PvP while doing PVE?

I am levelling up some toons in the 30s and 40s, is it worth it to do pvp before 50? I'm mainly interested in pve content as I have yet to finish any of the story lines, but can you get some decent pvp gear pre-50 as a part time pvp'er? How many warzones do you typically have to win in order to earn enough commendations for some pre-50 pvp gear?

 

I ask because I'd like to dip my feet in the pvp pond a bit, but I was curious if doing so would allow me to actually get some decent gear, or is gearing up with pvp gear pre 50 a full time commitment that would cause you to out level your story line?

If you have any interest in pvp, do yourself and your future teammates a favor and figure out the maps and different strategies for pvp BEFORE you hit level 50. Will save so much frustration. Plus you can collect commendations to buy a piece of gear or 2 once you hit 50.

 

And there really is no "pre-50" pvp gear... it is simply gear.

You can get gear sets at 20 and 40, main armor peices and a ear peice / implant Is the jist of it I believe.

 

I personally enjoyed 10-49 pvp, gear doesn't really matter much, just go out and have a good time.

 

Exp gain is decent, at level 35 I was getting around 10-15k a match, not the fastest, but it is good imo.

 

It should take 3-5 games to get a peice of sub 49 gear, the level 40 main armor peices are around 500 ea, not sure about the 20 set but im sure its close to the 40 set.

I would say at very least; to PvP enough to keep your valor up with level so at 40, you can spill over comms when you are capped into ranked comms. You want to hit 50 with at least youyr regular comms maxed

 

Outside of that, you will level faster PvEing than PvPing outside of completing your daily. You can decide how much you want to do based on that and the above recommendation of knowing your *** from a hole in the ground come 50.

Ok, another noob PVP question, what is valor, what do you use it for? I thought Commendations were the reward for PVP, but clearly Valor is another type of reward. How does it differ from Commendations, what can you get with it and do you have to do something different to get it than from how you get commendations?

hit "C" while in game and your character sheet will come up. Its gained by PvPing in warzones, and you will see how much of it you are rewarded at the end of each match on the scoreboard but you can only go as high as your character level until 50, then it goes above your level. Really; it doesn't do much for you outside of titles, and you cannot buy ranked comms until you are valor rank 40.

you don't need to win really, just earn a couple of medals (8-10 is better lol) and i think that the pvp vendor/armor gear costs from 300 to 900wz commendations..so from 5 to 10 matches. in my experience i bought stuff only for the small amount of expertise it has and anyway at those levels you change gear so quickly that you should do it just to avoid loosing commendations. i'd suggest you also to reach valor 40 before 50 and to fill your commendations Edited March 4, 2013 by JouerTue

- Valor used to be used as a gear requirement. Now it really only serves to be a cut off point for purchasing ranked comms.

 

- At Valor lvl 40, which ideally you should hit at the same time you hit level 40, you can start trading WZ comms for ranked WZ comms.

 

- Ranked WZ comms are used to purchase Elite War Hero Gear. you will also need the corresponding piece of War Hero gear to trade in.

 

- If you are at lvl 40 or above and your valor is really low, like below 30, don't even worry about ranked comms for now unless you plan on only PvPing which doesn't sound like it's your case. Concentrate on maxing out your regular comms.

 

- Whenever you max your comms buy a bunch of WZ med pacs and adrenals. How many you buy really depends on how fast you think you can max them out again before 50.

 

- You definitely want to hit 50 with maxed comms. You should buy the WH main hand and whatever other expensive piece you can afford like the chest, head or off hand.

 

- Get the free Recruit gear.

 

- And use it.
