VenduKane
I am finding more difficult than ever to start a new guy without posted criticisms during a Warzone, of all places, and ANY Group missions. The reason I say this is that was once a very enjoyable moment or two has become that it should not. Way too many "professional' gamers who have nothing better to do than openly criticize others in the general chat- or indecent enough to PM you! Now I know it only takes a few to ruin it for all. Most players are congenial. But, this is a separate issue. My complaint is to why my son and his friends are dumping SWTOR. Their early-teen personalities are not suited to such feedback aforementioned when all they wanted was a place to have a good time together. I have spoken to many parents about this and the consensus is that SWTOR is not place to play and explore for their kids. My son in particular finds now MINECRAFT much more suited a place for him and his friends to play and enjoy time. They too are tired of the cyber-bullies. They are dismayed with a subject that they love to talk about. I know you will not respond to these observations SWTOR, but you should. There are too many **** you, dumb ***, stupid *******, and the list goes on. More in-game observations need to be observed. This one issue I believe will be your undoing. Sound off everyone about this issue as it has happened to you or someone you know. It will only take a few of us to make it a better place than the few who are trying to do otherwise. old_benn
I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, nothing will be done. Aside from a language filter (which already exists), BW will not provide the staff to monitor general chat across all planets/fleet. They simply won't/can't. And the people who do what you're complaining about won't stop either. The situation is what it is, and we just have to deal with it. EDIT: I have a son (10 years old) who plays a couple characters he made on my account. Knowing how groups can be, I allow him to play with the understanding that he is not allowed to do any Heroic quests or flashpoints. Solo only. The vast majority of players expect a level of competence that he just wouldn't be able to achieve. And I know what sorts of comments would be made as a result. He enjoys the game despite the restriction. Edited March 5, 2013 by old_benn
SpoeMeister
I know how you feel and I respect that you (and your son) don't want to be confronted with profanity. Here are two tips to protect you and your son: 1. There is a profanity filter that you can turn on/off ind your general preferences. Make sure to see it's turned on. I can't exactly remember where to find it though, but I guess it would be in the tab "Social". 2. If that doesn't cut it, you can change the chat settings in your window. The easiest would be to just turn off chat (it is possible), but if you need it to communicate between you, your son and his friends via chat only, there's a way to turn off the general chat from the chat feed, so only your own conversations will appear in it. You can still communicate, but are not bothered by the profanity. It's sad to hear that this has deterred you from an otherwise excellent game to play together with your friends. I hope they will reconsider and apply my tips.
NomadWanderer
I've only been playing a short while and had no problem with Heroic quests what-so-ever. I haven't yet done flashpoints so I'm not saying there is no bullying going on it's just I haven't seen anything of the kind. The only thing I've seen once is someone rage quit a group because another player kept breaking CC.
Rooff
If you dont know what you are doing then someone should help you out by saying something politley, if the incompetence does not improve then you get some more advice that is straight to the point. After that it is a vote to kick.
KBerling
The profanity is out of control and is grossly offensive. I believe the filter is under chat settings, not social, but I could be wrong. Terribad players need to be politely told what they're doing wrong. If they refuse to learn, you vote to kick or else you quit the group. Wiping is no fun and wastes time and credits. BeToo
While a bit older gamer, I also don't like the constant abusive, cursing, or "you all suck", type comments, either. I often find myself just closing the chat window and enjoying the quiet solitude it can bring. "People" can often be the best, and worst, part of the MMO experience, IMO. Gidrea
I turned off General Chat the first hour I played. The profanity filter doesn't cut it, there are too many ways around it, and those people know them all! And it's not just four-letter words, either. There are plenty of ways to be offensive without profanity. The only time I have General turned on is if I'm recruiting for my guild, and int he last several months, possibly since F2P, five minutes of watching chat makes me leave the planet without recruiting. Definitely watch your kids while they play! I had a young guild member get completely traumatized by someone he group up with for a heroic on Coruscant. Evidently the other person thought a level 13 should be perfect, and also thought calling him a "******" over and over was constructive criticism. But don't let general chat keep you from playing. Find a good guild if you want someone to play with, one that doesn't randomly ask everyone if they want to join. Put people who whisper you on Ignore.
