nocte_aeterna Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 So, I recently returned to TOR after deciding to take a break back in August, and made a shift from playing my old main (a tank) to my Operative. I used to run in heal spec, but converted to DPS because one was needed one for the raid group I'm in. Long story short, I've never had a DPS main for raiding before, so gearing one out has been a learning experience. Unfortunately, DPS Operatives are in short supply in my guild (read: I'm the only one), and while we have a couple Lethality Snipers, I feel like enough differences exist between the two IA types that I need some advice from other backstabbers. My main question is this: Where about should I have my crit chance? To elaborate, I've listened to some discussion among Lethality Snipers who like to keep their crit chance at or just below 40%, in order to proc the energy return from the Lethal Purpose trait more often. Is this something I should be aiming for, or does the general standard of 35% crit chance (buffed) apply for me? I've had very few problems maintaining energy so far (and my cooldowns have always been up when I get into a hole) while still maintaining steady DPS, so I'm curious if the high resource consumption is a Sniper-centric problem. Here are my stats as of this post - omnibuffed, with a Rakata Skill Stim: Cunning*: 2178.5 Bonus Damage: 1039.3 Accuracy: 109.57% Critical Chance: 34.99% Critical Multiplier: 75.63% *I have a feeling my Cunning is a bit low, and the reason for this is that the other DPSers in my raid group (Marauders) told me to use Power augments...so that's what I have on a majority of my gear. I am now aware that most other classes favor main stat and will be changing over soon. I guess the last thing to mention is I'm mostly in 61 modded gear with 63 barrels. I have 2 Rakata-level enhancements left to replace, and I'm debating on whether to go with Crit/Accuracy or stay with Power/Accuracy. Thoughts? Thanks for reading and for any advice! I appreciate it.
tacito Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Crit is mostly about energy regen. I felt like lethality became a LOT more fluent once I approached 35% crit, so I guess if you're comfortable with your energy regen now, that's the right amount of crit. As for the enhancements, I'd say go with power. You are right when you say that your augments should be cunning ones, so replacing those will set you back on the DR curve for power gains, which means the power on the enhancements will probably be worth quite a bit more than the few points of crit you could get.
