Bethmora
Yea anyone that played SWG when it came out and lasted to NGE knows SWG was ahead of its time, They did stuff no other MMO has yet to do. It makes you think why cant we change the look of our ship? why cant we have color pallets? chat bubbles? image design?, better space, better crafting yea we can go on but why. I play Swtor and will for a long time but would love to see some of the simple things games start with that we dont have yet.

JTL was introduced way before the game was slaughtered at the altar of this console game. I also remember the KSE grind .... and waiting and waiting to get the 5k mass tier x capacitor. Oh and real multiplayer ships ... and decoratable ships ... party at the Wekstar!!!!!!

The hate for that game was everywhere well before it shut down Point is, SWG had a ton of fluff but it made no difference, people did not care
LadyDrusilla
Kirorx has a point, and I say this as someone who loved SWG devotedly. Much of what that game had was potential, nothing else. It did some things brillianty, like player housing in the sense of decoration and customisation options. JTL was also brilliant but the ground-game was not and on my server at least JTL killed planetside play. People earned money in space and spent it on space things. It is easy to look back and think of only the good things but I still remember my master Rifleman with high end armour and top quality foods being beaten up by TKMs in average gear. I remember the broken skill lines (how many Pistoleers did you know? I played one for RP purposes and it was barely effective in combat). I remember the ghost towns, the missions objectives spawning inside buildings, the sheer tedium of the exp grind, the ubiquity of Jedi after CU etc. etc. Back to JTL it was incredible fun and I LOVED equipping my TIE pilot outift (oh but my twi'lek couldn't use the helmet) and getting into my Intercept or Defender and shooting down rebel ships. But JTL was like a completely different game with gameplay that was superior to the rest of the game. Most of my guild ended up quitting in the months after JTL because they had mastered their pilot skills and the action became boring but the planetside content was so tedious there was nothing left to do. I stuck it out to the NGE then I quit. I do miss my SoroSuub luxury yacht an awful lot, though. Edited March 10, 2013 by LadyDrusilla
Andryah
Except.... this is NOT a space MMO... it's an MMO based on Star Wars lore which is a planetary based ground game. We move from planet to planet to level and partake in content. What we have in the way of space play is just a minigame for a change of pace to those who enjoy arcade games. Oh.. and lest we forget..... this is NOT SWG. Griping about it isn't going to change it. That is all. Edited March 10, 2013 by Andryah

Monthigos
JTL was pretty awesome at first...but once you got the hang of things it was essentially flying around in circles endlessly. How about those long, boring escort mission? And god forbid you got a little lag, which basically made small hit-box fighters a pain to take down. Granted it had it's moments (soloing the Corvette was a rush), but overall the general game play wasn't really all that interesting. Don't get me wrong; I would love free roaming space exploration. I would love space PvP. I would love space co-op. But honestly I enjoy the cinematic experience of rail shooters over what 90% of what JTL had to offer. Yeah it's a simple mini-game, but sometimes simple is just more entertaining.

Kilikaa
SWG is dead because nobody played it anymore This stuff could not save that game so I would not hold my breath for stuff like this SWG died because LA did not renew the contract with SOE.Rather than have two Star Wars MMOs compete they decided to kill SWG. JTL was amazing and it is exactly what BW should have put into this game from day one. They didn't consider space important. When the beta players said they wanted space, BW too the lazy, cheap way out and added in some fake "space" combat system that is total garbage. SWTOR could have learned quite a bit from SWG. Sad that BW decided to copy warraft instead. A JTL like system here would improve things greatly. JTL was great and I miss it. I miss my X-Wing. You will be surprised how many people would come back to this game if it had a real space system like JTL. TOR space is a epic fail for BW. SOE nailed it out of the park in SWG. Philastra
Last I checked we all are playing a game under the STAR wars title, even the name points to space combat. Dont get me wrong I like SWTOR but I loved SWG. Would be great to see them do with more space. But if not ...oh well. Dont hate on x SWG players for alot of it us it was like losing that perfect girlfriend but because she moved to another country you broke up, and every once in a while you remember her. Let me see, the Star Wars IP is resplendent with epic space combat, and yet when approaching it EAware went with the rail shooter. Space is an integral part of the IP that is being kicked around like an unwanted puppy because there is a total lack of creative ability. Oh and the engine is unable to handle the needed level of players per shard needed to have true epicness.

Daveid
Bioware, pick up the slack After watching that trailer i 120% agree! Everything in the trailer was so cool and i know SWTOR has the potential of making a space expansion just like it if not one that's better. And with modern graphics it would be so awesome! Please Bioware / EA learn from this! That is really how space should be, I've been following SWTOR development since 2009 and I cringed so hard when i found out space wasn't going to be like what we see in this trailer. I will pay serious cash for a separate expansion just for space, please! Edited March 10, 2013 by Daveid
Darth_Halford
"wah wah wha, Ill defend SWTOR at any cost" Well aren't you just the perfect little hipocrite, when every sentence that comes out of you has a verb, a noun, and Star Wars Galaxies. This isn't a judgement call; these are the facts of the case. The Old Republic is a ground-oriented game. The Old Republic has a singular focus on implementing good story. The stories of The Old Republic focus around recreating much of the classic archtypes in the Star Wars Lore Star Wars as a franchise has few major events occuring in space and nothing regarding exploration. A space game like the Jump to Lightspeed is unnecessary to recreate the moments in space that are remembered from other Star Wars media. Arguable: Jump to lightspeed was its own seperate game from the main ground game in Galaxies. Implementing it in The Old Republic would be as equally divisive An open-ended space game, by itself will do little to win over refugees of Galaxies or other people who enjoy Sandbox Content unless it was a completely self-contained game (which The Old Republic was never designed to be with its focus being towards story)

Oh and the engine is unable to handle the needed level of players per shard needed to have true epicness. Space combat is not integral to the IP. It's a component for sure, but it's a minority component compared the rest of what is going on in books, movies, etc. It's special effects eye candy in the movies, with little real focus on the plot lines with the exception of the death star attack in the first movie released. I like MMO space combat too.... and when I want it, I play EVE. What I don't do is whine and cry about one MMO not having something when I can simply go play another MMO that does have it. If a single MMO does not cover the full range of your tastes and desires... then play more then one... each for it's particular features and strengths.
