Satsen
Hello! So I just started playing again and there is a new pvp gear out there called Elite War Hero! Then I heard something about you can get better stats from modding the regular War Hero... with Elite War Hero mods? Whats the point of buying Elite War Hero gear and then take the mods out? Does this give the best stats or am I just confused? Can someone please explain to me where I get the mods I want and where I should put them please Give me some examples and maybe and explanation? Why would bioware make a new pvp gear which isnt the best gear in pvp?
AngusFTW
Other then ewh hilts/barrels and relics the gains are very minimal from ewh gear you are best to get the hilts/barrels, relics and min max using the rest using wh this will give a better result then grinding a stock set of ewh. After min maxing wh you can then look to upgrade the mods, enhancements, armorings etc to ewh versions of the same. Its probably not worth doing this at this stage of the game though as the gains are very minimal and with 2.0 around the corners and it all becoming obsolete the grind isnt really worth it.. To put it into perspective i have a marauder and a sentinel. My sentinel is my main (first char ewl etc) and is full ewh min/maxed geared in the exact same way as my mara who is also min maxed but has mainly wh except 1 or 2 ewh armorings, hilts and relics. The pri weapon dmg difference between the 2 is 8.. only 8.. (think extra force dmg is around 8 also) with like 200-300 extra hp . For the amount of grinding it takes its not really worth it to go full 63 atm with 2.0 around the corner ready to make it all obsolete so not worth the grind.. Why would bioware make a new pvp gear which isnt the best gear in pvp? the stock sets, both WH and EWH, do not come with what the player base has determined the optimal stats to be. If you look at the armor and weapon items, you see that the secondary stats from the stock sets give you a mix of everything (power, surge, crit, alacrity/accuracy, etc). however, the diligence and obsessiveness of the player base has given us the understanding that stacking power in favor of crit, for example, gives better results in pvp and therefore players are looking to "min/max" their gear by maxing out the stat they want and minimizing the one they don't care for. the way they do this is by identifying the piece of stock gear that has the mod or enhancement that they want, and then obtaining multilple pieces of this item just to rip out that mod and use it to replace the stock mod on other pieces. so if my gloves have a mod that is +crit but i want a power mod instead, i see that boots have the power mod and i buy the boots just for that mod. that's the idea behind ripping mods from other gear to improve the gear you already bought. now as to the difference between WH and EWH, if you look at the stat gains going from WH to EWH, they are quite small relative to the effort required to get EWH. so a lot of players are content to min/max just using WH gear instead of using EWH gear to min/max. you should definitely look to min/max but whether you do so with WH or EWH gear is up to you you ask why BW has not given us the best stats in the stock gear? i think because they know people will min/max so they give another grind for people who care enough to go after it. either that or they just don't know what is the optimal set up

The armor rating and weapon rating is much more important then the extra 1-5 stat points from min/maxing EWH
foxmob
pretty much what this guy said, other than this, the barrels / hilts and the extra armoring give the biggest upgrades for EWH. The armor rating and weapon rating is much more important then the extra 1-5 stat points from min/maxing EWH ^ this. if you have a lot of 50s, it's easier to optimize your enhancements (they don't carry main stats), but most builds want to stack power. on the other hand, I have a watchman sent, who very much needs acc whereas the VG and Commando (healer) do not. So I can pass him the best acc enh. unfortunately, he also prefers pwer > crit. but you get the idea. I also have a pt, so I have a lot of extra armorings and mods lying around that I can pass to the other aim users. that would work better, however, if they weren't all chasing the same thing aim > pwr > surge > crit. (they all have main stat % talents - so I rely on main stat for crit)
DroidDreamer
Great advice and summary on min/max gearing in this thread. Wish I had had this explanation before I started. BUT don't forget that with 2.0 coming out soon, WH/EWH will be replaced by a new tier of gear. You might do better to save your comms for min/maxing with the new gear. The method is the same, except a lot of people think Power will be more important than other stats in 2.0 because those other stats are more heavily penalized by diminishing returns (which means the more you stack them, the less benefit you get).
