It was mentioned a while back in a Q and A that someday we would see mentoring in this game. I understand that details are not ready to be delivered, but I would love to know that this is still on the radar of features to happen. It would be a GREAT feature for this game.

I think this would be a great addition to the game. Given the number of alts players have, I can see this being a very widely used system.

Could you elaborate? When I hear "mentoring" I think of a mechanic in CoV; a lower-leveled player was artificially powered-up to the level of the mentor, thus allowing them to partake in the same content. Or the other way around. TOR has the "bolster" mechanic, so it might be possible to do. I'd like to see it. Not sure if that's what you're on about though?

Well, considering that a "mentor" is usually a person of greater knowledge and/or a person someone else strives to become like or someone who they can learn from, then "mentoring" another player would be the act of helping the lower level player out.

I can't answer for the OP, but my "hope" would be for a reverse "bolster" type of thing, where my 50 is leveled down to the level 23's level.

I think CoX did this too. A reverse system like you described.

Yep it was. Called Exemplar which was basically reverse sidekick. You go down to the person's level where they were at least 3 levels below you.

I think that would be the only way BioWare will do this... and I also still wait to see it happen one day.

Righty. (Reverse) bolstering would indeed be nice and if they've said it's in the plans I wouldn't mind hearing more about it either. Seeing as they're focusing a bit more on "quality of life" after RotHC it might not be that far off, relatively speaking.

Quality of life... more to do at end-game (at least for those of us who enjoy helping folks) and role play (Especially Master/Apprentice Jedi fun). These are all good reasons for mentoring.

I think it's pretty obvious by now that TOR has a bit of a slower turnaround cycle now when it comes to features mentioned in interviews or previewed in videos...

It's a great idea but questions of "when?" or, in fact, "still on?" won't get a real answer any time soon.

Yeah, they did it both ways and it was great. You could play up or down levels. Made it a lot easier to fill teams and play with your friends who might be at different levels than you.

Mentor vs. Sidekick...I like that. Would it allow someone like a lvl 23 to do an EV SM?

I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm pretty confident it was possible in CoV, doing the "operations" this way that is. The classes and mechanics were quite a bit different there though, I'm not convinced it would work as well in TOR.

Yeah, this would be a good thing to do IMO.

Then again.. I can see it now in /general chat.....

random 1: "LFM (looking for Menter), need menter nao!! kay thanx"

random 2: "It's MentOr, not Menter, spazcheeks"

random 3: "your mom was my mentor last night... luzor"

random 4: "I thought you said Chuck Norris was your mentor!"

random 1: "There is bacon in it for anyone who will menter me nao!"

random 3: "no random 4... I specifically said that Chuck Norris was YOUR Moms Mentor /rolleyes"

random 5 (wakes up, with keyboard marks on face): "Did somebody say something about bacon?!"

TL;DR: Mentoring will drive yet another reason to /facepalm at "Soutpark In SWTOR general chat" 7/24 in game. :p

Mentoring sounds nice. It would offer a good opportunity to use the quote "Great! Don't get cocky.". Too bad I don't yet have a scoundrel (or gunslinger, I'm not sure which fits better for Han).

I never did SK/Exemp for TF's through. I think (and it's been years since I did one in CoX even before the shutdown) you were automatically Exemp if you did one below your level. But I don't think you were able to go up to do endgame ones. Only down if I remember right.

This "mentoring" system is used in Everquest 2 and is a very good system to help out lower level players, be they guildmates, their alts, friends, friend alts. The system where higher level will be lowered down to the level of the person he's mentoring that is. It's a system which should be already in this game.

CoX had level requirements for it's "Task Forces" - and unless you really were that level, you couldn't join them by Sidekicking into it - the opposite worked though, a 50 for example could Exemplar down to level 12 to run Black Talon with a friend without nerfing their xp.

AKA, Jacen is correct.

Righty. That makes sense too as you needed the missions themselves to get into the TFs (didn't they have a different name too, one for CoH, one for CoV? Probably just mixing things up...) iirc. Never actually did any of them until I had hit level cap truth be told.

But yes. Mentoring for TOR would be swell.

CoH was Task Force

CoV was Strike Force

But people knew what you meant if you mixed them up in the chat channels asking for teams.

And Positron TF was a PITA IMO before they added the exemp function and they revamped it. Not tough just time consuming because you didn't have everyone with travel powers yet.

It really needs to happen. I'm sad that I can't take my 50's into a party to help my friends level their new toons without screwing over their XP.
