darthnish
Hey guys i posted this in the pvp section, didnt really get any replies, i figured id give general discussion a shot and see what everyone thinks. What up ladies and gamers, I had this idea last night playing SC2, i realized they way sc2 balanced its games was based around average player APM(apm= actions per minute) and some other restraints that wouldn't apply to MMOs cause its a RTS thing . But expanding on that idea of using APM, I would note that casuals would have a lower APM than a hardcore player. For example , a hardcore or good player would use LoS/Movement and buffs much faster than a casual and have much better reaction speed, which would show up as more actions done in a set time frame, so if a system to track such a stat was added and averaged over 10~20 games, it could be used to form some sort of ranking system. It would also be a good thing to assign players ranks as well, so it would make the hardcore players want to get the highest ranking possible so people would not deliberately abuse the system to remain low ranked. It would still happen but they would have no bragging rights for being good in a lowbie ranked bracket. How to implement: Use ranking system to even out PuG matches, as in if opposing team has premade of 4 players with similar rankings, find the same balance from the rest of the player pool. For servers where one faction is clearly dominating, make use ranking system to que the high rankers against each other and save the lower ones for the opposing faction. At the end of a game on the scoreboard, display all players and their ranks, so the hardcore gamers will know that they only won the game because the opposing team wasn't as good. And vice versa. Drawbacks 1)Node defenders would obviously have a much lower APM due to lack of action possible solution: Add objective points as a variable in ranking. 2) Will Increase que times Possible soltution: add a time out on the matchmaking algorithm , i.e. after a set amount of time start WZ with w/e players are available. Conclusion: This would go a along way in helping with the gear/skill disparity faced a lot in the current pvp system but at the same time might increase que times but overall i feel that its pros , far outweigh the cons, of everyone wanting a good fair system. Please post any additions or ideas to measure a players skill , and ill add it on and give credit. Cheers for reading guys.
