Gree vs Rakghoul Events

Hey guys. As I just came back to the game last week after busy life and an mmo lul I didn't get to participate in the Gree event. I heard that it took place twice and that it may return. My questions are 1) will the Gree event return so I may experience it (if not no worries) and 2) which event was more entertaining? The Rakghoul event was done well IMO so just curious about your impression of each event in comparison.

Rack ghoul was better in terms of story and fun, ilum has better rewards IMO...

Hmm. I haven't researched the rewards of the Gree event. I'll do that.

Have to agree, the Rakghoul event was way better. The story was awesome and I personally like Tatooine more than Ilum.

Rak event was more spectacular in scope, and had a bigger variety of activities. But it also required a greater time commitment than the Gree event. You can drop into the Gree event & do the entire daily quest series in as little as half an hour with a full group. The Rak event easily required twice as much time.

 

One of the best things about the Gree event is that it sort of creates a set of dailies to do that you havn't done too many times before. Including daily comm rewards on the missions was a win in my book. But It seems like there are not really any "mid range" rewards to the Gree event. You either unlock most of them, or you don't hardly have access to any of them.

 

The Gree event currency is severly limited it how much of it can be acquired each week, and it's BoP. It would have been nice if they had included a second currency that was a little more available, and some rewards for that.

Personally, I think they both had their advantages.

 

Some of the daily missions in the Rakghoul event were pretty long and drawn out, whereas they seemed to be a bit shorter during the Gree event.

 

The rewards were far better in the Gree event, with customized weapons for every proficiency, along with the much-awaited legacy saber hilts, which now allow people to pass hilts back and forth among toons.

 

I believe the world bosses were superior in the Gree event compared to the Rakghoul. Xenoanalyst II was much more involved than the world bosses on Tatooine.

 

Finally, I think the PVP was much better in the Gree event. By turning the central area into a small-group-only PVP zone, with a max of 4 players, with all other players showing red (outside of your guild), it seemed there were a lot less overwhelming Imp/Rep stomp teams rolling through wiping everyone out. In fact, more often than not, you'd see people of the same faction getting into it, fighting back and forth, while the other faction could come right in and drop orbs into the pylon.

 

We also had some great teamwork and cooperation in the Gree event that I didn't see in the Rakghoul event, such as the managed lines where players lined up to drop orbs in, rather than letting it always break down into a free-for-all gankfest. The first time I came up on the pylon and noticed a line of a dozen people standing there, waiting patiently, with Scoundrels behind Operatives behind Guardians behind Assassins, I thought it was awesome.

 

Of course, every once in a while... an AoE target would appear on the ground in the middle of the line...

 

Different things for different folks I guess. More than anything, I like the variety of the different events. The Rakghoul, Chevin and Gree events were all different enough that none of them just seemed like repurposed missions.

 

And as the final caveat always in SWTOR... your mileage may vary.

I wasn't around for the Rak event, so I can't speak to which one was more entertaining, I'll leave that to the folks that can, but personally I really enjoyed the Gree event. Having multiple toons to play it with helped a lot with gaining rep. So I'm maxed out now (in rep), waiting for it to return so I can collect a few more Gree thingys (can't think of the proper name for them....lol) so that I can get my Gree speeder. Lot's of fun and yes it will be returning. No word yet on exactly when though. I would guess a couple weeks after Makeb drops........but that's just a complete guess on my part.
