enthrop Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 So I'm coming back after a long time away from the game. I last played before they merged servers, and I had re-rolled onto a more populated server. But now, I can't decide which server to play on since they're all highly populated now. On one server I have 4 lvl 50 Republic Toons. This was my first server, so I have some small fun things like white lightsabers (and I can't remember if there was anything else limited time). But it was a low pop server with no one doing operations and such, so I just spent my whole time doing dailies. So I have no gear from operations, but lots of daily commendations (not black hole, that didn't exist yet) and ~3 mil in credits. Then on the other server, I have a lvl 50 Imperial Toon and a lvl 40 Imperial Toon. The level 50 Imperial was the result of me looking for more people to play with. I moved to find a group to do ops with and such, so I'm mostly full rakata with a few columni pieces. I focused mostly on ops, so I didn't bother much with dailies and such, except doing Black Hole everyday I could. (I quit shortly after black home came out though). I'm attached to all my toons of course. But I'm wondering if I switch back to my republic server (because 4 lvl 50s is quite a bit of a time investment), how difficult would it for me to gear up to match the Imperial toon I'm leaving behind. Any comments?
Master-Nala Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 In less than 2 weeks, gearing is going to start all over again with Makeb, so I would play whatever characters you want.
SWGEvictee Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Columi is relatively easy. Rakata next to impossible unless you have access to a regular OPs group.
Arlon_Nabarlly Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Columi is relatively easy. Rakata next to impossible unless you have access to a regular OPs group. Next to impossible is a bit of an overstatement, but it's actually harder than black hole which is a step above.
Thundergulch Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Just run groupfinder daily's and save up all your comms. When 2.0 hits they will all be condensed into Classic Comms where you can buy gear. Check out Dulfy.net for a comms list, it's a pretty informative site.
JimG Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 But I'm wondering if I switch back to my republic server (because 4 lvl 50s is quite a bit of a time investment), how difficult would it for me to gear up to match the Imperial toon I'm leaving behind. Any comments? Depends on whether you are buying the expansion. If you're buying the expansion, then the new level 55 gear will better than Columi or Rakata gear, so I wouldn't waste much time trying to get that gear range now. If you're not buying the expansion, then you can get a combination of Columi and Black Hole gear relatively easily. Just run groupfinder daily's and save up all your comms. When 2.0 hits they will all be condensed into Classic Comms where you can buy gear. Check out Dulfy.net for a comms list, it's a pretty informative site. The final details aren't set on this stuff but from the last PTS build, the daily commendations get divided by 4 in the conversion to Classic Commendations and Black Hole commendations will be a 1 to 1 ratio. So, again, if you're buying the expansion, I wouldn't waste much time on this as you can only get Campaign Gear from the Classic Commendations and that will be weaker than the new level 55 gear. Plus, your daily commendations won't have anywhere near the buying power after 2.0 hits. However, if you're not getting the expansion, then it would probably be worth it to save up for Campaign Gear.
Jilisipone Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 (edited) Saving daily/columi/tionese comms for after 2.0 is a worthy idea so that you can spend them as converted Classic Comms and buy Campaign level gear. Granted, with a 6:1 and 4:1 conversion rate....you are looking at approx 400 and 600+ comms for 1 piece of gear come 2.0. However, if you have Black Hole comms....and saving them for 2.0 to buy Campaign Gear when they turn into Classic Comms, you are wasting comms. Buy the Black Hole Shells + Campaign armorings BEFORE 2.0 with any BH comms you have. As of that last details from PTS.....the cost of the Campaign shells in 2.0 will be greater than the cost of the Black Hole shells + Campaign armorings now. IE. Currently Black Hole Legs + Campain Leg Armoring = 104 BH Comms. In 2.0 Campain Legs = 120 Classic Comms, which = 120 BH Comms if the 1:1 ratio holds true. It's even bigger discrepency for chest pieces in which currently BH + Campaign chest = 104 BH comms and in 2.0 the Campain chest piece costs 150 Classic Comms (46 more which is a whole extra piece of BH gear at current prices ). Also, Black Hole Earpieces, Implants, Belts, and Bracers are all 1/2 the cost in BH Comms now than they will be in 2.0. Either way, you end up with 146 Rating Gear (lvl 61 mods), but spend many less comms pre 2.0 to get there. Also, you are better off spending 300 Daily comms for Dread Guard Relics now than 150 for them after 2.0 considering that Daily Comms conversion ratio is 4:1 (meaning DG relics will basically cost 600 Daily comms post 2.0). Obviously all of this only holds true if the conversion rates we currently know about end up being the actual rates come patch day. Just trying to be a good steward and help some people get more milage out of their current comms. Edited March 28, 2013 by Jilisipone
enthrop Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Wow everyone, thanks for the replies. I have already pre-ordered the digital expansion, so the comments around that is definitely helpful. From everything said, it definitely sounds like the quantity of level 50s will exceed my geared level 50 in the sense of recovering my time investment from leveling. Yet, I'm still attached to my Imperial server as well, partially cause it is a PVP server (was on PVE to begin with cause of friends). And with all the legacy XP boosts, it seems possible to "save" time from a leveling perspective. So, leaning towards original server, but still attached to newer server (I wish paid character transfers were an option!) Another quick question - as I mentioned, I have white color crystal on my Republic toon. Have they re-offered that color at this point? Via cartel packs or anything?
sumuji Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Black Hole/Campaign should get replaced rather quickly. People wearing Dread Guard will have it best with being pretty much rdy for lvl 55 stuff right out of the gate. If you got comms to blow it won't be anything lost though.
Elfa Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 People seem to be forgetting that 50 HM also drop BH pieces in 2.0, so you can pretty much be geared up to BH in a week.

My only real problem with buying anything is how quickly were going to replace pretty much everything that could be bought now within 7-10 hours of play time come the expansion. Unless I missed something or you want to just spend comms to get an main/alt a little more advantage in leveling. Maybe a slight leg-up in some slots that you don't get right away at 55.
