MrRuck Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 (edited) Are we guaranteed to lose them to existing players or will factors (e.g. current activity, date created, total time played, active subscription, etc.) be taken into account? I'm aware this merge is different to when the High Capacity servers first went live though I feel we're entitled to equal rights over names as paying customers, especially those like myself who don't agree a merge is even necessary. I'm aware this merge is different to when the High Capacity servers first went live though I feel we're entitled to equal rights over names as paying customers, especially those like myself who don't agree a merge is even necessary. They've done merges before and, yes, someone will have to change their name when there is a conflict. I would hope that this time around subscription status plays a part, but if both people subscribe then it's back to whatever formula they've been using.
iamthehoyden Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Some character names will be lost. If I recall correctly, APAC has never had a server merge...the transfers to APAC servers were voluntary. We've had two rounds of merges in the US servers (small pop to large pop and then large pop to super servers). In both cases, some people lost names. Start making a list of some back ups, alternate spellings, etc, so when you're sitting at your computer staring at the character screen you have a plan.
Astygia Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 If they're smart, they'll do it the way Aion did it way back when... The smaller server merges where just like one or two NA servers got downsized, the folks that moved got a name change ticket in their back and their names, until changed, had the server name in it (ex - my toon was Astygia, and anyone named Astygia from one of the other servers had been moved over became Astygia-XX, where the XX was the abbreviation for their server name). However, when they did the HUGE merges, where lots and lots of realms got wrapped into 4, they just issued every single toon a name change ticket and every single toon was renamed to include their server abbreviations, so it was basically first come first serve in the case of overlapping names from different servers. Given that APAC wasn't exactly a huge chunk of numbers in terms of players, they could go either way, but given the circumstances it would be most fair to go the latter route & give everyone a chance to keep their name, dependant only on how fast you are to log & lock it in for your use.

I could be wrong but as far as I knew they only took factors into account with the second merge due to the fact that they were brand new servers (using existing names). I'm concerned that it was a once off. That, and as you said, we haven't had a merge before which has made us quite the minority. Edited March 29, 2013 by MrRuck

I'm very sympathetic to the bad hand the APAC players have been dealt, but, to be quite honest, I'd be very surprised if they made the current west coast players who have been through two forced moves (and possibly two name changes) already change yet again. I could be wrong, but we'll see.
