without talents (Momentum buffed Blade Storm, or Effluence buffed Force Sweep).
BlueArbiter Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 actually, gather strength only applies to melee abilities that cost focus.
Andrew_Past Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Gather Strength isn't what it used to be, but it still gives a decent boost to Overhead Slash and Disptach. On the PTS, I saw some 8k+ OHSs and Dispatches in my normal WH/EWH mixed gear. And not always with full stacks. I preferred the extra armor due to the hallmark ability of Vigilance being an extremely durable and flexible main fight DPS. With the extra armor, Commanding Awe, and Unremitting you can take a LOT of punishment. I will be trying both, but that was my initial assessment.
pianomanhooper Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 this will be my build all purpose mostly pvp focused vig build... I stil think we need to rework narrowed focus and make that a passive movement boost or tie a momvemt boost t our bleeds... but here will be my spec http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=020100000000000000000000000000000312302021200031212203100320010003200001000000000000000000000000&ver=20
Andrew_Past Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 In another thread a dev said that they're going to be looking into Vigilance mobility and possibly rework the Preparation talent. I'm just hoping that the changes will make it to 2.0.
Draqsko Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 actually, gather strength only applies to melee abilities that cost focus. Yeah had a brain fart on that one.. I usually just throw out OHS/BS in rapid sequence, so GS buff is consumed on my hardest hitting instant anyways. But the way proc buffs work in general, is that if an ability does X for a baseline, that is what is used for calculating buffs and refunds. For example with the Effluence talent, sweeps are free, however Shien form refunds 1 focus for all abilities that use focus, therefore even though sweeps don't cost you any focus, Shien form still refunds 1 focus for using it. With 2.0, gather strength is almost a must have, use it every time you proc keening and get dispatch up. The only time I spec out of it, is for PvE right now, because not enough mobs actually throw out stuff that procs it if your tank is good and holds aggro on them. My only wish list for Vigilance is that they remove the threat drop on Focused Defense, and make it a seperate skill. I absolutely hate not having a threat drop that doesn't impact my dps in raids. All classes should have an independant threat drop that doesn't consume resources.
pianomanhooper Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 they should get rid of narrowed focus... or at least make it a 1) speed boost or aoe reduction... ive been vig since launch and I have never used or found the need for narrowed focus

It should add a passive speed boost in addition to the AOE focus generation. PVE Vigilance uses the focus generation. Edited April 8, 2013 by Andrew_Past

Thanks! Just one question though: why did you not take Preparation? Is it a bad talent?
Aienir Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) I was thinking of using this http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=020200000000000000000000000000000320302021200131212203200320010000220000000000000000000000000000&ver=20 As an all purpose sort of build, but if I had to change it up in PVP/PVE i would use these 2 PVE: http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=020200000000000000000000000000000302302021200131212203200320010000220000000000000000000000000000&ver=20 PVP: http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=020200000000000000000000000000000320302021220131212203200200010001220000000000000000000000000000&ver=20 * Edit- The reason for not taking Preparation for PVP is that if you play vigilance the right way, you are almost never out of combat for that talent to make any use. In a really good game versus a good team, you probably wont be out of combat too often enough to justify that talent. Just my feeling. ** Edit - Also I might not take it for PVE either, since they are all on a relatively short cooldown anyway (sort of) that it might just be an altogether useless talent. It could be that the force crit talent might be best to use over that. Edited April 9, 2013 by Aienir
LameAesir Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) PVP: http://pts.swtor-spy.com/skill-tree-calculator/guardian/225/?build=020200000000000000000000000000000320302021220131212203200200010001220000000000000000000000000000&ver=20 If swtor-spy isn't out of date, Momentum requires Shii-cho form to work. We can't take it anymore in vigilance. Edited April 9, 2013 by LameAesir
RodneyMcNeely Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 So, guys. Now that 2.0 is live, how is Vigilance going to stack up 1v1 against full Kinetic Combat Shadows/Darkness Assassins? I have a KC Shadow AND a Vigilance Guardian, but I'm torn between which one to use for 1v1.
Vildiil Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I've only bothered to do one match on my Guardian so far but Vig felt really strong and I enjoyed it quite a bit, probably gonna use andrew's first spec with the armor rating at 55.
Lahsbee Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 In another thread a dev said that they're going to be looking into Vigilance mobility and possibly rework the Preparation talent. pianomanhooper Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 they don't need to rework the perperation talent its fine....questing is to ez and pvp Is non stop if im get heals and use los accordingly. they need to rework narrowed focus its useless for a specthat generates so much additional focus if they change preparation I will be tad bit upset
Andrew_Past Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 That's good to hear - are you referring to this: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=6072056#edit6072056 Or something else? Yes, I was referring to that post. Unfortunately, no mobility changes came with 2.0 from PTS. they don't need to rework the perperation talent its fine....questing is to ez and pvp Is non stop if im get heals and use los accordingly. they need to rework narrowed focus its useless for a specthat generates so much additional focus if they change preparation I will be tad bit upset Preparation is not fine. In any sort of organized PVP, you will very rarely exit combat outside of dying. This is due to Vigilance being a very front-line melee DPS that can take a lot of punishment. This leads to being engaged with multiple opponents at a time. Additionally, taunting effectively will also keep you in combat. In end game PVE, the situation is worse. There is no way to drop combat in boss fights, making the talent totally useless. These endgame scenarios are the only ones that should be considered for balancing. Balancing around top level play.
Okod Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I wouldn't want them to drop it completely, I think it will be extremely handy in certain situations, although I'm only planning to put 1 point in it for a 50% drop. (Still levelling my Vig Guardian, so some way off from 'end game').

Mordarion Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Any one have any more thoughts? Esp about the choice between placing the last few points in "Swift Slash" in focus or "Guard Stance" in Defense. Thanks in advance .
stuffystuffs Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Any one have any more thoughts? Esp about the choice between placing the last few points in "Swift Slash" in focus or "Guard Stance" in Defense. Thanks in advance . I went "Guard Stance" since I'm dying way more often/quicker. They are apparently fixing bolster/low TTK so that might change. I found lvl 50-54 (and lvl 55) PvP quite painful on my Vig Guardian. Oddly enough, I jumped on my Veng Jugg and was doing great. I think part of the problem is bolster as my Jugg in Rakata gear was getting better bolstered stats than my min/maxed WH Guardian. Also, the Republic is horribad on my server which doesn't help.
Aelaias Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 You should NOT be using pvp equipment with the possible exception of main hand until they fix the bolster. I found my old lvl 49 oj set with purple mods and pve focus worked well. Earpiece is off but may be added as you level. Mix and match equipment in a wz to find what works best or go naked.

Did they fix that today? I've just been tanking on my Guardian for now (I have a good PVE tank set).
