funkiestj Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Is there any PvP theorycrafting available for 2.0 alacrity? Is the formula for cast time improvements the same? Is the mana regeneration aspect proportional to the cast time improvement? In another thread, Cashology_reborn commented that "alacrity is useless for PvP". Implied in this comment (IMO) are the percentage of casts you get off rather than being interrupted because of your alacrity increase is insignificantburst is more important than throughput, alacrity increases througput and only marginally. Have any of the PvE theorycrafters determined that alacrity in 2.0 is useful for PvE? Because pre-2.0 alacrity did nothing for throughput it was considered a waste for PvE where througput in long boss fights is the order of the day.
ArchangelLBC Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 It definitely does not increase energy regen by the same amount it lowers cast time.
KettleBelll Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 It definitely does not increase energy regen by the same amount it lowers cast time. It couldn't, because it gives you increased regen - walking around - while stunned - finding someone to pass a huttball to - changing nodes - sending tells and etc. The increased regen is always on.

If you have a neutral cost rotation without alacrity, you should still be able to go through that rotation and be energy neutral (for any amount of alacrity) Example Cases: Net 0 energy rotation over 15 seconds Without alacrity that means 10 gcd's With alacrity of 10% (casting 1 gcd takes 1.35 seconds) and you cast ~11.1 abilities in the same 15 seconds With alacrity of 15% (casting 1 gcd takes 1.125 seconds) and you cast ~13.3 abilities in that same 15 seconds This means that over the course of time, unless your energy regen % from alacrity is greater than the cast speed reduction % you will run out of energy faster. For both pvp and pve, if alacrity is to keep energy the same for neutral rotations, cast speed and percent of energy increase can't be the same. Lastly, the alacrity given per point is much less than it used to be - part of the Power Creep Avoiding stat reorganizing. I'd suggest waiting until a bit after 2.0 drops to see how it turns out then. Edited April 5, 2013 by jolleebindu
